Welcome!

Hello, K.S.Hardy, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 22:49, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Your submissions

There are too many problems with your submissions that it's taking quite a bit of time to fix them. So in the meantime, please stop making submissions until you've read this message and follow the instructions. These entry standards are clearly explained in the instructions which are on this page.

The biggest problem is that you're entering magazine issues without disambiguating them. You have to give the issue's date in the title field, such as Beyond Centauri, January 2012. If you don't do this it makes it very difficult to find the issues, and even harder for the person who is trying to get them into the database. Also enter the date of the issue in the date field as 2012-01-00, for example. Leave the dates of the content records blank and the system will automatically date them the same as the issue.

Also, you have to space between your initials. I can only assume that the work is credited to "K. S. Hardy" and not "K.S.Hardy", so I'm having to fix every one of the stories and poems in order for them to appear on your author's summary page.

Another thing: don't enter the ISSN in the ISBN field. They're not the same thing. If there is no ISBN stated in the magazine, please leave the field blank.

It would also be nice if you could enter all of the contents of the magazine into the database, not just your own credits, which might appear to be self-serving. This is not a requirement, just a courtesy.

So please read the entry instructions that I've linked to above before you continue adding records. This is a very important page, and you'd be helping both of us by taking the time to read them. Thanks. Mhhutchins 21:42, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Trail of Indiscretion

What is the issue number, or date of publication of the issue in which "My Memories of Gravity" was published? As I've pointed out above, you must disambiguate the title of the issue so that it is not confused with other issues of the same periodical, such as "Trail of Indiscretion, Issue 5", or "Trail of Indiscretion #5", or "Trail of Indiscretion, May 2008" or "Trail of Indiscretion, Spring 2008". I'll hold the submission and wait for your response here. Click on the [edit] link to the right of this message. Enter you response in the dialog box that opens, and end the message with four tildes (~~~~) which signs and dates it. Thanks. Mhhutchins 20:25, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Also, as the instructions given on this help page state: Titles should have case regularized unless there is some specific evidence that the author intended certain letters to be in a specific case. ... [This] means that the first word is capitalized, and all later words are also capitalized except for "and", "the", "a", "an", "for", "of", "in", "on", "by", "at", "from", "with", and "to". So the title of the magazine is Trail of Indiscretion, not Trail Of Indiscretion, and the title of the story is "My Memories of Gravity", not "My Memories Of Gravity." I made these corrections in your earlier submissions, hoping that you will have seen the change and regularized the case of titles in latter submissions. Mhhutchins 22:42, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

It is very important that you read the instructions on this page before making future submissions. Thank you. Mhhutchins 22:43, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

The Twiig Man

Should this have only one "i" in it? BLongley 12:39, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

According to Locus1, it should be "The Twig Man". You're not going to get a response from this editor. I'm not sure if he's ever found the wiki. I've emailed him, but still get no response. My main problem with this editor is his creating publication records with only his work in the contents. In many cases, I don't know if the publication (usually a small press magazine) is a nongenre publication which publishes his spec-fic poems, or if he doesn't want to go to the effort of including other spec-fic work which may be in the publication. So I've starting adding content records without accepting the publication record. This creates title records (like this one) without a pub record, in which I've been adding publication data in the title records' note fields. This prevents adding publication records to the database for nongenre small press magazines. If anyone else comes along and adds a record for the publication and its complete contents, it will be easy to merge the title records. Mhhutchins 17:50, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Michael. I know I missed a fair number of new editors while I was hospitalised (and will probably miss a few more when I go back in), so I wasn't aware of this editor's habits. BLongley 19:01, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
