Welcome!

Hello, Jfolsom, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --MartyD 22:21, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

The Lost Symbol

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. The publication you want to enter seems to be the same as this already existing one. What were trying to achieve? Hauck 06:13, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Hauck, The copy i have has 509 pages instead, Maybe it's a US priced version of This one. I didn't see any matching listing.Jfolsom 16:33, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
OK, thanks, the simplest way to proceed is for your to star from a quasi-"blank" state. Go there and use the "Add Publication to This Title" link on the left. It will allow you to enter data in nearly all the fields as you want (and as is on your copy) without leftovers. Hauck 16:52, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi Hauck, Thanks for the help on all of these.... I entered this book as you indicated, I left notes for the moderator. I screwed up Doubleday, sorry about that. I assume it can be corrected. Jfolsom 17:47, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
In fact, I'm quite sure that your book and 296036 are the same. 296036 data seems to come directly from an old version of amazon, including the number of pages (which is typically a multiple of 4 and is usually wrong). The printing line (printers key) clearly indicates a first printing. As SpanishMill is no more active (and was seemingly prone to errors). I propose this to you: I'll reject your submission and you'll take the PV2 spot of 296036 where I've transferred the new data that you provided. Hauck 18:07, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
I'll ask some people on amazon who have 1st/1st posted books, and see how many pages they have. There is a variant where the the "rrd" is "bvg" though, and I don't know what that means. Jfolsom 21:37, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
3 of 3 people on ebay selling the first edition said there's had 509 pages...
This means that you were right and the initial PVs wrong. Hauck 07:22, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Interview with the Vampire

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. I want to verify a few points:

  • is the ISBN 0394498216 actually on your copy?
  • Does your copy looks like this?

Thanks. Hauck 06:46, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Hauck, Yes that ISBN and that cover. The external binding is all black with with Gold lettering title on the spine and has Alfred A Knopf on the spine. It doesn't exactly match any of the other titles and looks new. It also has no price and no UPC code. So it's a Book club but I was unable to locate any gutter codes. It has a picture of Anne Rice on the back. Jfolsom 16:33, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for having a look. I've approved the submission but deleted the cover credit (we do not credit cover designers, only cover artist). The result is hereHauck 16:47, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Bad Moon Rising

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make a few changes:

  • Deleted the "Pre-release data generated by Dissembler from Amazon.com website on 2009-3-21" as you state to own the publication, which means that (most of) the data come fro you.
  • To take into account the problem with the pub date, I've inserted a quite standard line "Precise publication date from amazon".
  • I've modified the cover credits as per this pub where you can see that Jerry Todd is the designer (so is not listed) and Sheri Reno / Nashville (more likely Sheri Reno) is the author of the photgraph on bc (and also not credited), this left only Von Glitschka as artist (you'll note that I've merged the record for the cover with the existing one. Thanks for contributing. Hauck 17:02, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

2061: Odyssey Three

Hello, I've rejected your submission on two grounds:

  • We do not list such appendixes as Acknowledgements and other material at the end of books except if they're significant (i.e. more thtn a list of thanks or material). Note that, in any, case, these new items should be disambiguated.
  • As this publication has been "multi-verified", please clear the matter with the other PVs.

Thanks. On a more general note, publications with numerous PVs are generally to be left "as-they-are" because it means that some thought has already been vested on it (this doesn't mean that they are completely error-free as sometimes mistakes are only spotted after the fith or nth pair of eyes had a look). Hauck 06:44, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

No worries, just wasn't sure.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Hi, I approved your update to 2001: A Space Odyssey by mistake (instead of holding it and asking you a question) and restored it back. Your proposed change was to change the sentence from "Ebayer reports 27K, when questioned about a listing." to "Ebayer reports 8k,27K, when questioned about a listing." which does not follow the pattern of that whole paragraph. Can you clarify that change - was the report for a "8k,27K" or is this another gutter code? I will redo it if needed but I am not sure what you mean to add in that note. Thanks!

Also - when updating a publications that have primary verifiers, please make sure you notify them about the change - the etiquette around here is to work together - so keep everyone in the loop when changes happen. Thanks! Annie 01:23, 3 July 2017 (EDT)

So I've been looking to buy an early gutter code copy of that book. That means having to ask people with auction listings, what the gutter code is. I've been trying to report back the various codes I find. So far ebayers have reported the codes 8k and 27k. That is all that I was trying to convey. I will stop now because this has become more hassle than it's worth.
That makes sense - the way the original . I refactored the note to make it more clear. Thanks for the update both here and for the gutter codes. And good luck finding your early gutter copy of the book! Annie 14:29, 5 July 2017 (EDT)
