Bacigalupi's Ship Breaker

Thank you for contributing! I approved of your two submissions but decided to drop the publication series 'Ship Breaker' afterwards. I assumed you wanted to add the book to the title series of that name, but if you look at the title level, you'll see that it is already part of it. Please note that we make use of two different types of titles: 1) title series (for novels this usually means they are linked by a common character, an ongoing storyline or a universe), and 2) publication series, which actually is to be entered on the level of a certain publication - The DAW Collectors being a typical example. I've removed the link to the cover image that was added to this record. We must have explicit permission from the hosting website in order to link to their image files. Lithuanian edition of Metro 2033

This Lithuanian translation was mistakenly entered under the title record for the Russian edition. I will remove it from that title and create a new one. If a work's language differs from the language of the title record already in the database, even if the title is exactly the same, please use the links under the "Add New Data:" menu on the front page. The same error was made with the Lithuanian translation of The Fellowship of the Ring. I will remove the publication from that title record, and make the new Lithuanian title into a variant of the English title. Mhhutchins 17:59, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Sourcing data

When you're adding a new publication or updating one that's already in the database, it is important that you give the source for your data in the record's "Note" field. Unless you have the publication in hand. In that case leave a note in the "Note to Moderator" field telling us that you're working from the primary source and then after the submission has been accepted, go to the record and do a Primary Verification of it. Lithuanian prices

Hi. I accepted your submissions, as they all had information in addition to the prices. Our standard for prices is to put the currency symbol or abbreviation first, then the price (separated by a space if an abbreviation, without a space if a symbol). I believe the Lithuanian prices should be entered as "Lt nn,nn" or "Lt nn.nn" instead of as "nn,nn litas". I do not remember if we decided to standardize on a period as the decimal place indicator or if we are going with the native representation -- I am asking and will post the answer here. You do not need to go change the prices you already entered; I will fix them once I get the period-vs-comma answer. Thanks. --MartyD 12:01, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for this explanation. I will keep this in mind. On the topic of prices, I have one question. It seems that system automatically edits any "L"s in the price field into pound symbol (£). How do I avoid this? Ilneval 12:10, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

The answer is we agreed to use period (".") for the decimal separator and comma (",") for the thousands separator in all prices. I will be updating the help to reflect that and will fix the prices on those submissions that I approved. I see what you mean about the "L". That is a bug. It is just a display error, the "L" is captured properly in the database, but the display is allowing for "L" to be used instead of "£" for people entering British book prices and not knowing how to make a pound sign. I will log it and fix it. Anything you enter as "Lt nn.nn" will be displayed correctly once that is fixed. --MartyD 16:46, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

No stated price

When a price isn't stated, leave the Price Field blank, and state that fact in the Note Field. Entering "-" into the Price Field generates a false entry. Thanks. Mhhutchins 20:50, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Non-numerical character in an ISBN

ISBN-13

You've given this 1999 publication an ISBN-13. It wasn't until 2005 until the ISBN-13 came into widespread use, and it wasn't mandatory until 2007. Are you certain your copy has the ISBN-13, and if it does, is it possibly a later printing? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins 11:15, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

I've done some investigating and it is a curious case. The book itself has two codes printed on it. The ISBN-13 and a 14 digit code. However, Lithuanian national library states that the printed ISBN is incorrect. Should I correct the ISBN and leave a note about the one printed? Ilneval 11:24, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Are you certain it's an ISBN-13? It could be an EAN, a 13-digit number which morphed into the ISBN-13. The number "9-789986950141" is most likely not an ISBN-13. If this is a 1999 publication, it is very likely the EAN (usually printed under the barcode.) Is there an actual ISBN stated on the copyright page? That is the number you should give in the record. If the number isn't a valid ISBN, you can provide that information in the Note field. Mhhutchins 04:50, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

According to some sources the ISBN should be 9986950147. Is this number in the book itself? Mhhutchins

The book has no copyright page (a usual problem for Eridanas published books pre-2003). I corrected the publishing's page with ISBN-10 provided by Lithuanian national library and the note about the printed one. Ilneval 07:38, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

It's an invalid ISBN (the numbers don't add up correctly), so the only way to remove the error message is to change it into a catalog number by entering a number sign (#) before it. Please go ahead and do that, making sure the dashes are entered as they appear in the publication: e.g. #998-648618-7 (if that's the way they are in the book.) Also, add a note to the Note field that the stated ISBN is an invalid number. Thanks. Mhhutchins 21:56, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Skaitmeninis Jezus

Hello, Ilneval! I have added this publication. I do have a question, though: The entry at 'Deutsche Nationalbibliothek' (german national library) has the statement Iš vokieciu? kalbos verte Nomeda Berkuviene. I suppose that this is a credit for the translator Nomeda Berkuviene, but in this I may be mistaken, since I am a bit better in German and English than in Lithuanian. Hello, Stonecreek! Yes, you are right, this is a credit for the translator. It means "From German Language translated by Nomeda Berkuvienė". However, it seems that WorldCat has multiple errors in their entry. The Lithuanian edition has been released as two seperate books. 'Skaitmeninis Jėzus. Pirma knyga' (ISBN 9986-97-129-2; Pasaulinės Fantastikos Aukso Fondas #363) and 'Skaitmeninis Jėzus. Antra knyga' (ISBN 9986971314; Pasaulinės Fantastikos Aukso Fondas #364). I am not entirely familiar with the ISFDb's system yet. So any help with adding updating these publications would be appreciated. Thanks Ilneval 20:28, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
