Martian Time-Slip - PKD

Hi, you are pV here. My 2nd printing of this has "designed by sue michniewicz" curved underneath the pink circle between the price and barcode circles. Perhaps yours has too?

Also, on my 2nd print title page appears "SF MASTERWORKS" underlined and a blank circle. What do you make of that, if yours is the same?

Also, on my copyright page is "This edition reprinted by Gollancz" but with no date (your 3rd seems the same). Cheers. BanjoKev 18:44, 6 May 2019 (EDT)

• "This edition reprinted by Gollancz": not in my edition, but "This edition published in 2007 in Great Britain by Gollancz" instead.

Hi Kev, looks good. However, there's a question regarding your PV'd record: the page number there is "[6]+226" instead of just "226". We use the square bracket page numbers only if there is additional, unnumbered content before page 1 (or after the last numbered pages in certain cases) which needs a separate content record. What do the [6] pages contain? If it's interior art for example, you should add content records for it. Otherwise the "[6]" should be removed. See the bullet point starting with "Sometimes a publication will have unnumbered" in the rules for "Pages" field, and for a more detailed explanation see Help:How_to_determine_the_value_for_the_"Pages"_field_in_a_book. Free moments for the ISFDB are rare at the moment (as you may have noticed from the amount of my recent activity here). I hadn't heard about the "gdown" tool mentioned in the SR before, but at first glance it looks easy to include it into the download script. I'll give it a shot over the forthcoming weekend. Jules Verne Translations

I have been documenting the various translations of Jules Verne's works and trying to identify a piece of text from each translation so editors can position their publications under the correct title record. You are on record as a primary verifier for one or more publications for which I am looking for text or which are placed under a generic translation title. Hello Jens, I am totally confused. I have a text from a scan and the source is given as aus: "Die besten klassischen Science Fiction Geschichten", Diogenes 1979 / Ex Libris 1983 S.261-273; "The new accelerator", 1901; aus dem Englischen von Werner Kortwich (Die besten klassischen Science-Fiction-Geschichten). The title is different: 'Der neue Beschleuniger' vs. 'Der neue Akzelerator'. The translator is different: Werner Kortwich vs. Lena Neumann

• Kortwich: Falls es einen Menschen gibt, der ein Goldstück findet, wenn er nach einer Stecknadel sucht, ist es bestimmt mein guter Freund Professor Gibberne. Ich habe schon früher von Forschern gehört, die über ihr Ziel hinausschossen, von keinem aber, dem es so weit gelungen wäre wie ihm. Und diesmal hat er ohne Übertreibung etwas entdeckt, was das ganze menschliche Leben revolutionieren kann.

Hi, Henna. I checked my copy, and the data for Der neue Akzelerator in my copy of Die besten klassischen Science-Fiction-Geschichten are correct. It contains the Neumann translation, and the text starts exactly like you posted above. The bibliography in the book states that the Neumann translation was first published in Das Kristall-Ei in 1979. Since your scan of Die besten klassischen Science Fiction Geschichten is for a 1979 edition, the Neumann translation maybe didn't exist at this time yet, so they used the one from Kortwich and replaced it in later editions with the one from Neumann? China Miéville - Perdido Street Station - re: New Crobuzon (map)

Hi, I'm sorting out all the references to the map. You are the only one who's entered the title correctly :) Have a look at the conversation here at 7 January 2023.

The upshot is, I'll be changing the map titles here, and here, changing the dates to the original Macmillan pub date 2000-03-00 and all by uncredited. Hi Kev. I don't think its contained in the German edition. There's a 2-page "prologue", but according to the table of contents it's part of the novel.
