A bit of housekeeping :) When you use <nowiki>{{T|ID|Title}}</nowiki> in the title of a message, you make the positional addressing impossible - as the text that is shown in the browser is different from what is in the entry so the positional cannot work. See [http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php?title=User_talk:Stonecreek&action=history This History page] for example: Click on the -> before your last edit and see how it sends you at the top of the page. Now click on the -> in front of one of the ones that do NOT have the template. See how it goes to the entry that was edited instead thus not requiring the editor to search for the edit? The same happens if one tries to click on a link in their Watchlist or anywhere else where the message is linked. It is better to use naked titles in the titles, then use the templated value inside of the text only - that makes it easier for everyone to find the message without the need to search for it on the whole page. :) Thanks in advance! Welcome!

Hello, Henna, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 14:24, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Die Sterntagebücher des Weltraumfahrers Ijon Tichy

Thank you very much for adding the contents! As this seems to be the first german publication of the respective shortfictions I have changed the dates for them to 1961 (we record the dates of first publications for a given translation and then variant it to the original titles, so that the dates for both differ in almost all cases). I also merged them with the existing titles for these translations by Caesar Rymarowicz. Thanks again! Stonecreek 15:59, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Sterntagebücher

I created a variant "sechsundzwanzigste und letzte Reise" from the polish original, then merge with new entry in the collection. Is this the correct procedure?

I uploaded the cover, you can see it? I got an error message.

Thank you for your help and patience. Henna 17:28, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your addition. Some other moderator seems to have taken care of this problem. All seems to be okay now. Stonecreek 11:23, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi, and thanks again for the tip to the gallery. You may want to import Lem's drawings (for example from this) to your verified 1973 edition (I'd do it, but the page numbers will be different, so I could only guess). Regards, Christian Stonecreek 13:02, 31 January 2021 (EST)
Hello Christian, I have added the interior art as German translation. Can you help me to variant the titles? Thanks Henna 13:54, 2 February 2021 (EST)

Pożytek ze smoka

I have put your submission for changing the year of this title on hold. Please let me know if there was a Polish publication as early as 1983. If not, the year of the title should not be changed. This may seem to be a bit unusual, but it's the way we handle translations (and originals). See for example this shortstory or (even more embarassing) this one. Stonecreek 11:33, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

I think there is a typing error, the right year is 1983 not 1993. [[1]] Henna 12:10, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Only, if there's a Polish publication. To be published in any language, a story needs to have assigned a copyright, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is published in the 'home' language of an author, see this example. Do you have concrete evidence that Lem's item was published 1983 in Polish? Stonecreek 14:47, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
yes, Yes, YES, you're right. I take a look in the polish Wikipedia, the first publication from 1983 is in German. Thanks for the examples, a little bit spooky :). The date of creation is important for me, can i add this in the notes? Thank you for your help and patience. Henna 20:29, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Cover image upload procedure

Please use the link titled "Upload cover scan" when uploading a cover image file to the ISFDB server. Do not use the link "Upload file" in the wiki section of the database. I have deleted the improperly uploaded file for Lem's Sterntagebücher because it was missing the required license and other data that is created automatically when you use the proper procedure.

Go to the publication record here and click on the link "Upload cover scan" and follow the directions. Once the file has been uploaded, copy its URL. Then go back and update the publication record by linking the cover image file to the publication record. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 20:25, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

What file size is allowed? I got an error too large file size, shrink the Picture and upload again, now the form is empty, next error. Henna 20:53, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
No more than 600 dpi per side, please. Likely you only have to ignore the error message or to renew. (As I saw your question only by chance: it's better to post questions like this at the help desk. Stonecreek 21:40, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Verificated publications

As you verified a publication of Lem's Sterntagebücher it is recommended that you modify the notes. For example 'Data from Deutsche Nationalbibliothek' is no longer needed as you (or rather your copy of the book) have become the source for the data. Also, you may add some more notes (as to your liking). Stonecreek 14:36, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

I don't want verify my own entries, but I haven't understand how to copy or create a entry without verification. In the moment I look around and will verify later. promised Henna 21:09, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
If you'd like to copy a distinct publication, for example a certain COLLECTION with the same contents, use the Clone This Pub function on the left toolbar (but you have to be on the level of the publication you want to clone to do that, not on the level of title - the title lists all publications of the title we have: this novel has two publications we know of).
To enter a new item you have to use the buttons filed under the Add New Data heading on the left tool bar. If you don't do a verification, you do have to state the source for the data in the notes. I hope that helps. Stonecreek 21:20, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Image upload

What was the purpose of uploading this image file? Mhhutchins|talk 01:37, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

I see now it was used in this discussion. Once that issue has been resolved, I will delete the image. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 01:43, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

The issue is done. The picture can be deleted. Thanks Henna 21:44, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Die Zeitbraut

Hello, thanks for adding this book and I'll approve your submission. But first I want to point out some issues. The field series doesn't refer to a publication series but on a book series. The name of this anthology series is Internationale Science Fiction Stories. We have a ISFDB rule[2], if the last page of the content is unnumbered. You have to count the last unnumbered page. In this case the book has 494 pages and you have to add an explanatory note about the unnumbered last page.

Finally an additional note: There are two typos within the author names (Gardner Dozois and Daniele Vecchi)). Rudolf Rudam 13:04, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Fill the field series was a mistake, later I fill the pup series field and forgot to delete other field.
This happened to me too.
I take this puplication[[3]] as template. I will correct the page numbers to 494.
This is a newer ISFDB policy. In previous years the last unnumbered page was added with brackets. There are still a lot of older versions (especially german publications) that need to be changed.
Thank you for the typo advice. Henna 19:39, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
You're welcome! I also own the book. Rudam 09:32, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Merging or Not Merging

Hello Henna, it's a possible but unusual way to communicate with the moderators. If you have once again any submission questions, it is better to ask the moderators in the future here: Moderator noticeboard. You can also use the other noticeboards, if you have specific other questions or problems.

I have also all three books and it seems that all three stories of Die Liebenden von Manhattan are identical. The decisive factor is that the words of the text are the same, the structure like chapter numbers can be variable. I'll merge them.
I own AC 13 and the story Herz des Sonnenaufganges is identical with the story in the anthology Auf der Straße nach Oodnadatta. I'll merge them too.

Thanks for your request. Rudolf Rudam 09:24, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

OK I will use the Moderator noticeboard from now on. Thank you for compare and merge the stories. Henna 14:03, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Das Treffen der Tyrannen bei Rowno

Hello, I've put your submission on hold as perhaps your target text may already be present in this page. Can you have a look? Note also the 'correct' canonical form of the author's name to which you should variant to. Hauck 18:25, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

I had a look of this page, I found no variant story (тиранов/tyranow). The author's name is a new Pseudonym, add this first? Henna 18:37, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Not necessary (the pseudonomystic link can be added later) but the varianting should be done to the canonical. I've done both things for you. Hauck 18:43, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the support. Henna 12:34, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Experiment

Hello, the story Experiment was first published in the anthology Neviditelní zloději by Irena Zítková in the year 1980. I've forgottten to add the note and I 've added it now. Look here [4]21:10, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, now I understand how to add new parent story. I was not sure due this [[5]] issue. Henna 12:43, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

"Der Kerzenmacher" by Angela Steinmüller

I rejected your submission to "unmerge" this title from one of its publications. It was better to remove it from the publication and then create a new title record. Are these not the same story? If not, you should add a note of explanation to at least one of the records so that they don't get merged again. Mhhutchins|talk 21:27, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

"Sechsundzwanzigste und letzte Reise" by Lem

What is the source of the data which prompted the submission to change the title of this story? I couldn't find the contents listed on the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek website (which is supposed to be the source of the data according to the Note field.) Is this not the "twenty-sixth and final voyage"? Mhhutchins|talk 21:36, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

I have accepted the submission because I see that since I posted this message you have done a primary verification of the publication record. In the future, please respond to messages left on your user talk page to avoid such delays in the handling of submissions. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 04:42, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm totally confused. Now the submission wants to change the title field of this record from Die Sterntagebücher des Weltraumfahrers Ijon Tichy to Sterntagebücher, even though the publication has the longer title. These titles should match. So tell me which one is correct. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 04:49, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
I want change the Title of the Collection to "Sterntagebücher". I don't want to change a Title of any Story. In the dnb.de the artwork is in the title included: Herausgegeben von Astral Sternu Tarantoga, Professor der Astralzoologie a.d. Universität Fomalhaut. Stanislaw Lem: Die Sterntagebücher des Weltraumfahrers Ijon Tichy. This is fiction. I'm very slow, I try to be correct and understand you're rule. Henna 23:31, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
If you change the title field of the title record then you must also change the title field of the publication record. This title should be based on what appears on the book's title page, regardless of how it is listed in the dnb.de. If you can confirm that the title on the book's title page is just "Sterntagebücher", then I will accept the submission to change the title field of the title record, but I will also have to change the title field of the publication record. Mhhutchins|talk 23:52, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm still holding your submission waiting for a response to this question. According to this OCLC record, this edition gives the full title, not the shortened one. Can you please confirm that the title page of your copy only gives the title as "Sterntagebücher"? Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 06:34, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
As you've been unable to respond to my inquiry, I've removed my hold on the submission to allow another moderator to handle it. Mhhutchins|talk 21:59, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
I've rejected the submission. Please indicate what is exactly the title on the cover of the book. Thanks. Hauck 05:52, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply, I was very busy in the last time.
The problem with this title is there is no titlepage, only an artwork. In my oppinion the right title is only „Sterntagebücher“ like in the second and third edition.--Henna 10:53, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
I do concede that it's a bit unusual, but it really seems that this also serves as title page for the shortfiction, especially when there's no other title reported in the publication. It's quite usual that the same translation (or original, for that matter) gets published under different titles (see Lem's Prince Ferrix). Also, different translations get published under the same title (see here for the example of Unternehmen Schwerkraft). We really go for titles exactly as stated in a given publication. Stonecreek 11:58, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
I have found the official titel of this book here. Everything is correct, but the entry in the worldcat is wrong. Thank you for your patience and support. Henna 19:08, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

ISBNs with "X"

When entering an ISBN, please use a capital X. Otherwise, the system thinks it's a catalog number and not an ISBN. Please correct this one when you get time. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 23:40, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Done. Hauck 13:52, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you

Der Kerzenmacher

I rejected your variant of "Der Kerzenmacher" to "Der Kerzenmacher". Normally, we merge exact duplicates. However, the later record says it's revised. When we have revised works, we leave them separate. Varaianting is only for variant titles; not for variant works. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have question. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:40, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Can I make a link in the notes to the original story? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Henna (talkcontribs) .
I have merged the two titles into one title, because they are said to be only "slightly revised". We don't create separate title records and variant them if they are just slightly revised. We note any revisions in the title record's note field, as I have done in this case. We only variant if the title has changed, or if the author credit has changed. If the text is has been substantially revised, or substantially expanded, abridged or excerpted, we leave the titles separate, and add a link to the other record in each of their Note fields, if necessary. (Don't forget to sign any posts made to the wiki pages.) Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 00:00, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Вечный полдень (В раю мы жили на суше)

Hello Henna. I have approved your submission, but changed the language from German to Russian (you had forgotten to change the language setting). Thanks, Linguist 10:41, 29 September 2016 (UTC).

Thanks for the support. Henna 13:34, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Johann Sebastian Bach Memorial Barbecue

I have added the cover artist and some contents & notes to this anthology (and like to do it for some others verified by you). I also have a cover scan at hand, which I could add. Stonecreek 16:00, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the support. I have two problems with this publication:
1. create a new translation of Moonless Night by Michael K. Iwoleit 1990
2. to clear the translators name Karl von Wetzky, which is the real name and which is a pseudonym
  • Karl Wrchowetzky
  • Karel Vrchovecký
  • Karl von Wetzky
  • Karl v. Wetzky
In the notes are very different informations, I don't now what is important. Feel free add missing content and also the cover scan, you now there is a memory gap. Thanks again Henna 16:43, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
I have unmerged Moonless Night and varianted it anew to the original title. I have unified the two entries for Wrchowetzky / von Wetzky, setting the latter as the canonical name, since it seems that he finally decided to be this the version under which he wished to publish. I hope that helped. Stonecreek 10:13, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Henna 15:43, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Richard Stone's Wassermans Roboter

I have reversed your edit for this author and his short story. Just curious why you submitted it with the update for the anthology? (After all, it belongs to this Richard Stone and it is a short story, per a cautionary word count estimate). Stonecreek 10:51, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

I add interior artwork (edit pup) and translators (edit title data) at the same time. Sorry for revise your changes. Henna 11:56, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
No problem at all! Stonecreek 17:29, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Venice 2

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. Can you confirm that the texts Zum Fliegen geschaffen and Der grüne Zug and Die grüne Brille are by authors whose names are not spelled in latin characters? I'm also surprised by the capitalization of the poems. Hauck 20:29, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

I add the canonical author names, later I want link the title to an pseudonym. The capitalization of the three poems are correct. Henna 13:37, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
No, you must enter the authors as they are in the publication. You'll variant the titles that you'll obtain later to the canonical name. Hauck 14:06, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
How can I correct the author names? Henna 14:24, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
You'll have to resubmit (it wasn't necessary to delete your submission), in this case with the authors as they are on publication. We'll start from here. Hauck 14:39, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
How can I edit canceled entry? Henna 16:30, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
There's no way to do this, you'll have to start again from scratch (you have perhaps an access to your cancelled submissions via the "My Rejected Edits" link). Hauck 17:00, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Editing verified publications / Das digitale Dachau change

Hi. I have your proposed edit to Das digitale Dachau (the page number change for "Eine und tausend Nächte") on hold. When you want to edit an entry that has an active Primary verifier, the verifier should be notified. If you are adding information, it is ok to submit the addition and notify the verifier at the same time. If you are altering or removing information, however, you should check with the verifier first and only submit your change when you get agreement. Sometimes small differences end up identifying different editions. So even though you have made yourself another verifier of Das digitale Dachau, you should check with Hitspacebar about the page number change. Thanks. --MartyD 02:19, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Varianting titles

Hello, I've rejected some of your variating submissions for the same reason. For example, instead of starting from the english canonical title (e.g. this one) and creating a german variant that will eventually have be merged with the already existing one here because you'll have twice the same text, one publess and the other not; it will be simpler to start from the title that you have already entered here and variant it to the original via the "Make This Title a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work " link using the canonical title Id (here 74549). Hauck 08:41, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your advise, I was confused. Henna 15:04, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Alexanders langes Leben, Stalins früher Tod — und andere abwegige Geschichten

Hello, I've put your submission to add the second printing on hold. You're assigning a 1999-11-00 publication date to the record which is the same as the first printing. As you mention that the book is printed in 2000 in the notes, you've got the choice to either set the date to "0000" (unknown) or "2000". It's up to you. Hauck 06:23, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Without reply, I've rejected your submission. Please resubmit if needed. Hauck 14:46, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Back again. The publication date 2000-00-00 is correct, I will try to add the second printing again. Thanks Henna 15:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Die bewohnte Insel / Ein Käfer im Ameisenhaufen / Die Wellen ersticken den Wind

Hello, the result of your cloning submission will be exactly the same record as the existing one. What are you trying to achieve? Hauck 06:27, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

See above. Hauck 14:46, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Hello, I try to add the first printing, but the second printing have the same date (see in the notes). What should I do? Regards Henna 15:14, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Deutschland Utopia

As this can be considered an anthology of speculative fiction I'll add the remaining contents and some notes. Stonecreek 14:55, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Henna 15:19, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Alexej Tolstoi

I am afraid I had to reject your submission which would have made "Алексей Николаевич Толстой" into a pseudonym of "Alexej Tolstoi". I then set the pseudonym relationship to point in the opposite direction and also turned Aëlita into a variant of Аэлита. In addition, I noticed that your verified edition of Aëlita contained two separate "Aëlita" titles, so I have merged them. Hopefully everything looks OK now! Ahasuerus 14:57, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Great, that was my plan. Thanks Henna 15:30, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Your verified edition / printing of Aëlita states it as 'First german paperback edition'. However, there was a verified german paperback edition as early as 1958, see here (and Deutsche Nationalbibliothek has another one published by Aufbau). So it seems appropriate to delete the note; please be careful. Also, a little more information would be welcome, for example on the cover artists (even a note that there's no credit and/or no signature to be found). Thanks, Stonecreek 05:26, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
The pub series SF-Utopia are mostly reprints, this pub is an exemption. I will correct the notes. Btw Rudam add the other pub later, I couldn't see this.
I found the cover artists in this pub. I will add the information in the first four pubs of the series.
Regards Henna 10:23, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Well, the thing is that you should be pretty sure about such statements in the notes. We are still building on german publications, so there should be some research done before (it comes in handy when it is stated in a given publication, though even then it's possible that the publisher makes a mistake, alas). It can also be helpful to give the copyright statements in the notes (that's why I do it): a new year of copyright may also be helpful in identifying revised texts. Stonecreek 11:39, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Traumkristalle

Hello, just a tip: when you enter a new printing or a new edition of an existing collection, it's better to use the "Clone This Pub" function, it will allow you to skip the entering of the individual titles and save the merging phase afterwards that can be quite long. Hauck 07:47, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Please also variant the texts that are left to the canonical "Kurd Lasswitz". Can you confirm that Das Schaffen des Dichters (excerpt) is an ESSAY and not a SHORTFICTION title? Thanks.Hauck 08:02, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Hello, thanks for the tip, but this is new collection with an existing title. I tried, but I cannot remove stories.
The entry in the TOC is: "Aus dem Essay: Das Schaffen des Dichters".
Please look three entries up. Thanks Henna 11:01, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Kontaktversuche

Hello, IMHO a good part of the texts in this anthology seems to be by russian authors and so be translations. It may be interesting to variant them to their original titles. Thanks. Hauck 08:21, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello, all authors are bulgarian, I will add all authors and titles in original language. Regards Henna 11:07, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Der Traumladen

Hello, the texts in this collection will have to be varianted to their original titles (in russian) under the canonical author (Илья Варшавский). Hauck 08:35, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I have a problem to variant two titles.
* Tagebuch / Das Tagebuch
* Konflikt / Der Konflikt
The stories have the same translator and the same year. Do you have a tip for me? Thanks Henna 11:14, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
I've made the variants, it will create in each case a new variant title/canonical title couple. Hauck 11:32, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your support. Henna 21:34, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Atanas Petkow

FYI, I have changed the parent author of Ein Freund from "Атанас Петков" to "Атанас Славов". His full name is "Атанас [first name] Петков [patronymic] Славов [last name]". Apparently his German publisher took his patronymic for his last name :-) Ahasuerus 14:03, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

P.S. I see that you are working on your primary verified Kontaktversuche. I'll ping our Bulgarian editor to see if she can help with variants and pseudonyms. I have put your other submissions on hold for now. Ahasuerus 14:09, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I make a break :). Thanks for your support Henna 14:16, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
I will be on a plane for most of the day today but as soon as I am safely in my hotel room, I will look at this. I recognIze most of the authors so should be able to get most of the stories varianted. Anniemod 15:53, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! Ahasuerus 16:04, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Hello, it's not urgent. Regards Henna 16:16, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
In a funny turn of events, the Peev story is one we researched to death earlier when it was credited under the translator in Romanian :) A quick question - where the year 1978 is coming from in the stories? Because Unser Beweis für die fliegenden Untertassen was not even published in Bulgarian until 1983... (checking again but thought I should ask). And the book seems to be 1984 so I am a bit confused on how the stories ended up with a 1978 date. :)
Are there any original names for the stories in your book by any chance? I think I can connect most of them but a few will take a bit more digging.
About Slavkov - we have two with the same name in Bulgaria. So in a lot of cases one of them went with a P. in the middle or editors used his middle name. So not too surprising.Anniemod 06:46, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
I think that I got them all. Once all that is now in the queue is accepted, all variants and pseudonyms should be in place. I will be back tomorrow to add transliterations, details on the new authors and verify the date I was talking about above (and see if I managed to miss one somewhere). Anniemod 10:06, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

PS: I scan the sources if there any other questions [6] [7]. Henna 12:13, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
We are good - and that one gives me an idea why I had a wrong year. Anniemod 13:25, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
Hello, thanks for your support. I changed the title В бурята to В буря like in the book, is this correct? I see you also edit the stories from Warschawski and Kolupajew, thanks again Henna 21:47, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
The book has it wrong (maybe because they translated or consulted the Russian edition and got confused.) The Bulgarian title is В бурята - this та at the end is a definitive article and without it the title does not have much sense. You can see it here as well [8] -- it is the smaller text under the Russian title. I will revert it back. Feel free to add a note that the book has the title as В буря, which is incorrect :) Anniemod 06:43, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Wo das Getreide wogt

Hello, can you (if you have the info) link this short story to its original title (I didn't see any "evident" candidate). Thanks. Hauck 08:24, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello, you see me problems before I'm sure to post at the help desk, thanks for that. The story is an excerpt from the novel "Der Montag beginnt am Sonnabend". I found this solution, but I don't like it. Regards Henna 15:59, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
It may be possible (it's rare but it happens) that there is indeed no "original title", in this case the title will stay in german and varianted to the canonical authors (this has been done). Thanks for having a look. Hauck 16:13, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

(Isaac) Asimov(')s Science Fiction (Magazin)

Sorry, but it seems that Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazin was only Asimovs Science Fiction (even without an apostroph) for the last numbers (I'd think beginning with #48), according to the title pages. As we go by the title pages: could you please change the publications and corresponding titles? Thanks, Stonecreek 17:50, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for the advice, I took the last episode as template. I will change the titles, but in the dnb is an apostrophe, the title page is a mixture of graphic and normal font. Regards Henna 18:57, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Well, as there isn't any apostrophe visible, it shouldn't be entered (even the DNB has few but some errors). Thanks, Stonecreek 12:20, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
I'll add some notes and determine the shortfiction lengths for some of the Heyne anthologies you entered and verified. Stonecreek 10:00, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Original publication years for In Sonnennähe

Hello,

Just letting you know that I am updating the original publication years of the original Polish stories in your verified In Sonnennähe. When the variants were created, they were left with the year of the German editions. :) Anniemod 09:16, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Henna 14:05, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Bad ISBNs

I accepted your Die Rekonstruktion des Menschen submission, but since "3-360-00846-5" is not a valid ISBN (not only may it be the wrong ISBN, but it does not verify as an ISBN), I added a "#" to the front. If we knew the correct ISBN, we could record it and leave the invalid one(s) to the notes. But if the ISBN we have does not pass validation, then we treat it as we would treat any other non-ISBN catalogue number. Thanks. --MartyD 11:47, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

My tip: 3-360-00208-3--Wolfram.winkler 10:10, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure, in the dnb both ISBN marked as wrong. Regards Henna 13:46, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Capllaria

The title seems to be misspelled here. Or is it really that way? Stonecreek 14:20, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the typo advice, I have corrected the title. Henna 14:53, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

First title dates

I'd think that many of the publications in the series SF-Utopia have been published before, so that their title dates will be in many cases set to earlier XXXX-YY-ZZ. What do you think? Do you know the original dates of their first publications? (When entering content titles such as shortfictions it is quite easily possible to give the dates of first publications).

Speaking of shortfictions, it would be helpful if you could specify the length (short story, novelette, novella) upon entering. This way there won't be a need for a second edit. Thanks, Stonecreek 14:26, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
I understand test. Henna 15:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! By the way, you don't have to notify primary verifiers if you add notes to titles, because no (verified) publication will be affected. Stonecreek 16:52, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Months of publication

Hello! When, as in the case of "Minority Report", the month of publication is explicitly stated ("Deutsche Erstausgabe 10/2002" and it is the first printing) we do record the month (as we do when we have a reliable source, such as a statement in a magazine). I have changed the entry (also the price to the format €X.XX). Thanks, Stonecreek 19:45, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

This is the second printing in 2002. The first printing is in 10/02. Do you understand my problem (try to add the first printing)? What you have changed at the price entry? Thanks Henna 19:59, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Well, it's best to begin with the first printing and then clone the second printing from it: this way you have the title record correctly dated. I didn't realize that it is the second printing. As we have no further information on the month of publication I'll change it back to 20002-00-00. The price format was €X,XX, but we enter prices with a '.'. Thanks, Stonecreek 20:18, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

In your verified "Lichtjahr 1"

Hello, Are you sure it is "Dmitri Bilenkin • shortfiction by In allen Universen" and not the other way around in Lichtjahr 1 on page 99? Thanks! Anniemod 07:34, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I was a little bit confused :) Thanks for the advice Henna 17:19, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Das Hasenpanier

Could the Manuel van Loggem story in your verified Das digitale Dachau be a translation of Het Hazenpad? The story should be about pedestrians being hunted by cars. Thanks for checking. --Willem 20:52, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Also, Die anderen Sprachen is probably a translation of De Andere Talen. It's a weird story about a little girl called Jessie. --Willem 21:17, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. After reading I varianted the stories. Regards Henna 12:36, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Wind / Der zweite Versuch

Hello, I approved your submission for Wind / Der zweite Versuch but changed the pub type from CHAPBOOK to OMNIBUS; based on the the pub type help screen, if Wind and Der zweite Versuch are novels, then this is appropriate. CHAPBOOK should only be used for publications that contain only a single work of short fiction or a single poem. Thanks, Albinoflea 03:53, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Well, as is quite often the case, this happened here also: the publisher may state a text as a novel, but it's really a novella by our standard. So I'll change the type to COLLECTION. Stonecreek 04:40, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you both for your help. Where is the border between novella and novel? Both titles have a little bit more than 100 pages. Regards Henna 10:30, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
It is the word count: from 40,000 words on a fictional text counts as NOVEL. Stonecreek 15:06, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Blumen wachsen im Himmel

Hi. I think your Blumen wachsen im Himmel submission that I have on hold would duplicate this entry. Or am I missing something? Thanks. --MartyD 01:07, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Now I'm more convinced I am missing something... I have the same question about your Tötet ihn submission and this entry and the one for 1984 and this. --MartyD 01:19, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Hello, these books are not first printings, but I dont know which printing. I think the copyright page from the later printings are the same as in the first printing, so I set the month to 00.
* Blumen wachsen im Himmel prints from 18.000 – 22.000
* Tötet ihn prints from 13.000 – 17.000
* 1984 prints from 101.000 – 130.000
Regards Henna 12:31, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Ok, I understand. If we do not know the date of the printing, we use a full date of 0000-00-00. I will change the dates on them to that. If you have some evidence that the year is correct, we can restore that and add a note explaining why the year is known. Thanks. --MartyD 11:15, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
I changed my mind about changing the date to 0000-00-00. I will let you decide whether to do that. If you believe the "Printed in 1984" applies to the current printing and is not reproduced from the original, then 1984-00-00 is ok. Sometimes there is advertising with a date, or lists/announcements of titles known to have been issued in a later year, that can demonstrate the date on the copyright page does not apply to the current printing. --MartyD 11:24, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Uploading images

Hello, you've re-uploaded a certain quantity of images for Ullstein pbs (at first glance, they seem quite similar to me albeit a bit heavier). Please note that our diskspace is limited and such duplicate uploads will either consume it or will have to be deleted manually by a moderator. Hauck 07:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I was unhappy with the quality of the scans. Next time I look twice befor uploading a cover scan. Sorry for the trouble Henna 10:06, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Translator of "Das Weinen nach dem Schmerz"

Hi. Can you please check if the translator of Das Weinen nach dem Schmerz in the Kontakte mit dem Unbekannten anthology is really spelt "Penka" and not "Pelka"? I'm asking because there are sources who state "Pelka Hildebrand" as translator. Thanks, Jens Hitspacebar 15:31, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes it's spelled Penka, in Lichjahr 4 the same. What is your source? Regards Henna 10:55, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
My source is Agop Melkonjan - Stories at chpr.at. It looks like it's an error there. Thanks for checking. Jens Hitspacebar 17:01, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Cover artist for a German Douglas Adams omnibus

Hello! When there's some kind of art (a drawing, a painting or a photograph), we would credit the artist (here: the photograph supplier) and not the cover designer. As we already have 'Zefa' on file I'd recommend to take that name into the pub. record. Stonecreek 05:17, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

My plan was to remove the cover artist. Thanks for the link to Zefa. Regards Henna 10:47, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

I had to hard reject your cloning of Das Leben, das Universum und der ganze Rest. This was probably caused by merging the title(s). You'll have to resubmit. Christian Stonecreek 13:56, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Die Rückkehr zur Erde

Hello, I've been able to confirm Les Edwards as artist for this publication. Hauck 12:43, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Die T-Ordnung

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. You're trying to variant a SHORTFICTION record (the german) to an ESSAY record (the original). Perhaps is it mistyped in the german publication. Can you have a look? Thanks. Hauck 19:28, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Hallo, yes it's not shortfiction. The title is an essay about large numbers. Thanks Henna 19:02, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Neue Sterne

Hello, I've approved your submission but I'm wondering if Quellen und Übersetzer, Copyrightvermerke (Neue Sterne) should really be included as per this part of the help (that read "Acknowledgments: Generally do not include. Occasionally an acknowledgments may contain more than a simple listing of copyright dates and thank-yous to friends and researchers; if it contains material such as reminiscences, opinionation or anything else likely to interest a reader or researcher, consider including it. "). As you entered the record the final choice is yours. Hauck 18:53, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I'm not sure. Is this interesting for reader or researcher? Up to now I added the sources when they are a part of the TOC, like here. Regards Henna 19:32, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
IMHO, it's just an extension of the copyright page so not really interesting to us and our users (as we aim to provide exactly such data). Note also that the toc mustn't be our guide to what's inluded.Hauck 20:12, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Der Fotograf des Unsichtbaren

Hello again,

All stories in this anthology now have their parents properly set (or will when my pending are cleared). If the copyright page has the original date of publication of any of the originals that I could not find (the ones that say "unknown" in the list now), you may want to update the records with these. Other from that - all tracked down, varianted and connected. Annie 18:57, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Great work, thank you very much. I will add the date of the stories, there are exact sources given. Regards Henna 19:33, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Anytime. The two that are still orphans are also coming when a moderator clears them from my queue - one is Bulgarian (and on those I have dates - some of those may not match what the book claims - as in such cases some of the magazine publications were getting ignored back in the days. I'll add notes to these at some point anyway to clarify where the date is coming from), one Hungarian (with no date). :) Annie 19:42, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Gut eingerichtete Planeten

Hello, I've approved your submission but, just to be sure can you confirm that the anthology is credited to " W. Gakow " as there's also a "Wl. Gakow " in the contents? Thanks. Hauck 07:59, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, on the title page is "W. Gakow" stated. The Essay, in the TOC and in the sources is "Wl. Gakow" stated. Regards Henna 18:54, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Let me know if you need assistance with any variants here (or tracking down the original stories details) :) Annie 19:07, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Hello Annie, your assistance is welcome, my Russian is more worse than my English :). I scanned the sources [9][10]. Regards Henna 21:20, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I will get all of these varianted and beautified later today. Annie 21:30, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
I forgot Strugatzki is Struazki without the t. Good night Henna 21:50, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
But he did not lose the "g" as well I hope :). Good night. We will sort that out when you are back. Annie 22:17, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
Good morning (probably). All variants done - here. A few of the dates are not as the ones in the scans (which were very helpful!) due to an earlier edition being found in Russian. I have a few notes to add to a few of the Russian stories. The only thing remaining on the German side is the Strugatzki/Strugazki - let me know if you need help with that? And adding a note for the Translator in each German title - as your sources above have them listed, we may as well save the information. If you would rather not do that, let me know and I will add the notes tomorrow. :) Annie 03:56, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
Great beautified, thanks a lot. I will try to correct the author name from Strugatzki to Strugazki (only one g, only one t). Thanks again Henna 18:55, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
You are very welcome :) Annie 20:27, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Variants of variants ...

... are not allowed. So, since we have variant titles for Ночь на Марсе as well as for Ночь в пустыне, I'm afraid we really first have to decide which title should become the parent, second to variant the variants to the proper parent and then variant the one Russian sibling to the proper parent. I have put your submission on hold and will also see if there's some information available (but please do the same). Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 11:16, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Ночь в пустыне in the Russian edition (1960), Ночью на Марсе in a magazine (1960), Ночь на Марсе apparent in all later printings. I think Ночь в пустыне is the parent story. Regards Henna 11:51, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, but the way you explained it, Ночь на Марсе seems to be the parent, as it likely was the first publication (assuming that the magazine publication was in fact the first) and has prevailed ever since. Also, as a further hint in that direction, "Bibliographisches Lexikon der utopisch-phantastischen Literatur" cites this as the original title. Stonecreek 13:09, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
Difficult, if the magazine is the first publication the title of the story should 'Ночью на Марсе'? I'm not sure and it's not very important for me, so we take the title from the encyclopaedia. Regards Henna 14:51, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
Both titles are very similar, so that the magazine entry may be a typo (the encyclopedia stated in fact the shorter version). I rejected your submissin and made the necessary variants for Ночь на Марсе. Thank you, Stonecreek 15:20, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
Just to explain for the record: Ночью is Russian for "at night", while "Ночь" is just "(a) night"; so likely not a typo but editorial decision (not approved by the authors). --JVjr 05:16, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
Thanks for your advice Henna 14:37, 19 September 2017 (EDT)
Btw your signature is broken. Henna 14:40, 19 September 2017 (EDT)

Die andere Zukunft omnibus

Hello, I think I've grasped what led you to outsource the shortfiction contents, as per your previous question on how to handle omnibuses.

As some research showed that per DNB there actually were no separate publications of the included paperbacks I'm beginning to transfer the contents to the OMNIBUS and then delete the paperbacks: the shortfiction contents belong into it; the respective covers will then show up as interior art.

Accidentally, I already deleted the separate publication of Picknick am Wegesrand since it was dated to 1989 and not 1999 (likely due to a typo) and there was no hint for a publication in that year with a corresponding cover image; so, the cover photographer is lost, alas; can you take a look as to who's credited? I'll also upload and link to an image of the other side of the slipcase (or shall this image with Heisler's art become the cover image - after all, he's credited for the art, isn't he?). As per this image the title for the OMNIBUS could also be entered as "Phantastische Bibliothek: Die andere Zukunft", as there doesn't seem to be a proper title page.

Also, maybe the Lovecraft title is in fact the COLLECTION of the same name? (just guessing from the relatively high page count, of course.) Regards, Christian Stonecreek 10:18, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

One more thing: where's the price of €5.95 from, as in 1999 there still was the previous currency valid (say, what was its name, can you remember)? Stonecreek 14:24, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello Christian, thanks for your support
* Picknick am Wegesrand 1989 is an typo, correct is 1999
* Cover from Picknick am Wegesrand "Umaschlagfoto: pwe Kinoarchiv, Hamburg" from the Stalker movie
* The Photo of this omnibus is credited to Gregory Heisler at the bottom of the box front, bottom, spine
* "Phantastische Bibliothek: Die andere Zukunft" is the better title
* The Lovecraft story: "Titel der Originalausgabe The Case of Charles Dexter Ward … erschien erstmals in deutscher Sprache innerhalb der Bibliothek des Hauses Usher im Insel Verlag 1971", there is no other story and the books have the standard Suhrkamp format
* The German currency in 1999 :), I forgot. There no title page and also no copyright page, price is not stated, I found the price in this catalogue
Thanks again Henna 17:56, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
I've changed the title and blanked the price, while adding a note. Is the organisation now okay, or shall for example the respective pages be shown? And what's about the cover? Would the front be okay? Christian Stonecreek 18:33, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, looks very good. The front cover have no title, the spin a little less cover art, so I create this. What do you think? Regards Henna 17:32, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
I've immediately linked this great image! Superb! Stonecreek 19:40, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Now everything is fine. Great work, thanks again Henna 20:13, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Absurdistan

Hi, yesterday I specified the month of publication / corrected the publisher's name for two german editions of Shteyngart's novel. Rowohlt and Rowohlt Taschenbuch really are two separate publishers, although they are situated under a common holding. Christian Stonecreek 03:44, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

Bibliographie der Science-fiction in der DDR 1949-1979

Hi. Is Olaf R. Spittel's Bibliographie der Science-fiction in der DDR 1949-1979 in Lichtjahr 2 the same as in Lichtjahr 3 ? If they are the same, they should be merged. If they are not, they should be disambiguated somehow. Thanks ! Linguist 10:48, 9 April 2017 (UTC).

Hallo, this bibliography is a series from Lichtjahr 2 up to Lichtjahr 6. Should I add a number or add the very long subtitle (i.e. Lichtjahr 4: Bibliographie der Science-fiction in der DDR 1949-1979: Autoren des nichtsozialistischen Auslands und deutsche Vorkriegsautoren, Gesamtverzeichnis der Anthologien, Deutschsprachige Science-fiction von Verlagen des sozialistischen Auslands)? Thanks Henna 12:06, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Just put numbers, if you are sure of the numbering. Or better still, disambiguate with the title of the anthology. The simpler, the better ! Thanks, Linguist 16:02, 9 April 2017 (UTC).
Done! Regards Henna 18:06, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
I have created a pub series for this bibliography, which you can see here. I also have made one for Lichtjahr, the result is here. If you intend to enter more of these Lichtjahr records, you can include the corresponding series if you like. Thanks, Linguist 12:05, 15 April 2017 (UTC).
Thank you very much Henna 17:03, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Agnus McKie vs Angus McKie

Hi, could you please check in your verified copy of Himmelsfluss if the credited cover artist is really given as Agnus McKie. If so, could you compare the art with Angus McKie to see if the publishers have made a mistake and that this is a variant name for him.--Dirk P Broer 08:30, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Hallo, it's my mistake, I swapped the letters. Thanks for the advice Henna 17:43, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Rückkehr zum Mars

I have your clone of Rückkehr zum Mars on hold. The publication notes state 'First German edition "Deutsche Erstausgabe 5/2001", second printing "Printed in Germany 3/2001"'. It's seems odd the second printing would be two months before the first. Was that a typo? -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:40, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

No, this is not a typo. In the next pub of this series are also two dates and this is the first printing. I think the dates in the first and in the second printing are the same. The second printing is not listed in the dnb.de. Should we simply remove the month? Henna 17:53, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
I accepted it, kept the date in the pub (based on recording what the pub states), and added an explanatory note. Please review the note and tweak if you feel it needs it. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:54, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Henna 22:23, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the late interception (I've been on vacation), but this is not a case of pre-publication, since it was Heyne's standard practice at that time to state the month of printing as well as the official month of publication (here: May of 2001). If available, we do record the official months of publication the month and the regarding note should be changed to 2001-05-00 as per the statement in the publication. Christian Stonecreek 09:01, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
I have changed the month of publication according to Heyne's practice; the statement in the copyright section was either reprinted from the first printing or the demand by booksellers was in fact high enough to sustain an immediate second printing. Stonecreek 19:05, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Sorry Christian, I haven't seen your message. Thanks for your revise Henna 19:14, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Der Galaktische Topfheiler cover image

Hi Henna. I've got a question regarding your copy of Der Galaktische Topfheiler. The cover image there looks different than the one shown at Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, for example black font versus white font. Do you know if there were two covers of this edition? Or is the difference only because of the image/scan quality of the ISFDB cover image? Jens Hitspacebar 11:36, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello Jens, the title is printed in silver font color, very hard to scan. I now my first scans are all to dark, should I upload a revised image? Regards Henna 12:18, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback. I think a revised image resembling the real cover would be good. Do you want to try it? I should receive a copy of the book in a few days therefore I could try a scan as well then if your scan results are still too dark. Jens Hitspacebar 12:39, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

I've gotten my copy now and made an image myself, which turned out to look even better, and replaced the cover image in the ISFDB record. I'll ask at the moderator board to remove your gamma-corrected version. Jens Hitspacebar 10:12, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Familientreffen

Hello, I've approved your submissions but the last two publications here looks quite similar to me. Perhaps a wrong click? Hauck 13:54, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

I had a connection error and send the submission again. Please delete the duplicate. Thanks Henna 14:22, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Is it the same with the pending submission for another 1984 Diogenes edition of Das Kind von Morgen? Stonecreek 20:07, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello, not the same mistake, but any other, I think by refresh all tabs. I cancelled the submission. Do you have an indication this is not the first German edition? Thanks for your hint. Henna 18:32, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Strugatzki Werkausgabe 1

Hi Henna. I made submissions to change the date of your verified Die bewohnte Insel / Ein Käfer im Ameisenhaufen / Die Wellen ersticken den Wind from 2010-00-00 to 2010-05-00 because it's the first printing and therefore the month is known from the infos available on the copyright page. Vice versa I changed the record for the second printing from 2010-05-00 to 2010-00-00. Jens Hitspacebar 19:50, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Karel Čapek's Die Umzugsfirma

I'm in the process of correcting Karel Čapek's last name from Capek to Čapek. In a majority of cases we had his name incorrectly listed without the hachek over the C. I've gone ahead and changed the title record for the story "Die Umzugsfirma" which is included in your verified copy of Der Traumfabrikant. Could you check your copy to see if how his name appears in the book. If it is Čapek, then nothing further needs to be done. Otherwise, we can change the author back to Capek in the title record. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 11:20, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello Ron, yes it's written Čapek. Regards Henna 17:16, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Die Parabel vom Sämann

Hello,

I have your submission on hold. You are removing a lot of sources information from the note and you had not verified it or added a note to the moderators that you plan to. Are you planning to verify (so the sources are the actual book) or do you have any other way to credit the cover artist? Thanks! Annie 17:48, 3 July 2017 (EDT)

Hello Annie, I will verify the pub when it's finished. Regards Henna
Approved. Thanks. Annie 14:18, 4 July 2017 (EDT)

Orwell's Mein Katalonien...

... dosen't seem to belong here, alas. Most of Orwell's work does lay outside the genre boundaries. So, though he wrote two eminent works of speculative fiction, it seems that he is considered below-the-threshold. Would you like to comment? Christian Stonecreek 16:27, 5 July 2017 (EDT) I'll delete the publication / title and reject the submission for establishing a variant. Sorry, Christian Stonecreek 00:50, 9 July 2017 (EDT)

Hello Christian, I now thats no science fiction, no fiction, it was real. I added this pub and without thinking I added the Orwell novel. I thought this is the same problem, if an science fiction author is present in the db I add also the non-genre titels, clearly wrong. So I will also delete this title, another real story added by me. Regards and sorry for the delay Henna 15:29, 10 July 2017 (EDT)
Henna, apologies for not catching that when you added it - I somehow managed to approve it. Orwell is not considered a SF writer (he has SF works but he is not mostly a SF writer - like Asimov for example). This is where the threshold is coming into play - if an author is above it (Asimov), his non-SF novels are added; authors that have a few SF novels (no matter how important they are) and a lot more non-SF works have only their SF works included. Just do not ask how the threshold is determined - it is more art than science. Annie 15:50, 10 July 2017 (EDT)
Thanks for your explanations. A new experience, delete titles and pubs :). Regards Henna 16:08, 10 July 2017 (EDT)

Wrong cover: Diamond Age: Die Grenzwelt

Hi Henna, You seem to have added the cover for this pub Diamond Age: Die Grenzwelt. I would like to verify this pub, but on the right side of my book cover (first printing of the paperback edition) is printed in blue Goldmann. You're cover picture with the red printed Blanvalet seems to be from a later printing. Could you please remove your cover from this pub and add the cover to a new created pub. Thanks! The pseudonym question

Hello Henna,

I responded to your question about pseudonyms. Let me know if you want me to do it or if you would like to try based on my explanations. If you need any more details and/or have any other questions, let me know! Annie 18:27, 31 August 2017 (EDT)

Sterntagebücher again

Hello! Both your verified 1961 and 1990 editions seem to miss the fictional introductions by Lem ("Vorrede" / "Vorwort"). Is that so (and is the 'Vorrede' different from the first 'Vorwort')? Thanks for thinking about it. Christian Stonecreek 14:03, 4 September 2017 (EDT)

Hello Christian, I will add the introductions. Thanks for your hint Henna 14:06, 4 September 2017 (EDT)
Difficult, there are three introductions:
  • the introduction from the first edition 1957 (German 1961)
  • a new introduction plus introduction for the expanded edition from the second and third edition 1966/1971 (German 1973)
Only editions which include 26th travel have the original introduction. The new introduction explain why the 26th travel was removed (lost, never existent or what ever (fiction in fiction)). The introduction for the expanded edition is what it is. I hope my text is comprehensible. Henna 15:08, 4 September 2017 (EDT)
It is. Well, then we have in fact three different introductions. No problem there, I'd think. Christian Stonecreek 02:38, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
Hello Christian, next try :)
  • first introduction here 1954, this is correct
  • first introduction again here 1954, wrong year or to merge with the other introduction in 1954 and unmerge all non Polish titles
  • second introduction don't exist, first published after 1954 (maybe 1966)
  • third introduction here this is correct
Thanks for your help Henna 06:30, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
I'll try to sort them out. But upon looking at the texts it seems that (at least the two later ones for the expansions) are either credited to 'Professor A. S. Tarantoga' or 'Prof. A. S. Tarantoga'. Would this be the case for your verified publications? Christian Stonecreek 08:31, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
Hello Christian, Tarantoga is an character in many stories and novels by Lem. I think this is not a credit, it's part of the fictional introductions and all introductions are marked as short fiction. First edition Astral Sternu Tarantoga. Later editions Professor A. S. Tarantoga and Prof. A. S. Tarantoga Henna 09:40, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
We do consider it as a credit (like Hildegunst von Mythenmetz for a different author). It wouldn't also be meaningful to assume Lem as he fictionally refers to himself as LEM (Lunar Excursion Mobile) in the introduction to the expansion from 1971. Christian Stonecreek 10:11, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
I think the introduction in question in here will be the new one (likely from 1971 as it refers to the LEM)? Stonecreek 10:27, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
Hello Christian, I'm not sure. The first point is the date. In the German Wikipedia is an entry Sterntagebücher, there are three Polish editions:
  • 1957 first edition: 12, 14, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26
I can't verify this informations. I guess the second introduction is published in 1966 or earlier and the third introduction is published in 1971 or earlier.
The second point, when Stanisław Lem is written on the title page, why we should change titles to Tarantoga or LEM when we know it's fictionally?
Aspirant of Institute of Tichologie, Fomalhaut :) Henna 16:36, 9 September 2017 (EDT)
There may exist another introduction, as the Lunar Excursion Mobile was unlikely to be known of by Lem in 1966 (its first use was in 1971).
The question of the credit for the introductions: as with other introductions we would use the signing (of Tarantoga)!? Christian Stonecreek 00:35, 10 September 2017 (EDT)
Hello Christian, thanks for your work. I will import the new and the expanded introduction. The Tarantoga question, you have more experience, if you think its better to create a new pseudonym to Lem, I have no problem with that.
Just a last question: What is your source of the date 1966/1971 of the second introduction? Thanks again for your help Henna 12:07, 10 September 2017 (EDT)
Well, the copyright is assigned to Lem for the year 1971 in my 1978 copy of "Sterntagebücher" but it mentions only two new stories; there seem to have been other new stories earlier (1966). Christian Stonecreek 23:34, 10 September 2017 (EDT)
Thanks again Henna 12:45, 12 September 2017 (EDT)

Die Sterntagebücher des Weltraumfahrers Ijon Tichy

Zur Hölle mit der Maus, noch ein Bier, Bitte

Zur Hölle mit der Maus, noch ein Bier, Bitte!

(transferred from my talkpage:)

Hello Jan, can you help me to clear the original title of this story? In the German pub all is written in upper case K CERTU S TOU MYSI, NALEJTE MI PIVO!. Thanks Henna 15:53, 23 September 2017 (EDT)

As it happens I saw it on your page recently and did some research out of my own curiosity but came up empty. All I can do is confirm that "K čertu s tou myší, nalejte mi pivo!" would be proper Czech diacritics. (Conceivably a typescript could have all-caps headline as a matter of formatting, but I don't think it is intentionally stressed "shouting"; the other titles are capitalized normally at the copyright page?) However, this is not known to bibliographies, Google (incl. Books) etc.; in fact, Pavel Toufar was a space popularizer with minimal fiction output -- there is just one SF story by him, 1984411 (and a 1977 short novel, pseudodocumentary about Apollo 13 accident being caused by a UFO collision). While it still leaves in principle a possibility of a periodical publication, which largely go under the radar of http://legie.info, I consider it much more likely that (yet again) Jeschke or his Czech collaborator(s) got hold of an unpublished manuscript and considered it a good idea.
He is reasonably active at https://facebook.com/pavel.toufar.1 (less so on Twitter) and his freemail provider is apparently Post.cz, with username being first name followed by a dot and surname. So one of us could write to him and ask... I don't have the time at the moment but would be able next week -- I have a similar, even more complicated mystery that can't be solved other than by asking the author so I should start training (see ISFDB:Verification requests#Contents of Czech story in Die letzten Bastionen -- by any chance, would you be able to scan the copyright page as you did above for #Neue Sterne?) Or if you can't wait and/or want to save me some bother (I'm awful at composing explanations), you can ask him yourself (in English rather than German, I suppose; he also might feel more flattered and disposed to reply by interest from abroad :-) and feel free to mention that he can reply in Czech if it's easier for him and I'd be happy to translate.
All the best, --JVjr 09:22, 29 September 2017 (EDT)
Sorry for the late reply, I was on holiday. Thank you very much for your answer and your research. All titles in in this anthology are written in upper case, in the TOC and also on the title page of each story. I take a picture of the sources, but there is nothing new [12][13]. Thanks again Henna 14:02, 3 October 2017 (EDT)

Menschen Göttern gleich = Menschen, Göttern gleich ?

Hi, I've put your submission on hold as there are some inconsistencies that need to be clarified:

1) The title seems to be different from the canonical german (?)

2) If you have a 13-digit ISBN stated in the publication and a higher price than the first dtv edition, it seems that you own not the first but a higher printing. Please take a look.

Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 14:16, 4 October 2017 (EDT)

Hello Christian, after I added the cover I saw the comma. My book is the second printing in 2009, I will change the ISBN and the price and add a note of the sources. Can you help me to add the comma? Thanks Henna 14:31, 4 October 2017 (EDT)
I've done some changes, but you may want to improve them. Christian Stonecreek 23:56, 4 October 2017 (EDT)

Die Mauern der Welt hoch

I have restored the day of publication for this title & publication (and added a note of the source), as it is much more detailed than just giving a year. Christian Stonecreek 00:15, 10 November 2017 (EST)

Author birthplace

Hi Henna, I approved your submission for author Bernd A. Chmura but please note that the birthplace is entered in the form "City, Administrative division, Country" (if all these data are still available) and that for locations whose names have changed over time, you should use the name as of the time of the author's birth (which is "East Germany" in this case, not "Germany"). See Template:AuthorFields:BirthPlace for more details. I made the necessary changes already. Jens Hitspacebar 17:55, 17 November 2017 (EST)

Hello Jens, right for Bernd A. Chmura but wrong for Peter Laube. Thanks Henna 10:00, 19 November 2017 (EST)

Printing of Der positronische Mann

Hello! With the price of DM 13.59 (and another at €6.95), this can't be the first printing of 1998 as you initially stated. I have amended the year and the notes, please supply the correct printing number. Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 02:04, 26 November 2017 (EST)

Hello Christian, there was a label for the new prices since 2002-01-01. I have corrected the entry. Regards Henna 13:31, 26 November 2017 (EST)

Die Entführung des Serails

Hi Henna, I think that the two title records for Die Entführung des Serails (here and here) should be merged into one title record. I remember having seen "Erstausgabe" or "Erstveröffentlichung" repeatedly in publications which were actually reprints or reissues and therefore not a first publication. I guess the publishers sometimes just copy the copyright page from the first into the new edition. Or is there stronger evidence that the reprinted edition is so different that it justifies a separate title record? Jens Hitspacebar 14:54, 26 November 2017 (EST)

Hello Jens, yes it is the same title, I wanted add a new pub to the existent title. Thanks Henna 15:03, 26 November 2017 (EST)
Ok. Merge done :) Jens Hitspacebar 15:05, 26 November 2017 (EST)
Hi, I have corrected the note for Das Geheimnis des ersten Planeten where you stated both: 1) First German edition and 2) License of Schneekluth (usually, not both can be correct at the same time). Christian Stonecreek 23:10, 26 November 2017 (EST)

Bajki robotów (Robots' Fables)

The collection "Robotermärchen" contains (despite the title) also stories from the Cyberiada, so I rejected your submission to make this a part of the above series. Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 16:18, 30 November 2017 (EST)

Hello Christian, in the original Polish collection are also three stories from the Cyberiada. Regards Henna 16:52, 30 November 2017 (EST)
Thanks for the hint: then this shouldn't be part of the series.
But thinking about it and considering that it's quite a long time ago that I've read the stories: do you know if the Cyberiada in any way can be seen as a sub-series of Bajki robotów? Regards, Christian Stonecreek 06:38, 1 December 2017 (EST)
Ha! Some research has shown that it's really part of 'Bajki robotów'. Some essays like this one see it as a continuation, concentrating on Trurl and Klapauzius, and both series are certainly written in a very similar mood. Thus, I have put the collection into the series. Thanks for bringing this up! Christian Stonecreek 01:36, 2 December 2017 (EST)
Glad to be of some use! Regards Henna 12:56, 3 December 2017 (EST)

Die Welt wird umgepolt

Hello, there seems something wrong with this publication, at least the price doesn't seem to fit. According to DNB, DM 6.80 was the price for the 1985 publication. Can you take a look? Also, DNB guesses the year as 1975 for the second printing. Christian Stonecreek 06:27, 18 December 2017 (EST)

Hello Christian, you are right the price is wrong, I will change the entry to DM 4.00. In the book is no year stated, I guess Made in Germany II 11122 is the second printing. In the DNB the date of the second printing is marked with an query. Do you have more informations? Thanks Henna 15:36, 18 December 2017 (EST)
Yes, II seems to mark the printing. And no, I have no further information on the year, but the price would fit. Christian Stonecreek 03:17, 20 December 2017 (EST)

Hello Dirk, I think your explanation to the page count is not current, please look here. Regards Henna 13:21, 21 December 2017 (EST)

I think you are right, but I also think -as there are two editions involved, and three verifiers- you can best take this up with JLochhas and above all with Stonecreek, he owns (and has verified) the other edition -also with 313+[1].--Dirk P Broer 14:26, 21 December 2017 (EST)

Das Molekular-Café

Hi Henna. I've put your submission for Das Molekular-Café on hold because your submission would change a primary verification for the first printing from 1969 (see DNB) done by the first primary verifier into the second printing from 1970. Why didn't you clone the existing publication for your second printing? Or is there something else you want to achieve? Jens Hitspacebar 16:34, 8 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Jens, Paul-Heinz Linckens added the second printing of the first edition in 1970. I try to correct this entry and create the first printing in 1969. When I clone this pub, Paul is the verifier of the first printing. Regards Henna 17:54, 8 January 2018 (EST)
I don't fully understand yet. Your pending submission would make Paul's publication the second printing, so how can he become verifier of the first printing afterwards again? You can't move verifiers to other publication records (which would be the clone). Or is your plan to edit the currently existing publication the be the second printing (which is your pending submission), then clone it, then the clone is the second printing, and then you'd change the original publication record back to first printing? Jens Hitspacebar 16:53, 9 January 2018 (EST)
Hello Jens, Paul-Heinz wrote in the notes Data from 2nd German edition (1970), this indicate he have the second printing of the first edition. I try to fix this. Regards Henna 17:02, 9 January 2018 (EST)
Yes, but on the other hand the currently stated year 1969 indicates that it's the first printing. Keep in mind that editors sometimes simply forget to remove the "data from" line from a note after they made a primary verification. But before we discuss this further there's still a more general question, because I still don't understand the following part from your first answer above: "When I clone this pub, Paul is the verifier of the first printing". That's a contradiction, because your currently pending submission would make him verifier of the second printing. Maybe it could all become clearer if you explain how the final outcome should look like after all changes: which record (current or clone) will be first and which one the second printing, and who is primary verifier of which record of these two records? We'll find a solution! :) Jens Hitspacebar 18:26, 9 January 2018 (EST)
My plan was: make the current entry to the second printing (verifier: Paul-Heinz and henna). Take the second printing and clone it to the first printing (verifier: nobody). I have no problem when Paul-Heinz is the verifier of the first printing and you reverse my submission. Please save the interiorart. Thanks Henna 12:48, 11 January 2018 (EST)
Ok. I think trusting the year is better because, as I wrote already, the "data from" info could be an old relic, maybe entered by another editor than Paul and before he had verified it. I approved your submission but changed to year back to 1969 and the printing to the first. Also added some additional infos to the note and kept the interior art records which you submitted. Also changed the DNB-ID you had submitted (457628057) from the second printing to the first printing. You can now unverify this record and clone it. :) Jens Hitspacebar 14:01, 11 January 2018 (EST)
Thank you very much! Henna 14:03, 11 January 2018 (EST)

Der rote Planet

Hi Henna, I've put your submission for Der rote Planet on hold. You want to change its data from first to second printing, however, there is already a publication record for the second printing. If I approved your submission we'd have two publication records for the same printing afterwards. What's your goal with this submission? Jens Hitspacebar 13:17, 12 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Jens, thanks for the hint. I canceled my submission. My goal was to create confusion :), No I forgot that I create the second printing too. Confused regards Henna 13:30, 12 January 2018 (EST)
Ok, thanks, no problem. Jens Hitspacebar 13:37, 12 January 2018 (EST)

Der Wüstenplanet Anhang I and II

Hi Henna, you want to import "Anhang I: Die Ökologie des Wüstenplaneten" and "Anhang II: Die Religion des Wüstenplaneten" from the 2016 edition of 553641 into the one from 1994. However, the 2016 edition was translated by Jakob Schmidt, whereas the 1994 edition you want to import into was translated by Ronald M. Hahn. This usually requires separate title records for each translator. Or do you have information that "Anhang I" and "Anhang II" in the 2016 edition have been translated by Ronald M. Hahn? Jens Hitspacebar 15:24, 12 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Jens, the appendixes have the same title and no translator is given, do you think it is better to create a new entry? Thanks Henna 16:44, 12 January 2018 (EST)
Yes. The translator for these two titles was likely forgotten to be entered. The publication record for the 2016 edition clearly stated as Jakob Schmidt as translator (I just added it to the title records), therefore to separate titles for Anhang I and II are necessary. I approved your submission but removed Anhang I and II from it. You can enter these as new titles. You should then add the translator of the 1994 edition to all the titles. Jens Hitspacebar 17:49, 12 January 2018 (EST)
I also created all the variants for the new 1994 "Anhang..." titles and add the translator to them. Jens Hitspacebar
Thank you very much! Henna 06:36, 13 January 2018 (EST)

Der Asteroidenkrieg

Hi, I wonder about the cover of this pub because I found another one at Amazon. --Zapp 15:22, 13 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Zapp, I think the Amazon cover is from the ebook edition. Take a look here. Regards Henna 11:22, 14 January 2018 (EST)
I asked because I recognized that the cover image wasn't uploaded by Yourself. The ebook covers are different but at Amazon not linked correctly. I was confused at a time. Now I can see clearly now. Thank You. --Zapp 17:59, 14 January 2018 (EST)

Alle Roboter-Geschichten cover artist

Hi Henna, you entered "Three Lions" as cover artist in your submission of "Alle Roboter-Geschichten". However, the cover artist is not stated at the data source (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek). What's the data source for the cover artist? Jens Hitspacebar 13:59, 16 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Jens, the data are from a trustworthy scan. Regards Henna 15:39, 16 January 2018 (EST)
Ok, thanks. Submission approved. Please add some information about it in the note. A different thing: Deutsche Nationalbibliothek states as size of 21cm which would make the format to be "tp" instead of a "pb". Jens Hitspacebar 15:53, 16 January 2018 (EST)
I have no informations about the real size so I will change the pub to tp. Thanks Henna 16:23, 16 January 2018 (EST)

Carl Amery's Der Untergang der Stadt Passau

Hello! A recent discussion on a different title reminded me to check this one: the fiction turned out to be only of novella length and the single publications thus are CHAPBOOKs. Are you okay with the change? Christian Stonecreek 11:10, 18 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Christian, no problem, but I see others:
All publications are presented as novellas. Some old stuff are very short like this. Regards Henna 13:30, 18 January 2018 (EST)
Well, the only one I'm sure about is Farm der Tiere, where I know that Animal Farm also has only shortfiction length. With the others it's only likely (Brothers Strugatsky) - since we don't have original publications, or it seems that only the German translation was abridged to novella length (Anderson). Christian Stonecreek 13:40, 18 January 2018 (EST)

A request for a source

Hello, Henna! Could you look up if there's a source for the story "Geflügelte Taten" by Hermann Heijermans in Der Traumfabrikant (it's to determine if both German publications use the same translation from 1912)? Christian Stonecreek 12:04, 23 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Christian, the translation was taken from H. Heijermans: "Geflügelte Taten". Verlag Egon Fleischel&Co., Berlin 1907. Regards Henna 12:21, 23 January 2018 (EST)
Thanks, than it's bound to be the same: though the other one is stated to be published in 1912, it's from the same publisher. Christian Stonecreek 12:24, 23 January 2018 (EST)

Biblische Geschichten für Erwachsene Nr. 7: Die Sintflut

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. Perhaps is there just a change of # in the german version from #17 to #7 and the story is in fact a translation of this text.Hauck 09:57, 29 January 2018 (EST)

Hello Hervé, I wrote it like in the sources. In the toc on the title page of the story and in the sources it's always #7. Maybe this is a mistake by the editor or translator but what should I do? Thanks for your help Henna 11:35, 29 January 2018 (EST)
It's clearly a mistake from the german publisher as it's truly the #17 that was published in Full Spectrum. I've made the variant. With such cases I sometimes enter in the notes the fact that the translation gives a wrong original title, this is especially interesting here as the german publisher kept the (wrong) #7. Hauck 11:41, 29 January 2018 (EST)

Unusual format = tp

Hello! I'd think this publication qualifies as a tp rather than a pb, doesn't it? Christian Stonecreek 11:06, 4 February 2018 (EST)

Hello Christian, yes you are right this is a tp, I will change the entry. Thanks for the advice Henna 14:27, 4 February 2018 (EST)

Das rote Gasthaus

Hello, I've approde your submission but took the liberty to change the item by Günther Lück from SHORTFICTION to INTERIORART, hope it's OK. Hauck 08:13, 16 February 2018 (EST)

Hello Hervé, thanks for your help. Henna 09:05, 16 February 2018 (EST)

Der Zensor

Hi, I am wondering if Der Zensor (verified by you) is the same pub as the one I own. The pub series number on title page is #2070 but printed on book spine is #5003. The book also has a bigger size (different to the other #2000, same as the other #5000 volumes). I guess the two pubs are identical, aren't they? Boskar 02:11, 25 February 2018 (EST)

Hello Boskar, yes the pubs are identical. Feel free to edit the notes. Thanks for your advice Henna 07:58, 25 February 2018 (EST)
Thank you, Henna! I will update and verify the pub. Boskar 08:15, 25 February 2018 (EST)

Translator

Hello, I'm not privy to the future evolutions of the db but I dimly seem to remember that the systematization of the use of the "Tr" template is partially to allow for a future automatic population of a "translator" field. In this context, I'm not sure that your habit of entering the hyperlink to an author's page in the "Tr" template may not lead to some maintenance afterward. Hauck 14:45, 25 February 2018 (EST)

Hello Hervé, thanks for your hint. This is difficult for me, I only changed the syntax, never the content. Do you think it is better to remove the links? I'm en route next week, see you later and many thanks Henna 15:33, 25 February 2018 (EST)
This is probably no very big deal, don't worry. It's just that such formed "Tr" tags are quite rare (they're present mostly on german books).Hauck 03:21, 26 February 2018 (EST)

Ozeanische Bibliothek

Hello, I'm in the process of updating, verifying (and some correcting) the publications of this series. You may want to especially check on Das Ultimatum, for which I found an extra sheet of paper enclosed, which may or may not be part of your copy: is the illustration also missing? (If so, this sheet may have been lost for your copy). Christian Stonecreek 11:38, 5 March 2018 (EST)

Hello Christian, I have the same extra sheet in my book, the illustration also missing. Regards Henna 15:16, 7 April 2018 (EDT)

Der Herr des Wüstenplaneten

Hi, I had to mess with your verified 29th printing, as you used the code for a 1978 cover image, which in fact isn't the one for that year: there's a slight difference. All seems to be okay now, Christian Stonecreek 05:51, 19 March 2018 (EDT)

Hello Christian, I don't understand your question and what is okay now? Regards Henna 15:31, 7 April 2018 (EDT)
Hi, it was just an information: the two cover images do differ slightly, but your upload used the designation for the first printing from 1978, which my verified publication needed, so I had to delete 'your' image & upload it anew. Christian Stonecreek 07:43, 8 April 2018 (EDT)
Hello Christian, sorry for the trouble and thanks for the fix. I won't revise your cover, everything is okay now. Thanks again Henna 15:03, 8 April 2018 (EDT)

Ready Player One format

Hi Henna, I changed the format of your PV'd Ready Player One from "tp" to "pb". See this discussion on my talk page for the reason (which was about the same kind of change, but for a different publication). Jens Hitspacebar 05:33, 21 March 2018 (EDT)

Hello Jens, thanks for the information. Regards Henna 07:38, 8 April 2018 (EDT)
There are likely more, so don't be surprised if there will be more of this; I just did it for Farm der Tiere. Christian Stonecreek 10:15, 10 April 2018 (EDT)

Mampell's Die Sternenreise

I added notes and the publication series to this publication. Christian Stonecreek 03:32, 10 April 2018 (EDT)

Phantastische Literatur 83

Hi, could you look inside Phatastische Literatur 83 if you have it available? What I'd like to know is, on page 119, is the name of the author Miguel Ángel Asturias printed with or without an accent over the A? Thanks! --Vasha 23:18, 7 June 2018 (EDT)

Hello Vasha, there is no accent. Regards Henna 03:51, 8 June 2018 (EDT)

Kidnapped für den Mars

I had been working on that nice pseudonym you found me and have a quick question. How long exactly is this thing in German? The Russians consider it a novella, not a novel (the serialized version ran for 10 issues, 4 pages each (but these are big pages), the 1986 edition is 242 pages, it is 209 in a later edition so it sounds either as a very long novella or very short novel). I am fine with it being a novel if you think it is long enough - I can note the discrepancy. What do you think? Annie 14:23, 8 June 2018 (EDT)

Hello Annie, word count is a little more than 62.000. Is this enough for a novel? Thanks Henna 14:45, 8 June 2018 (EDT)
Yep, I would call that a novel (the cutoff is at the 40,000 mark - even if we assume the usual 20% (or even 30%) flux between languages, it is still safely a novel in my book). Thanks for checking! I'll note the difference in the designation and will keep it a novel. The Russian split is somewhat different from the standard English/US one :) Annie 14:50, 8 June 2018 (EDT)
OK - Pawel Bagrjak is almost sorted out. I will be adding a few more publications on the Russian side (including more translations) and author details but the correct canonical names are now in place. Annie 20:02, 12 June 2018 (EDT)
Hallo Annie, looks good thanks Henna 13:07, 13 June 2018 (EDT)

Notes formatting

When you are not verifying a book, switching the format of the notes from "text only" to html (ul/li format) or vice versa is considered a bit rude. I personally would not do it even if I am verifying unless I am adding a lot more notes but changing the format just for the sake of format changes should never happen. Thanks for the understanding. Annie 15:34, 13 June 2018 (EDT)

Hallo Annie, I never touch the content. In my opinion the db entries have an evolution in format. Regards Henna 15:44, 13 June 2018 (EDT)
You usually don't. But sometimes you do. Thus my note :) We do not force formats on people and the format very often identify the editor so preserving it makes sense. Annie 15:56, 13 June 2018 (EDT)
I will not change the format from now on. Henna 09:46, 14 June 2018 (EDT)
Thanks for the understanding and for adding all those translations - I never knew that some of those Bulgarian authors were translated into German. :) Annie 12:58, 14 June 2018 (EDT)

Poe's Erzählungen

These seem like new for the DB translations (by Elga Abramowitz) so I am not going to do any merging (in case you ever wondered, I do not merge after approving if we are dealing with translations and I cannot figure out fast enough where they need merging based on the translator - otherwise I just merge the duplicates). Have fun varianting - let me know if you need any assistance :) Annie 14:32, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

Hallo Annie, these are new translations, three stories translated by Elga Abramowitz, the others by seven different translators. I try my best Henna 14:47, 19 June 2018 (EDT)
Figured as much from the DNB record :) Ping me if you need any help. Annie 15:09, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

Thanks for the hint, I have edited the entry. Henna 06:41, 25 June 2018 (EDT)

Genie auf Bestellung

The publication record looks good, but I can't seem to find the Russian originals of the 2 stories by Wladimir Gonik. I have approved the submissions for now, but could you please clarify where the Russian titles and dates come from? Also, are they excerpts or non-genre stories, by chance? TIA! Ahasuerus 16:21, 28 June 2018 (EDT)

Hello, from the sources in the book: The following manuscripts are from WAAP, Moscow: Wladimir Gonik Äskulap und Neptun. Maybe they were not published in Russian. I hope it helps Henna 16:43, 28 June 2018 (EDT)
Thanks for clarifying! "WAAP" or "VAAP" stood for "Vsesoiuznoe agentstvo po avtorskim pravam", i.e. the Soviet copyright agency. Hopefully they didn't confuse Gonik with someone else.
Since there is no evidence that these stories ever appeared in Russian, I think we should handle them the way we handled Борис Смагин's "The Silent Procession" and leave the canonical Russian title untranslated. I have made the changes -- please take a look when you get a chance. Thanks! Ahasuerus 17:10, 28 June 2018 (EDT)

Ins Innere der Erde

Hello Henna,

I have this on hold because if I approve it and you do not have a book containing it, it will show up on the cleanup reports tonight and can be deleted. So why are you creating the variant as opposed to adding the book with it and then varianting? Annie 19:06, 1 July 2018 (EDT)

Same for Atoll Fakaofu. Annie 19:07, 1 July 2018 (EDT)
Hello Annie, why? cause it works, just a test. I will add a publication, promised. Regards Henna 04:47, 2 July 2018 (EDT)
Sorry, but because of the imminent deletion of titles without publications that is not a recommended way of varianting. Christian Stonecreek 05:34, 2 July 2018 (EDT)
As Christian already mentioned - even though it works, it ends up being more trouble than help:
  • If you do not have a publication with them approved before the cleanup reports run, they will be deleted (there is no way to know if this is a new title waiting a publication or a leftover that needs deleting)
  • When adding the publication, you need to wait for it to be approved before you can import these - if you just type their titles, a merge for each title will be needed (ending up with more edits than before)
So the basic rule is "add the publication first, variant when it is approved. I am sure you will add the publication - I am just not sure that these will be still around when you need them for the import if I approve them. If you insist, I still can approve them but don't be too surprised if they are not around when you try to use them. Annie 18:10, 2 July 2018 (EDT)
Hello Annie, thank you for your explanations. Why is this function there? Henna 13:31, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
"Add a Publication" was implemented many years ago, before we had cleanup reports and before the current process was in place. I am not sure if it still has legitimate uses. Perhaps there are scenarios that I am not thinking of? Ahasuerus 13:36, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
"Add a Variant" you mean, right? :) "Add a publication" is still useful :) Annie 13:42, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
Sorry, I meant "Add a Variant". Clearly, I need more performance enhancing drugs... Ahasuerus 13:56, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
None that I had ever found. Should we try starting a discussion about it so we can get it out if we indeed cannot find a reason to have it still around? Just in case we are missing a valid usecase. Annie 13:42, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
Sure, we can do that. Ahasuerus 13:56, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
I should be able to parse the submission table and come up with AddTitle stats, e.g. how frequently it was used in the past vs. the last 12 months, sample submissions, etc. Ahasuerus 13:58, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
Can you do stats for moderators and for non-moderators separately (or as much as possible?)? As there is no risk of leaving an orphan, a moderator may prefer the process AddVariant/Import to the Add titles in the pub/Make Variant - and if we have someone doing that, we need to make sure they are ok with removing it. Annie 14:36, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
Good point; I'll add it to the query logic. Ahasuerus 15:12, 3 July 2018 (EDT)

(unindent) Here are the editors who have successfully used this type of submission more than once in 2018:

+-----------------+--------------+

Do you want to check with PeteYoung and Rtrace to see how they use "Add Variant" and whether they would be adversely affected by its demise? Ahasuerus 15:47, 3 July 2018 (EDT)

Yup, will drop them a note - and then will post on your page so we stop spamming Henna :) Annie 15:52, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
It wouldn't make any real difference to me, it's just another route to the same end result. I've probably added a pub first and then varianted as many times as doing it this way. If the concensus is to drop it then that's fine by me. PeteYoung 22:45, 3 July 2018 (EDT)

Das geheimnisvolle Telegramm

Hi, Would it be possible to obtain more data about this story? Editor Manfred Kluge has -according to this website- more anthologies with a likewise titled story in 15 Spuk Stories. If it is indeed English, might it perhaps be The Telegram by Violet Hunt?--Dirk P Broer 08:22, 17 September 2018 (EDT)

Hello Dirk, here is the preface and the first lines of the story. The story by Violet Hunt is totally different. Henna 09:58, 17 September 2018 (EDT)
Well, it rules out both Anonymus (Known German) and Anonymus (I) (Unknown Japanese) as possible authors. In the meantime I've varianted Anonymus (II) to the more widely used Anonymous.--Dirk P Broer 14:52, 17 September 2018 (EDT)
Thanks! Henna 14:58, 17 September 2018 (EDT)

Der Kriminalrichter

Hi Henna, I'm holding your submission which wants to make Der Kriminalrichter by Honoré de Balzac a variant of Le ministère public by Charles Rabou. Both authors are different people and none is a pseudonym. Is this a mistake, or is this really the story by Charles Rabou, credited to Honoré de Balzac in the German translation? Jens Hitspacebar 16:38, 17 September 2018 (EDT)

Hello Jens, I think the stories Der Kriminalrichter and Die Zaubernacht in den Hochlanden was taken from this pub, which is credited to Honoré de Balzac (for the German translation). The original collection was first published in 1832 in the anonymous collection Contes bruns and contains stories by Balzac, Chasles and Rabou. Cryptic Regards Henna 16:59, 17 September 2018 (EDT)
22 Panik-Stories is a different publication than the one of the book scan at the Google link you provided. I also didn't find anything about Le ministère public by Charles Rabou at the Google link, at least not on the first and last pages of the scan. On which page there is the information about it being the original of Der Kriminalrichter? Jens Hitspacebar 12:10, 18 September 2018 (EDT)
Hello Jens, in the linked German collection all stories credited to Balzac, I know. Take a look to the original collection and compare with the text on pdf-page 6 in the German translation.
If you don't trust me ask Dominique. Regards Henna 14:55, 18 September 2018 (EDT)
PS: I forgot the text from Panik-Stories [14] Henna 15:06, 18 September 2018 (EDT)
I see, now it makes sense. And don't worry, I trust you :) But as a moderator I have to check if a submission makes sense, especially in a complicated case like this. Generally, you can make moderation easier for cases like this if you put some background information and links to your sources in the "Note to Moderator" of the submission. That way, a moderator doesn't have to start searching the internet himself (which can be cumbersome) but can go directly to your sources. Submission is approved now :) I think it could be helpful for other users if you'd add some of this information to the title note of Der Kriminalrichter so that they can easier understand why Der Kriminalrichter is a variant of Le ministère public. Jens Hitspacebar 15:44, 18 September 2018 (EDT)

Gäste aus dem Weltall (Part 1 of 2)

Hi, I'm holding three of your submissions, and the reason will be clear once you correct the price for Gäste aus dem Weltall (Part 1 of 2), a previous submission of a serially published novel. I fear the three held submissions go a same route.--Dirk P Broer 07:56, 27 September 2018 (EDT)

Hello Dirk, I don't understand what is wrong. My goal is to create something like this, but I have no idea how to do it. Thanks for your help Henna 08:41, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
Test! I changed the pub type to magazine and added an uncredited editor for Gäste aus dem Weltall (Part 1 of 2). Do you think this is the right way? Regards Henna 09:15, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
Sorry to chime in, but this doesn't seem to be the right way, since the publications dom't seem to qualify as magazines. I'd say they do look more like one of those (as an example). What do you think? Christian Stonecreek 10:03, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
Looks better, but it still does not win the beauty-contest. Gone is the serialization in your solution.--Dirk P Broer 10:57, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
It looks good here, but a bit odd here.--Dirk P Broer 11:10, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
Hello Dirk, in the example the title inside the digest is without (part x of y), if I understand it right. So we have an non serialized title and three serialized pubs. Confused regards Henna 11:19, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
And one more time: do you think that those publications are magazines? If not, the instalments shouldn't be counted as SERIALs. ... generally a magazine must have a common title from issue to issue, and an enumeration or dating system of some kind (from the help pages). Christian Stonecreek 11:36, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
Hello Christian, this publications are not magazines. The magazine entry is changed back to novel and the serialization is also changed to novel. Regards Henna 11:46, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
I've followed the suggestion by Christian Stonecreek and the two serials are now presented like the Heinlein example.--Dirk P Broer 15:51, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
Hello Dirk, I think this is a good workaround, more not. I will change the Strugazkis and I added a split novella by Fradkin. Thanks Henna 03:54, 28 September 2018 (EDT)

Die Feuer von Azeroth

Hi Henna, you added "maps by Erhard Ringer" to Die Feuer von Azeroth, which is primary-verified by someone else, but didn't provide a data source for it. Where does the information come from? Jens Hitspacebar 07:46, 17 March 2019 (EDT)

Hello Jens, the informations are from a scan [15]. Regards Henna 09:13, 18 March 2019 (EDT)
Ok. The scan looks quite odd and not really like the original copyright page, because the font is a lot bigger than the usual font used on Heyne's copyright pages. Also, the scan doesn't state "Printed in Germany 1982" (information which Christian added to the pub after your submission). Is it from an ebook or OCR scan? Anyway:
  • Please always add state the data source either in the record's note or in the "note to moderator", especially if it's a record which is primary-verified by someone else but not by you.
  • Don't forget to inform the primary verifier on his or her talk page if you add images or notes, even if the user seems to be inactive (like it seems to be in this case).
I'll add some infos to the note to make clear which data came from the primary verifier and which was added later by others. Thanks, JensHitspacebar 14:56, 18 March 2019 (EDT)
Hello Jens, the page is from an OCR scan. I have informed Dondai that I have added a line in the notes. Regards Henna 11:21, 19 March 2019 (EDT)

Crichton's Sphere

Hello, Henna! I'm sorry for rejecting the second Goldman edition for 2005: I just saw that there was indeed another one. If you still like to, please re-submit. Christian Stonecreek 06:50, 8 April 2019 (EDT)

Publication series

Hi, Henna! You regularly seem to miss out on the respective publication series. At least up to the end of the last century the vast majority of German paperback publishers grouped their books into different series, and there is still a considerable amount of them who still do it. Thanks, Stonecreek 03:16, 11 April 2019 (EDT)

Hello Christian, when I‘am not sure, I leafe the pub series blank. In the case of Crichton Ullstein Bücher or Ullstein Krimi and Scherz Action-Krimi or Scherz Shoker. Regards Henna 15:00, 1 May 2019 (EDT)
Well, when you use DNB: this source usually notes the series and it's safe to depend on it. Christian Stonecreek 23:57, 1 May 2019 (EDT)

Bilder der Nacht

I've put three of your submissions on hold while I ask Rtrace about the so-called "Introduction" in his verified pub. Please feel free to quiz the contributor when you find what you think is an error like this, it's the polite thing to do. You want to make the correction before you try to make the variant. Bob 17:11, 28 May 2019 (EDT)

Hi. For your submission that I have on hold, why do you want to change the date on the Ein Dämon wollte Hochzeit machen cover from 1995 to 1994? The only publication appearance we have for it is 1995, which claims to be a first edition, so 1995 looks correct to me for that translation. Thanks. --MartyD 06:45, 12 June 2019 (EDT)

Hello Marty, Christian sets the date of the cover art to the first publication of the cover, I've only adopted this method. Regards Henna 07:20, 12 June 2019 (EDT)
Hmm. That is odd. I will check with him and see why that is. --MartyD 07:45, 13 June 2019 (EDT)
He explained it. At his suggestion, I have started a Rules and Standards discussion about this treatment, if you are interested. I will keep the submission on hold while waiting to see what happens there. --MartyD 19:01, 14 June 2019 (EDT)
I apologize for the very long delay. The result of the discussion is that the normal variant dating rules should be applied (so a new variation gets the date of the first appearance of that variation) for coverart records. Something else will be done to handle the provenance of the image itself and the original date. So I am going to reject that proposed change and leave the date the way it is. --MartyD 12:14, 26 June 2019 (EDT)

Cover image

Hello and FYI! I assume that you added the cover of your verified third paperback printing Der Tod ist ein einsames Geschäft to the first printing as well. I've just verified the first printing and had to delete the cover. The cover of the first paperback printing corresponds in fact with the hardcover image. Regards Rudolf Rudam 08:24, 15 July 2019 (EDT)

Hello Rudolf, thanks for the correction. I will add a better cover. Regards Henna 12:37, 15 July 2019 (EDT)

Die Tür

Hi Henna,

While approving all the language changes and variants, I added the translators to all the German poems here and fixed the capitalization of the English titles (As per the rules for English language titles). Can you check one title for me: Saint Joan of Are on a Postcard - I capitalized Postcard but the rest is as I found it - and looks weird. Any chance that this Are is supposed to be Orleans? Thanks! Annie 15:34, 19 July 2019 (EDT)

Hello Anni, sorry for the hassle with the capitalization, I copied the titles from there. Are is an OCR error and should be Arc. Thanks for adding the translator, that would be my next step. Thanks again Henna 16:14, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
I know - but I was around the titles anyway so decided to just add the translator while I was around :) As for the capitalization - we have our own capitalization rules in ISFDB - which are per language. :) Annie 16:55, 19 July 2019 (EDT)

Alraune

Hello,

Did you hit Edit instead of Clone here or am I missing what you are trying to do? Annie 19:48, 25 July 2019 (EDT)

Hello Annie, yes, I did and wondered why I couldn't verify the book :) Thanks for the advice Henna 02:47, 26 July 2019 (EDT)

Vier Asse

Hi, in your submission of Vier Asse there was 'Epilog' by George R. R. Martin. Could that be the translation of 'Epilogue: Third Generation' by Lewis Shiner and, if so: is it really credited to George R. R. Martin in the German translation?--Dirk P Broer 06:32, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

Hello Dirk, Epilog is the translation of Interlude One. Regards Henna 07:02, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

Die Unbesiegbaren

We had the same thought in literally the same second :) I was merging an English version of the novel and saw that the German one did not have a translator added :) Annie 14:43, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

Just luck I think :) Annie 15:09, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

Das Lied des Eisdrachen

Fixed the interior artist in this one -- see the last note in the Notes. :) Annie 14:46, 15 October 2019 (EDT)

Hallo Annie, thank you for your particular attention, I didn't see the different names. Regards Henna 15:04, 15 October 2019 (EDT)
I recognized the artist name (he is kinda popular) so went digging to see who make a typo - turned out to be DNB :) Annie 15:22, 15 October 2019 (EDT)

Biochips

Hello! I've just added the third printing of Biochips. My copy of the third printing counts 334 pages (last page is unnumbered). Is it correct that your verified tenth printing has only 332 pages? Rudolf Rudam 13:03, 9 November 2019 (EST)

Hello Rudolf, the novel ends on page 332 (last page is unnumbered), followed by four ad-pages. There is a toc on pp. 7/8 and the novel starts on p. 9. Regards Henna 11:58, 10 November 2019 (EST)
That's strange. In my book is also the toc on pp 7/8 and the novel starts on p.9. It seems that two pages vanished. Rudolf Rudam 14:50, 10 November 2019 (EST)
Hello Rudolf, the toc dosn't fit to the page count in my printing. The chapter 22 (Jammers) starts on p. 225 like in the toc. The chapter 23 (Dem Ziel näher) starts on p. 236 instead of p. 238 in the toc. Please take a look. Thanks Henna 15:25, 10 November 2019 (EST)
I found the reason! In my copy is on page 235 and 236 an additional advertising from "Maggi 5 Minuten Terrine"!!!! Chapter 23 starts on page 238! Problem solved. Thanks for your help! Cheers Rudolf Rudam 15:56, 10 November 2019 (EST)

Die verschwundene Insel

Seems like you saw the Interiorart type while I had the note to you written and never posted :) Thanks for fixing it. I also added transliteration and link to the Russian story. Annie 16:46, 10 November 2019 (EST)

Hello Annie, always pretty to work together. Thanks Henna 17:01, 10 November 2019 (EST)
It is so much easier when they do not pile up and get handled when they are added.I saw that you had been adding a lot of Russian translations - I probably should follow up and add their originals... Are you working off a list? :) Annie 17:20, 10 November 2019 (EST)
Hallo Annie, I try to filter the fiction titles from this list. Regards Henna 17:50, 10 November 2019 (EST)
Perfect. I will add it to my list of things to do and will see if I can flesh out the Russian authors a bit more. We need to start somewhere anyway so... Annie 17:52, 10 November 2019 (EST)

Der zehnte Planet

Hello! You add in your submission of the chapbook Der zehnte Planet a Nachwort. What is your source? I can't find it in DNB. Rudolf Rudam 08:18, 11 November 2019 (EST)

Hello Rudolf, I have a good scan. Nachwort on pp. 62-63. Regards Henna 08:33, 11 November 2019 (EST)
I've just found in this book Die grosse illustrierte Bibliographie der Science Fiction in der DDR that the Nachwort (afterword) was written by S. Beljajew. Regards Rudolf Rudam 08:49, 11 November 2019 (EST)
Hello Rudolf, thanks for the advice. Henna 13:09, 11 November 2019 (EST)

Rauhreif auf Palmen

Let's talk about this. We have two publications:

If I approve your edits (or the merge yesterday - I assumed it is a mistake and you were trying to variant up for example), they will have the same name. Is the complete novel printed in both of them? Or is it split between the two volumes? If it is split, we use the brackets to show that (we can add a note that they are not presented on the title page and are added here for disambiguation - think of what we do for serials or introductions or authors with the same name) and the two parts need to be varianted into the complete novel. If it published in its entirety in both issues, then we need to indeed change and merge. Let me know. Thanks! Annie 14:05, 15 November 2019 (EST)

Hello Annie, this is a workaround for serialization which are not have published in magazines, we have discussed it here. You have merged the two parts of this novella: Der Höhenrekord a few days ago, so I thought this is the right way. When you think the solution is not ok please clear this up with the other moderators. Sorry for the hassle and thanks for your patience Henna 15:33, 15 November 2019 (EST)
Oops. If I merged, then it is my bad - I missed it. Apologies - I will be more careful in the future. And you are right, we need to clear that up - I remember the old discussion on de-facto serialization outside of magazines and I remember even moderating some last year. Every other language uses the standard with separate titles (see Dune). Let me compose a message and put it on the portals. Let's keep these on the board until we decide what we are doing. Sorry for the confusion. :) Annie 16:04, 15 November 2019 (EST)

Novella vs Novel

Hi Henna,

We treat novellas and novels slightly differently (always fun)-- the split novel rule is for novels. Let me get back to you on the novellas over the weekend and I will fix that last one if needed. Annie 11:55, 22 November 2019 (EST)

Transparentia Okularia

It seems the authors of this title could be wrong typewrited. I guess both of them have the same surname? --Zapp 15:51, 26 January 2020 (EST)

Bertelsmann book club publications

Hi! The handling of Bertelsmann book club publications is resp. was a muddle, the pubs were distributed over 3 publishers: Bertelsmann Lesering, Club Bertelsmann and RM Buch und Medien Vertrieb GmbH. After having a communication with Stonecreek, now there are 2 Bertelsmann publishers: Bertelsmann / Book Sales Clubs for the club editions and C. Bertelsmann for the trade editions (also see publisher notes). You are the primary verifier of one or more affected book club publications. I am going to change the publisher to Bertelsmann / Book Sales Clubs. If you don't agree please let me know. Boskar 09:48, 9 February 2020 (EST)

Jules Verne translations

I have been documenting the various translations of Jules Verne's works and trying to identify a piece of text from each translation so editors can position their publications under the correct title record. You are on record as a primary verifier for one or more publications for which I am looking for text or which are placed under a generic translation title. I would be grateful if you could assist in this by checking your copies, as listed below, and providing the initial text for missing translations or an indication of the translation for those unspecified. These are listed on the Jules Verne Translations wiki. Thank you. ../Doug H 15:16, 18 April 2020 (EDT)

Thank you for the updates. We'll never get them all, but every bit helps. I've added your text to the associated titles, so the records is in the ISFDB database. I view the wiki page as more of an index than primary source. ../Doug H 11:04, 10 May 2020 (EDT)

Der kleine Prinz

Der kleine Prinz is a bit too short to be a novel (14K words) so it is getting converted to a chapbook. Your verified is one of the records that are getting changed. Annie 14:25, 8 May 2020 (EDT)

Die Farbe der Zeit oder ganz zu

Hello Henna,

Can you check your verified. Is the title "Die Farbe der Zeit" or "Die Farben der Zeit" (as the cover)? A typo or difference between the title page and the cover? Thanks! Annie 02:28, 2 June 2020 (EDT)

I approved the change based on OCLC, DNB and the cover. If the title page is different, do not hesitate to change it back. Annie 23:21, 9 June 2020 (EDT)
Hello Annie, thanks for finding my typo and fixed him. Henna 16:21, 17 June 2020 (EDT)

Unheimliche Erscheinungsformen auf Omega 11

Regarding this edit: It looks like it is correct as given. You are editing the parent record whose pubs are all that title. There is already a "Unheimliche Erscheinungsformen auf Omega XI" variant for the two pubs that use "XI" instead if "11". Unless you are indicating that the original edition also used "XI"? In which case all the pubs would need to be updated also. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:40, 20 July 2020 (EDT)

Hello, on the title page of the third printing is "XI" stated, instead of "11". In my opinion the correct title of all books is Unheimliche Erscheinungsformen auf Omega XI, the DNB entry is confusing. Henna 04:56, 21 July 2020 (EDT)
Hello! i own the 3rd printing of Unheimliche Erscheinungsformen auf Omega XI. Unheimliche Erscheinungsformen auf Omega XI is credited on the title page. Someone has added this wrong title. Rudolf Rudam 14:43, 21 July 2020 (EDT)
The edit has been approved & the publications have been corrected. Thank you both. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:26, 21 July 2020 (EDT)
Also thank you both. Henna 05:40, 22 July 2020 (EDT)

Begegnung

Regarding this edit: Is "(excerpt from Tore zur Nacht)" on the title page of the story in the pub itself? We only add "(excerpt)" if the excerpt is identically titled to the work it is taken from. If the works excerpt has a different title, it should not have anything added to the title (though it would be good to add "Excerpt of WORK NAME" to the title notes field. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:25, 30 September 2020 (EDT)

Hello, I understand. Should "Begegnungen" be a variant of "Tore zur Nacht"? Thanks Henna 16:42, 30 September 2020 (EDT)
No, variants are for the same work under a different title / author name. For other differences like this, we are limited to using the title notes. I accepted you title note updated and edited it to add a link to the original work. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:04, 30 September 2020 (EDT)

Der Opal

Hi, Henna. Your primary-verified record for Der Opal states "First printing". I just got a copy myself and can't find any printing info in it. Was "First printing" probably just an assumption you entered for your copy, or is it really stated there? Jens Hitspacebar

Hello Jens, it is not stated as first printing. I have changed the notes to Apparent first printing. Thanks for your advice Henna 13:11, 28 May 2021 (EDT)
Thanks. Approved and primary-verified it myself as well :) Jens Hitspacebar 13:19, 28 May 2021 (EDT)

New artist

Hello Henna! I hold your submission, because you want to add a new artist to this pub Neunzehnhundertvierundachtzig. But you haven't included a reference from where you got this information. Regards Rudolf Rudam 07:22, 12 June 2021 (EDT)

Hello Rudolf, I found this offer on booklooker.de. I dont know how to reference to an temorary information. Thanks Henna 05:39, 13 June 2021 (EDT)
Hello Henna! Good catch! But I have't found the artist in your link but here. I think it is sufficient if you add the link in the field note to moderator with the remark temporary. Regars Rudolf Rudam 10:42, 13 June 2021 (EDT)

Hi, Henna! As Eschbach's homepage states June of 2001 as month of publication I intend to put the later printings of that year after that date, and I'd like to set your verified second one to July (with an accompanying note). I'll wait for the weekend to pass. Regards, Christian Stonecreek 04:46, 27 August 2021 (EDT)

Hello Christian, this is ok for me. Please change the price from the first printing to DM 23.47. Thanks Henna 06:47, 29 August 2021 (EDT)

Latest updates

Henna,

There are no changes in these last 2 updates you sent. What are you trying to do? Annie 03:35, 14 October 2021 (EDT)

Hello Annie, I try to remove the hidden "-" in the authors name. Henna 03:39, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
That is a two step process. Step 1: Add a fake character (1 at the end of the name for example). When approved, remove it - the new fix will take care of it. Because it is a non-printable character, the single step way fails more often than not - it submits a no-update. Let me help - I will clear up the authors in that book for you. Annie 03:49, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
I think I got them all. If I missed any, do the two step thingie (and explain in the moderator note). We fixed the directory records today but apparently a few of the actual author names were missed :) Annie 03:59, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
Thanks, but I see now the titles are also missformed i.e. "Jus-ti-ne im Klos-ter Sain-te-Ma-rie-des-Bois". I think it is better to wait for the automatic repair. Messy greetings Henna 04:07, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
Ah. these also need to be fixed. The automation only fixes things when they get saved with a change. Let me see what I can do with the titles. Annie 04:20, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
I think I got them all. Can you check? My browser is being too helpful for me ;) Annie 04:24, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
I have checked all by copying the titles in a document. Many thanks for your help Henna 04:36, 14 October 2021 (EDT)

Dating of excepts

We date the excerpts as any other title - first appearance under that name of that specific text. So this remains a 1970 text and not 1840. The 1840 goes into the notes to date the complete text. Hope that makes sense. Annie 13:35, 14 October 2021 (EDT)

Ok, I understand. Henna 14:16, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
About this one. When changing the date to an earlier one, we need a note explaining where the date comes from OR the book it is published (if you are going to be adding that later, add at least a moderator not explaining that). Can you elaborate? Thanks! Annie 13:38, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
The bibliography in the book stated: BAUDELAIRE, CH., Die Blumen des Bösen, Übertr. von Carl Fischer, Neuwied/Berlin 1966. In the DNB the edition in 1966 is the 5th printing, so the date is wrong. The first printing I have found is in 1955. I think this is too much trouble, nobody research the first German translation of a Baudelaire poem on isfdb, so we set the date back to 1970. Thanks for your explanation Henna 14:16, 14 October 2021 (EDT)
You never know, we can get a Baudelaire fan one day. :) The basic rule is that if a date of a title is different from the date of the first publication that lists it, we must have a note explaining that earlier date. We'd much prefer to have that first publication of course - but a note is also acceptable. Otherwise, someone finding the record in a few years will scratch their head wondering where this date came from - it literally looks like we make up dates out of thin air. Hope that makes sense :) Annie 14:21, 14 October 2021 (EDT)

Dune excerpt

Great find, Henna! I pasted through the novel but couldn't find this excerpt. Can you still remember where it is about to be found? Christian Stonecreek 07:42, 2 December 2021 (EST)

Hello Christian, the text is on p. 16 in this edition. In English: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. Henna 08:13, 2 December 2021 (EST)
Thanks! I will look it up and read a part of the larger context as well. Christian Stonecreek 08:53, 2 December 2021 (EST)

Bis zum Nullpunkt des Seins

A few small things:

  • A very gentle reminder that we have an Import functionality which can save us the 13 merges I had to do. I don't usually care if we need to merge a handful of titles but 13 is a very good candidate for Importing them actually. :)
  • Is this an essay or a short fiction? Because we have an essay with this name.

The result is here. Thanks for adding it. Annie 19:26, 6 December 2021 (EST)

Self-approving

Hi Henna,

Would you be interested in being able to self-approve your own submissions? That won't change anything else for you except that you won't need to wait for someone to get to your submissions. I had not seen any issues with your work in a long time, you finish what you start and you tend to stick to things you know and not do wild changes all over the place so I will be comfortable supporting your application for self-approving if you want to do that :) If you decide to, post in Community Support to get the ball rolling. Annie 13:26, 28 January 2022 (EST)

Hello Annie, sorry for the late reply. I was on holiday last week. Many thanks for your trust in me. I will write a note next week. Thanks again Henna 15:01, 6 February 2022 (EST)
Hope you had a nice holiday! :) Annie 16:01, 6 February 2022 (EST)
Hello Annie, yes we had a wonderful week in Italy for skiing. Henna 15:53, 7 February 2022 (EST)

Outcome

The self-approver flag has been set. Congratulations!

From now on, creating a submission will take you to the "Approve/Reject" Web page which will let you approve your own submissions. Please note that any pending submissions created in the past (if there are any) will need to be approved by a moderator. Ahasuerus 15:40, 13 February 2022 (EST)

Check your pending edits please

You have a few unapproved on the board :) As a self-approver, it is a good idea to keep an eye on your pending list and to deal with whatever needs handling at the end of the day or thereabouts. Moderators can approve for you if you ask but these do not seem like they were left on purpose so I will leave them to you. :) Annie 01:32, 16 February 2022 (EST)

Hello Annie, thanks for your advice. I will keep an eye to the list of pending edits. Thanks again Henna 12:32, 16 February 2022 (EST)

Titles in Wiki

Hi Henna,

A bit of housekeeping :) When you use {{T|ID|Title}} in the title of a message, you make the positional addressing impossible - as the text that is shown in the browser is different from what is in the entry so the positional cannot work. See This History page for example: Click on the -> before your last edit and see how it sends you at the top of the page. Annie 19:54, 8 March 2022 (EST)

Hello Annie, thanks for your advise. Henna 08:24, 9 March 2022 (EST)
