Welcome!

Hello, HarmsworthAG, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:35, 21 August 2022 (EDT)

The Visitor

I accepted your addition of The Visitor, but had to make changes to match our standards:

  • Synopsis: The synopsis should be a short, neutrally written description. When quoting a synopsis from another source, it should be in quotes and the source provided. As the author, I assume you wrote the description so it's a bit of a special case, but we would still prefer it be sourced. I add the source as your website and removed the promotional parts.
  • Date: You entered the date of the ebook but the ISBN of the print edition. I updated the date to match the print edition (see the Note field below also).
  • Binding/Format: I changed the format from "A5" to "tp". The ISFDB uses a specific set of values. I used "tp" (for trade paperback) based on the dimensions supplied by Amazon.
  • ISBN: Only the number should be entered in this field.
  • Price: Prices need to be entered with the currency symbol as we deal in multiple currencies.
  • Pub Series: The ISFDB differentiates publisher series (publisher level series like Ballantine Adult Fantasy) from title series (universe or groupings of books independent of publisher like Dune Universe). I removed the pub series and moved it to the title series.
  • Image: We can only use images from sites that have explicitly given us permission to do so. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for a list of such sites. As you own the site you linked to, you could give us permission to use it. However, that requires a (minor) software change. As the image is available on Amazon I just switched over to that as it is easier.
  • Note: We record each format separately. I removed the "Available as eBook, paperback and audiobook" and created separate records for the other 2 formats.

And regarding your questions in the note to moderator:

  1. Yes, you can enter your own publications. The ISFDB allows authors to enter their own works as long as the works meet the inclusion criteria (so only your speculative fiction) and you follow our standards.
  2. The interview and reviews sections are for interviews and reviews within the publication and not about the publication. It is most frequency used for magazine book review columns.

ISFDB has some conventions that need learning so please check out the help links in the welcome message above. And let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:35, 21 August 2022 (EDT)
