Author pseudonym recording

Hello. Just an FYI - if you record an author and his or her pseudonym/alternate name, then you not only have to variant the titles, but also have to link both names with the 'Make/remove alternate name' menu item on the left that appears when you've selected the alternate-name record. I've done that for you for the Tibor Bihon <-> Robert Knight (Hungary) relationship. Also, the canonical author name is the name with which he or she is most well known. In this case, Tibor Bihon should be recorded as the alternate name of Robert Knight (Hungary) - the opposite of what it is right now. Let me know by replying to this message (the small 'edit' to the right of this message's title) if you need assistance with switching the relationship around. Hi ! I think I would be able to switch the relationship, but I'm not sure that it would be the best decision. Bihon Tibor used more pseudonyms in his publications. Robert Knight is only one of them. And besides the pseudonyms he also used his real name in some publications. So it is hard to tell which is the best known name. Gabcisoft 13:40, 28 May 2021 (EDT)

I saw the Péter Zsoldos entry in the database, and I wanted to merge the authors, but I was not sure which name should be the canonical name. In Hungary hi is kmown as Zsoldos Péter, but in the rest of the World probably Péter Zsoldos form is better known.

There is a similliar situation with Fekete Gyula .I also added a book of him to do database while there is an entry for Gyula Fekete Gabcisoft 13:18, 5 June 2021 (EDT)

A tenger tigrisei / Tigers of the Sea

Thanks for the clarification! I have rejected the original submission and linked the 2012 translation to the 1974 SHORTFICTION record. Do you happen to know if the 1990 Hungarian translation, which is present in another one of your verified publications, was done by a different translator?

Also, after approving this submission, I moved the cover scan URL from the Catalog ID field to the Image URL field. Ahasuerus 18:09, 21 July 2021 (EDT)

The 1990 publication is a translation done by Nemes István, but the translations are not identical. I'm not sure if I should merge them. Gabcisoft 09:20, 24 July 2021 (EDT)

Cover art for 'Atlantisz fantasztikus magazin, June 1990'

Hi, I have just seen your entry and the cover art is definitely not by Alan Craddock. Les Edwards did that picture and it is available here. Does the magazine actually credit Craddock? If so, then please also make a corresponding remark in the notes. Thanks. And I have also varianted the cover for the May edition to it's first publication. I checked it again. The magazin credits the artwork to Craddock . Should I change the artist name and put a note that in the magazin it is credited to Craddock , or leave the artist name as it is in the magazin and make a note with the correct artist name ?Gabcisoft 18:53, 24 July 2021 (EDT)

A note on price format

Hello. Just an FYI - prices are with space after Ft and with , as thousandth separator, and . as decimal separator per the rules. See here. The relevant text is

Period (".") should be used as the decimal separator and comma (",") as the thousands separator, regardless of currency or native number format. E.g., €7.80 or Lit 1,000. Do not enter a space when the currency is represented by a symbol (e.g. $, £, €, ¥, ℳ). When using an alphabetical (non-symbolic) form or abbreviation of the currency (e.g. DM, Lit, Ft), a space should be added between it and the numeric amount.

Közszolgálat as author was a typo. This story was writen by Megan Lindholm ( a pseudonym of Robin Hobb ) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gabcisoft (talk • contribs) .

Great job adding the template here However, we need it in the TITLE note - it is ok if you want to add it to the publication one, but we really need it on the title one as well. When you are adding a new book, there are two parts of the screen - the title one at the top and the publication one under it. We need the translator in the title note (the one higher on the screen). Book size

Are you sure that all of these books are "pb"? "pb" is used for American style mass market paperbacks. Anything bigger is "tp" in the DB. The way to figure out what to use is to look at dimensions - if the book is 19 cm x 11.5 cm (or bigger on one of the sides), it is "tp". Thanks! Annie 18:33, 29 September 2021 (EDT)

Price format

Hello,

You will see a lot of your books changed in the next few days - we are cleaning up the price field to be per the ISFDB policy - which is to follow the same format regardless of which currency is used or what the local convention is. In the case of the Hungarian books, that means "Ft Y,YYY.ZZ" format (Currency first, then space, dot used as a decimal separator and comma used for the thousands separator. Examples: Ft 1,200 ; Ft 7.50 ; Ft 345 ; Ft 1,200.50 and so on. Please let me know if you have any questions and apologies for us missing that for so long while you were adding books. Kristályszilánk

Ezüst erek

Your submission for Ezüst erek had the same invalid ISBN problem, but I found a couple of Hungarian sites that listed it with a different ISBN (using 7041 instead of 9474). So I put the original ISBN in the notes and used the valid one from the other sources. Cover Image Uploading

Cover images should be uploaded using the "Upload new cover scan" option on the publication. If you are adding a new publication, you should wait for the publication to be added and then upload it using the link. The link will properly name the image as well as apply the correct templates. I downloaded the image you uploaded to Image:Covers_442036.jpg, re-uploaded it correctly, and then deleted the original. In the future, please use the upload link.
