Welcome!

Hello, FlaSheridn, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 16:23, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Bridging the Galaxies by Niven

I'm holding your submission which adds a note to this pub that the record incorrectly paginates the contents. It's better to actually make the corrections to the record and then do a primary verification (if you have the book) so that we know the source of the data. The note itself doesn't correct anything, it only points out the error. That sort of contribution should be made on the community pages of this wiki, not in the database record itself. You can respond here on your user talk page, or make another submission correcting the mistaken pagination. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 16:29, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

It appears that our data comes from the Locus Index, which is not infallible. Mhhutchins 16:33, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
The record here correctly paginates the contents; it’s the table of contents in the book that’s wrong. FlaSheridn 16:38, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I misread the note. Your submission has been accepted. Thanks. Mhhutchins 22:12, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Dates for "A Columbus of Space"

Hi. I don't necessarily agree with it myself, but I believe the dating on the "A Columbus of Space" serializations and novel are in accordance with ISFDB policy. Serializations carry the date of appearance (unless a reprint of an earlier serialization), and the book-length title record carries the date of first book publication. This practice predates my involvement, so I have no insight into any discussion around it that might have taken place. See Help:Use_of_the_SERIAL_type#Date_Rule for an explanation. In light of that, I am going to reject your proposed date change on the first installment of the 1926 serialization. But I will keep it on hold to give you a chance to respond. Thanks. --MartyD 03:58, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

I am going through with the rejection. If you see this and believe it should be otherwise, please let me know. I tried to send you mail, but your account isn't configured to let me do that. Thanks. --MartyD 02:29, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Ouch, I disagree with the policy as well. The distinction is particularly needed for early Amazings, since Gernsback doesn’t always make it clear when he’s reprinting. (He briefly starred new stories in the Table of Contents, but soon gave up.)
I fixed the mail setting, sorry.
