Welcome!

Hello, Fabius, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 12:30, 11 June 2023 (EDT)

The Depths Unleashed, Book 2

I accepted your addition of The Depths Unleashed, Book 2, but had to make the following changes:

  • For an anthology, the publication authors should be the editors. I updated the editors to match the Amazon Look Inside.
  • We do not record page numbers for an ebook.
  • We do not use web page links to link to book stores. The software will automatically generate links to Amazon and other sellers based on the ISBN (when present) or ASIN.
  • I added the ISBN.
  • I added the cover image from Amazon.
  • I added the contents.
  • You gave the source as the publisher's website. However, the publisher's website only lists volumes 1-3. I changed the source to Amazon.
  • I updated the series to Unleashed Anthology to separate it from other Unleased series.

We appreciate your submission & hope you will continue to contribute. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning so please check out the help links in the welcome message above. And let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 12:49, 11 June 2023 (EDT)

Horror Library, Volume 8

Hi. I accepted your submission for Horror Library, Volume 8. I made some small changes I wanted you to be aware of for future submissions, and I have a couple of questions about some of the contents, which may need further tweaking. First the minor changes:

  • Unless we have two people with identical names, we do not include a person's role or occupation as part of their name in the credit on the book. So I changed "Eric J. Guinard (editor)" to just "Eric J. Guinard". If we had two different people named Eric J. Guinard, one strictly an author and one strictly an editor, then we might use "Eric J. Guinard (author)" and "Eric J. Guinard (editor)" as their names, but that is strictly to disambiguate between people, not to identify their role for any specific credit. If you are curious, see Help:How_to_separate_two_authors_with_the_same_name
  • When using Amazon image links, the formatting instructions that Amazon usually embeds in the links must be removed. So instead of 'https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71KP9T+64EL._SL1360_.jpg we use https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71KP9T+64EL.jpg. See the "Amazon" bullet in Help:Screen:NewPub#Image_URL.
  • In prices, don't include a space between the currency symbol and the number (software is picky, I don't know why). So "$ 16.95" -> "$16.95".

Now the questions:

  • Does the book include the trailing "(A Poem)" on In Fear as Dark as Coal (A Poem)? The content listing on the Dark Moon site does not, but it also does not include an "About the Editor" that you included, so I assume you have a copy of the book. We assign titles types, so there is no need to include type information in a title. Also, we want to record the title exactly as presented on the piece's title page (which may not be the way it is presented in the TOC).
  • About Editor, Eric J. Guinard seems a little off. It is "About THE Editor"? Does it acually include ", Eric J. Guinard"? Again, we would record the title exactly as presented in the book. For a generic content title such as "About the Editor" we disambiguate by including the publication title parenthetically. So "About the Editor (Horror Library, Volume 8)". Also, is authorship of it explicitly credited to Guinard? It would be a little unusual for a self-written bio blurb to be credited to the writer. If it is not credited to (explicitly or via separate copyright statement) to him, then we would use "uncredited" for the author. If some secondary source of information lets us know that he did write it, then we would make a variant of the "uncredited"-credited title to a Guinard-credited title and document there what source was used to identify him as author.

Please answer those last two questions. If you'd like to fix things up yourself, go right ahead. Otherwise, I am happy to do it once I know what needs to be done. You can reply here -- edit this section and indent your response another level by adding ":" to the front (one colon per level of indentation).

Thanks, and thank you for contributing. --MartyD (talk) 08:49, 23 July 2023 (EDT)

I have access to the ARC & am in possession of my contributor's hard copy of the book. Both items are as I have submitted them. I am attaching a screen shot of the TOC which should clear this up. (I don't come up with the titles, just reproducing them as they come to me! Lol)

PS--I don't think I did this correctly. At least, it is not showing up here as I envisioned. Let me know if you can see the TOC and/or suggest another way I can send this to you. Thank you, --Garick
That's ok. I see it, thanks. And looks like those are both fine, then. Thank you for following up! p.s. If you have the book, please consider making yourself a Primary Verifier (go here and click Verify This Publication in the Editing Tools section at the left, or if you'd like a shortcut, click here. Choose one of the two options at the top. If you own the book and expect to keep it, use the Permanent option. If you briefly have a copy and do not expect to keep it, choose the Transient option. It helps us to know that an actual person got information directly out of a physical copy. (You are not obligated to do this, it's just a suggestion/request). --MartyD (talk) 12:37, 23 July 2023 (EDT)

Stupefying Stories

I think that you were trying to add this story with this submission. Webzines are only eligible when they produce "issues" or qualify under other rules (such as awards winning for example) - see the rules. So complete issues of this magazine will be eligible (see here for the ones we already have) but the free stories posted in this section are not. However, as we already had the record of the story, I added the link to it here. Let me know if you have any questions. Annie (talk) 20:37, 6 February 2024 (EST)
