Sorry - with rare exceptions I give away or trash everything I read. I can't answer your question other than to say that I'm pretty careful with my entries, particularly titles.

Removal of page content

I would have hoped that you had moved the content to an archive page before deleting it. This would have made it easier for those who had asked questions and recorded comments to check their status. Please reconsider the decision. Thanks. Mhhutchins 05:25, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I have created an archive of the old content in anticipation of the upcoming purge of old versions. Ahasuerus 23:26, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

The Halloween Tree cover upload

You uploaded a cover for The Halloween Tree at more or less the same time as you edited the pub record to add the artists' names, and before a moderator could approve the change. That meant that the automated upload did not catch the artist's names and I had to edit Image:BKTG21540.jpg manually to properly record the artists on the image page. In future it would be best to wait for any artist change to be approved before using "upload new cover" unless you are willing to edit the image page yourself. -DES Talk 16:41, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

edit to The Fury Out of Time

Hi. Don't know if you can see your submission. I've placed it on hold in case you can. It contains no changes to The Fury Out of Time. Your two other submissions around that time added ISFDB-hosted cover images, so I'm guessing maybe you were doing that here and hit Enter without pasting the URL? --MartyD 17:10, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

I've rejected the submission due to lack of response here. I hope the info above will be enough to help you figure out what you intended. Thanks. --MartyD 00:05, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

The Shadow of Ararat - made notation etc.

Afternoon! This. [6]. I matched my copy to your ver and then added notation, including that my edition was not affected by note. Thanks, Harry. --Dragoondelight 21:49, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Notifications

I REALLY REALLY wish that you would notify verifiers when you add cover images or other content to primary-verified publications. It is a courtesy and the normal practice here, as you should know. -DES Talk 03:26, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Flames Across the Border: 1813-1814

You submitted an entry for Flames Across the Border: 1813-1814 which you listed as NONGENRE. However, it appears to be in fact NONFICTION, this is a straight work of history about a section of the War of 1812 between Canada and the US. The author currently has only one work on file at the ISFDB, and his wikipedia page lists him as primarily a writer of non-faction. This book appears to be OUT according to the Rules of Acquisition #10. If rhere is any reason for including the work, please post it here. -DES Talk 18:34, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Rejected after lack of response. -DES Talk 05:12, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Chung Kuo: Book Eight: The Marriage of the Living Dark

You submitted a publication of Chung Kuo: Book Eight: The Marriage of the Living Dark. This apears to be a duplicate of 267262, so i am rejecting it. -DES Talk 18:44, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Beneath the Tree of Heaven

You submitted an edit which added a cover image to Beneath the Tree of Heaven and also added it to a new publication series, "Chung Kuo". The book is already part of a regular (title) series "Chung Kuo", and should not be made part of a publication series. See Help: How to work with series for more on publication series. -DES Talk 18:50, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

The Somnambulist

You have submitted an edit to add a cover image to The Somnambulist, AND to change the publisher from "William Morrow / HarperCollins / SFBC to "Harper". Ifg your copy is an SFBC edition it should include "/ SFBC" in the publisher name, whatever else is there. If it is not, then you are updating the wrong publication. This submission is on hold pending your response here. -DES Talk 18:54, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

There was no trade paperback edition from the SFBC of this title. It looks like someone cloned the SFBC's hc edition, but forgot to change the publisher. Submission looks good (see this OCLC record.) Mhhutchins 00:35, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah That makes sense. Will approve. In the mean tiem I have sent email to the address in the history of the talk page. -DES Talk 02:14, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Duplicate of Travellers in Magic by Goldstein

Necromancer Nine

I added notes to this verified pub after a Verification request. If you see this, please check your copy for the ISBN. Thanks, --Willem H. 19:31, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, I know you won't respond, but just to let you know, the two entries are almost certainly the same. The ISBN on the backcover (0-441-56852-1) is used for Gordon Dickson's Necromancer. This means I deleted your's, if you want, you can verify this edition. --Willem H. 18:57, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Children of the Atom

I've put your proposed addition of the "O20"-coded Children of the Atom on hold. My reading of Help:How_to_enter_a_SFBC_publication#Conclusion is that we usually just record the additional gutter codes in the one publication (here, the "L02"-coded one). It looks like the catalog number is identical. Do you see any differences other than the gutter code? Thanks, --MartyD 03:00, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I rejected this submission and incorporated the note about the "O20" gutter code into 292892 and also updated the Wiki page. --MartyD 14:00, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

The Trouble with Tycho

Just a note that I have moved the The Trouble with Tycho cover scan that you recently uploaded from the 1976 printing of this book to the 1983 printing. If you take a closer look, you'll notice that although the art is the same, the rest of the cover is significantly different. Ahasuerus 19:32, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Mindswap

Added artist, Howard Darden, to [MNDSWPPMXX1978 Mindswap] witth the note: "Artist not credited but signature is visible". Signature appears to be identical {CDCSWLDGVF1978 to the one on this cover]. Thanks. P-Brane 01:44, 18 December 2010 (UTC).

Great Tales of Fantasy and Science Fiction

Sorry, I had to reject your submission for adding a publication to 'The Best Fantasy Stories from the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction'. Reason: By our standards this is a variant title. What you can do is: Add a new anthology and enter the metadata (title, author, publisher etc.), but not the actual contents. These can be imported after the approval. You can make this before or after importing into a variant title of the original anthology (you'll need the title.cgi? number from the address window of your browser to do that). Stonecreek 13:43, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

I accepted the variant, but if it contains only 26 of the titles seen in The Best Fantasy Stories..., I wonder if it should just be a separate, unrelated title. That much of a difference strikes me as being a completely different anthology. --MartyD 11:22, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

City on Fire Walter Jon Williams 1998

Added Tim White as cover artist in this pub BarDenis 16:56, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Guess I'm just wasting my time posting this but...

I held your submission adding the titles to this record because there were several problems. If you would respond to messages on your talk page, I could have saved you and me much time and effort.

Problem #1: You wasted a lot of time manually entering the contents of this record. It would have been a lot easier to just import the contents from this record (submission 1) and then removing any contents that were omitted from this edition (submission 2). Now there are 26 content titles that someone (read "me") will have to merge with the existing title records. That's 52 submissions, because I have to moderate each of the submissions as well.

Problem #2: For some reason you removed the image that you had uploaded. I can only assume this was a mistake, as why would you have uploaded it otherwise.

Problem #3: Your HTML is bad. Instead of using the break tag (<br>), you bolded (<b>) the text, and by not closing the bold tag, it went over into the contents listing.

I'll merge the records, add the image back, and correct your HTML. It's very difficult to handle submissions from editors who won't communicate. Mhhutchins 04:18, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

'About the Author' p. 419. Previous page count in this record: 400."). These data are in the publication. I changed the pagecount from 417 to 419 and added other notes. --Willem H. 07:54, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Swan Song and one other submission

Hello, I accepted your submission and added your note to the moderator to the publication's note field. It'd be better, if you had done it by yourself. Much of the task of editing publications (& titles & information on other items) is in sourcing the information, so that others can see how the information was achieved. This publication is a good example.

It is etiquette to inform (active) primary verifiers of any change in the publication record. As there is at least one active PV (and one more transient PV) for The Best of Walter M. Miller, Jr. you should have discussed the change with them before submitting. I have put your submission on hold waiting for it. Thanks, Stonecreek 14:41, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Cover image for Pocket ed. of The Best of Walter M. Miller, Jr.

I will delete your second upload of this image file. The first upload, which replaced the old image, was sufficient. Once that was uploaded, there was no need to update the publication record, because the URL remained the same (only the image was replaced, not the URL). You may have uploaded a new file because you saw the old image when you tried to replace it. That's because the old one remained in your cache, which has to be cleared (F5 on most keyboards) before the new file you replaced it with is visible. You should cancel the submission that's currently in the queue that changes the URL. (Go to the link "My Pending Edits".) Thanks. Mhhutchins 15:14, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Editing primary verified records

It is ISFDB policy that you notify the editors who have primary-verified records which you want to update them. If the submission adds a link to a publication's cover image or adds notes to the record, it's OK to make the submission updating the record and then leave a note on the editor's talk page. (Many active editors have a message at the top of their talk page concerning their notification preferences.) If the submission changes or adds data in any other field, you must notify them before making the submission. Thanks for cooperating. Mhhutchins 21:50, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Are you certain that the title given in this record is the one stated on the title page? Also, is there a printed price on the publication? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins 20:58, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Because you don't respond to messages, I have no choice but to make changes based on the OCLC record. If this is wrong, don't make another submission to change it. Leave a message on my talk page. Mhhutchins 17:04, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Resnick's The Branch

The Zombie Survival Guide

Hello, I suppose that the reasoning behind the NONFICTION label of this book is the similarity with such guides here or there (there are lots of others). In the fictive universe depicted, it's not considered as a fictive book. Hauck 17:52, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

I have the second printing of Crown of Slaves which states that the First paperback printing was in April 2005. Your notes say April 2003. Is this a typo? The front cover of my copy is similar to the one shown from Amazon - apart from Baen logo, A Publisher's Weekly "Best Books of 2003" star and a review from Booklist. If you look closely at the centre of the front cover just above the word STOP you should find the signature © MATTINGLY 03. --AndyjMo 21:02, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Seventh Son

While you did not primary-verify Seventh Son I see that you scanned/uploaded the image and so may have a copy. I added a pub-note "please double-check the cover art credit. Later printings such as the 13th credit Dennis Nolan on the copyright page and James C. Christensen on the back cover. This seems to be a publisher's error as only the Nolan printing is used on those editions. This publication has a die-cut cover with part of the Nolan painting visble in the cutout. You open the cover to view the entire painting. It's possible Christensen did the artwork that's on the outer cover." --Marc Kupper 06:36, 30 June 2017 (EDT)

Millennium by Bova

Would you please check the title page of your copy of Millennium and see if it actually reads "Millennium" over "A Novel About People and Politics in the Year 1999"? My first printing copy shows that so I would like to correct the title to be "Millennium: A Novel About People and Politics in the Year 1999", plus replace the note with "First Ballantine Book Edition: April 1997" and "No printer's key.", and add the note "Cover art by Joseph Csatari on the copyright page".

If that is OK, I propose to then:
1. Unmerge this pub, this pub, and this pub from the existing title.
2. Make the resulting new title the cannonical title by making the existing title a variant of the new title since the new one is the oldest title.
3. Merge the three pubs named "Millennium: A Novel About People and Politics in the Year 1999" together.

Would all of this be OK with you? Phil 12:18, 26 February 2022 (EST)

Sorry - with rare exceptions I give away or trash everything I read. I can't answer your question other than to say that I'm pretty careful with my entries, particularly titles.
