Welcome!

Hello, Dmac44, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! MagicUnk 18:20, 2 January 2021 (EST)

The Patriotic Wars, Jihad, The Fall of the CoDominium, & The Burning Eye

I had to reject these three submissions: [1], [2], and [3]. We already have these three books in the database. If you look at the submissions, you will see "ISBN already on file" in yellow and if you click on that, it will show you the existing record. When entering a new book, it is best to always do an ISBN search before adding it. It will save you time. Please make any necessary updates to the existing records.

I accepted The Burning Eye, but made the following changes to match ISFDB standards:

  • Title: I removed the series name from the title.
  • Publisher: I removed "Second Edition" from the publisher field. This should only be the name of the publisher. Edition, etc. information belongs in the publication notes.
  • Introduction: I updated the title of the introduction. Generic titles, like Introduction or Foreword, should have the book name appended in parenthesis. I also changed it to an essay vs fiction based on the Amazon Look Inside.
  • Authors: I corrected the spelling of several authors per the Amazon Look Inside.

Since you did not provide a data source and did not verify it, I made Amazon the data source. If you have the ebook, please feel free to edit it to remove the data source statement and verify it (see help above). We appreciate your submission & hope you will continue to contribute. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning so please check out the help links in the welcome message above. And let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:54, 4 January 2021 (EST)

Consider Primary Verifying

Hello. Per your Note to Moderators here, I understand you own both The Fall of the CoDominium and Revolt on War World. If you do, consider primary verifying the corresponding pub record(s) (see left-hand menu 'Verify This Pub') - PVing a record signifies that you attest to the accuracy of the entered information and that you have compared it with an actual copy of the book, which would be very helpful.

On another note, you also mention that, I quote, ...Revolt on War World (the book where Farewell to Haven was first published)... However, when I checked I noticed that Farewell to Haven in The Fall of the CoDominiumis attributed to Eugene Stewart, whereas it has been attributed to Jerry Pournelle in Revolt on War World. Could you therefore clarify your statement?

And finally, could this Gene Stewart be the same author as Eugene Stewart? If they are the same person, Eugene Stewart should be made an Alternate Name of Gene Stewart. If you don't know how, let me know by replying to this message - you can do that by clicking on the small 'edit' button to the left of this message's title. Thanks! Regards, MagicUnk 11:05, 11 January 2021 (EST)

(answer received via email): In CoDominium: Revolt on War World, the short story Farewell to Haven is not attributed to anyone in either the Table of Contents or on the title page to the short story (p. 393). In the 2019 book The Fall of the Condominium, the same short story is attributed to Eugene Stewart in both the Table of Contents and on the short story title page (p. 21). I would guess that since Revolt on War World didn't list an author, the book's creator, Jerry Pournelle, was used. I do not know if Eugene Stewart and Gene Stewart are the same person but I suspect so. The person to check with would be John F. Carr, the War World book's editor. His email address is xxxxx@xxx.com Also, I own copies of both books mentioned in my comments above.
Thank you for the answer. I've asked the question :) MagicUnk 14:22, 28 January 2021 (EST)
Response from John Carr:
"In answer to your first question: Yes, Eugene Stewart has also written under the name of Gene Stewart.
Yes, it is the same story and was 'accidentally' uncredited in the CoDominium: Revolt on War World anthology. "
I have updated Contents of both publications accordingly. MagicUnk 08:39, 29 January 2021 (EST)

World War Concordance

Thanks for submitting this ebook. I've approved it, and you can see it [ here]. I had to make a few corrections so things were in the correct fields:
