Hello, and welcome to the ISFDB! I have had to reject [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5212645 your submission] to change the author and date for Black Joe O' the Bow on hold, as that would result in loss of content information of {{p|362384|More Great Tales of Horror}}. The right way to add the original 1874 title by James Smith is to variant the current 1935 J. Smith title to the original one. To do that, display the {{t|1330738|Black Joe O' the Bow}} title record, and select [http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/edit/mkvariant.cgi?1330738 Make This Title a Variant] from the left-hand menu, and then use the 2nd option to create a new parent title with the original date & name of the author. Also, when the alternate name doesn't exist yet (as is the case here), the alternate name needs to be varianted to the author's canonical name (Make/Remove Alternate Name menuitem on the left). Doing so, will display the title as ''... by James Smith [as by J. Smith]''. I've done that for you.

Welcome!

Hello, Ditmar, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! MagicUnk 06:41, 2 February 2022 (EST)

Black Joe O' the Bow

Hello, and welcome to the ISFDB! I have had to reject your submission to change the author and date for Black Joe O' the Bow, as that would result in loss of content information of More Great Tales of Horror. The right way to add the original 1874 title by James Smith is to variant the current 1935 J. Smith title to the original one. To do that, display the Black Joe O' the Bow title record, and select Make This Title a Variant from the left-hand menu, and then use the 2nd option to create a new parent title with the original date & name of the author. Also, when the alternate name doesn't exist yet (as is the case here), the alternate name needs to be varianted to the author's canonical name (Make/Remove Alternate Name menuitem on the left). Doing so, will display the title as ... by James Smith [as by J. Smith]. I've done that for you.

And you can reply here by clicking on the small 'edit' at the right of this message's title and signing with four '~'. Oh, and probably it's author James Smith (I), going by the dates of the titles that are already in the database. MagicUnk 02:57, 3 February 2022 (EST)

The Dead Bride

Hello again! I have your submission on hold, as I have difficulty linking The Dead Bride unambiguously with Die Todtenbraut. Are you sure that the text as it appears in Marjorie Bowen's Great Tales of Horror and Walpole's The Second Century of Creepy Stories is the same as the Gutenberg translation by Marjorie Bowen, credited to Anonymous? While wildly different, I can see the connection between the translation by Marjorie Bowen and the The Death-Bride translation by Sarah Elizabeth Utterson, credited to Friedrich August Schulze (directly from German, I suppose). But what I'm wondering is, is why Bowen nor Walpole credited The Dead Bride to Schulze in the first place? Any idea? Thanks! MagicUnk 08:15, 3 February 2022 (EST)
