Welcome!

Hello, Cjearkham, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!.--Dirk P Broer 19:44, 9 April 2019 (EDT)

The Black Book, #1, 2002

I accepted your change to The Black Book, #1, 2002. I see you have verified the publication, but the pub note still has "Data from The FictionMags Index." If you have the pub and are basing the data from that, than this note should be removed (or updated if some information is from pub and some from the secondary source - in which case the note should be changed to say what information if from FictionMags Index).

We do appreciate your submission & hope you will continue to contribute. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning so please check out the help links in the welcome message above. And let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:12, 3 May 2020 (EDT)

I've removed the pub note. -- Cjearkham 15:04, 24 June 2020 (EDT)

Collected Essays Volume 4: Travel

It is curious to have all content titles in double in Your verified pub here. Can You please approve? --Zapp 02:57, 17 June 2020 (EDT)

It's an error, probably caused when I tried to remove an extraneous "r" at the start of one of the titles. I tried to edit out the doubled entries, but they were still there even after the edit was approved. How do I correct this? -- Cjearkham 15:11, 24 June 2020 (EDT)
I removed the double entries. Should be better now, please check the contents. --Willem 04:27, 9 August 2020 (EDT)
Looks good. Cjearkham 19:18, 9 August 2020 (EDT)

Told by the Dead

Hello. I have your submission on hold for a moment, as I was wondering if the publication date of 2019-08-01 is on or in the book somewhere? If not, it is best to leave a note that says 'Date from Amazon.com as of 2019-09-18'. That way there is no ambiguity where that info came from. Also, I noticed that you added an introduction starting on roman numeraled page vii. Does the total no of pages include these roman numeraled pages, or not? If not, how many are there, as in that case the number of pages should be entered something like ix+306 or some such. Thanks! MagicUnk 14:33, 13 August 2020 (EDT)

Thanks for your comments. The August date came from the publisher's website: https://www.pspublishing.co.uk/told-by-the-dead--trade-paperback-by-ramsey-campbell-4869-p.asp . I ordered my copy direct from them. The total number of pages should be x+306. Cjearkham 13:28, 5 September 2020 (EDT)
Thanks for the confirmation! I've accepted your submission and updated total no of pages, added a note, and changed date from 2019-08-01 to 2019-08-00 - note if there is no certainty about the day the book was published, do not use 01, but 00. This also holds for month (and year): if we don't know the exact day, month, or year, use '0'. Regards, MagicUnk 14:04, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

Masters of the Weird Tale

You did not do anything wrong, not really. However, the way the system works is that when you add a new title, it stays on its own and does not get automatically matched to a pre-existing one. So if the stories are already in the DB, instead of typing them in a PubUpdate submission, use Import - it is on the left menu on the publication. For this book, it would have opened this and then you could use Option 2 and list the stories' IDs. You could also do them in portions :) There is a link to the help page on top of the submission page - but if you have ANY questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

By the way - in case you had not found it yet, there is a link on the publication level to find the duplicates leading to this page for the book -- so you can use that to find all the duplicates. You also have a similar link on the author level if you prefer - look for Duplicate in the left menu. I will let you submit the merges but if you want a hand, I will also be happy to submit and approve all of them for you so you do not need to worry about them. Just let me know. :) Annie 19:12, 12 November 2020 (EST)

That was fast! Thanks. I'll keep Import in mind in the future. Cjearkham 19:16, 12 November 2020 (EST)
It happens that way sometimes - if a moderator is working the queue, you can get someone getting your submission in minutes; other times it can take days. Volunteer projects - it is how it is :) Annie 19:20, 12 November 2020 (EST)

The Chromatic Court

Hello,

About this one. Unless the exact date 2019-03-14 is printed in your book, we still need the Amazon statement (albeit changed to only source the date). If the date is printed in the book, please feel free to replace the note I left with a better statement (or let me know here and I will). As it is unusual for US books to have dates printed, we always need the sources for exact dates :) Annie 00:12, 16 March 2021 (EDT)

Wouldst Write, Wee One?

Regarding this submission: You have submitted an update to the parent title, but not the variant that is actually in your verified pub. Should both of them be updated? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:47, 20 July 2021 (EDT)

The actual title has the question mark. Since it hasn't been published elsewhere, there should be no variant that's missing the question mark. I guess that means to update them both. BTW, as long as you're updating, it's an Essay, not Shortfiction. Cjearkham 21:21, 25 July 2021 (EDT)
Edit accepted and also change to an essay. I also changed the title and type of the variant. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:52, 25 July 2021 (EDT)

The 11th Golden Age of Weird Fiction Megapack: E. Hoffmann Price

Added the Introduction by Shawn Garrett to your verified The 11th Golden Age of Weird Fiction Megapack: E. Hoffmann Price. Thanks. PeteYoung 10:13, 18 August 2021 (EDT)

Spores from Sharnoth and Other Madnesses

I have submitted and edit for Memoria: A Fragment from the Book of Wyvern, a title in Spores from Sharnoth and Other Madnesses of which you are the primary verifier. It was previously published in Avatars of Wizardry. I am changing the publication date to 2012-11-14. Since it only effects the title record, you will not see an alert for a change to a primary verification. I wanted you to be alerted to the change. John Scifibones 22:39, 3 September 2021 (EDT)

Thanks for the update. Cjearkham 16:38, 5 September 2021 (EDT)

Dark Legacy, August 1998 / October 1998

Concerning your submission, always good to add the source of your data into the notes field. Can you clarify where you got this additional data from?

Concerning your question in this submission: if you need to add notes to a cover art record, simply click on the title record (you can do that from the publication display screen), and update the notes field. I've done that for you. Have a look and let me now if it's OK like this. Thanks! MagicUnk 13:08, 8 September 2021 (EDT)

I own the issue in question. Thanks for the tip regarding the title record. Cjearkham 22:19, 8 September 2021 (EDT)

Cthulhu Cultus, #3 1995

I have this submission on hold as I'm wondering where you get the data form, of not from the Fictionmags Index? (always a good idea to explain where your data/update is coming from). Also, your interesting Note to Moderators could/should be added to the publication Notes field instead. Regards, MagicUnk 13:22, 8 September 2021 (EDT)

I own the issue in question. I always hesitate to verify an existing issue where I have corrections to make. Cjearkham 22:18, 8 September 2021 (EDT)
Thanks for this and previous clarification. As far as I am concerned, please go ahead and verify an already-existing publication - even before any edits have been performed, as that indicates to the approving moderators that you have the pub in hand and that any updates come from the physical product - and if not, always add notes and date it where you get the other data from (if it's not on or in the book) :). I have approved your submissions. Regards, MagicUnk 11:34, 9 September 2021 (EDT)
Or simply add a moderator note: "working from the book, will verify when fully updated" or words to that effect. I would not verify something that looks incorrect either - what if the submission fails and the record never gets fixed? A PV means that they checked everything in the record and confirm it as correct after all. :) Annie 11:48, 9 September 2021 (EDT)
Thanks, all. Cjearkham 12:06, 9 September 2021 (EDT)

In the Night - in the Dark: Tales of Ghosts and Less Welcome Visitors

Hello,

For books with multiple prices, one price goes into the price field. The rest go into the notes. I fixed it here. I also restored the source of the exact date (unless the book has it printed inside, we need it noted) and fixed the capitalization of the changed title and fixed the title record title (when changing a book title, you need to fix the title record as well.

I also had to do quite a lot of merges. As you had been looking them up (you had the correct dates), next time instead of copying the titles (which creates new records that then need to be merged), please use import. If you are not sure how to do that, please ask and I will assist you with instructions. Also - please note that if a poem/story is not published before under that specific title/author, it needs to be dated based on the first publication it appears under this title/author. Any story/poem you had added that has a date different than the publication needs to have a note explaining where this date comes from - and if it is a variant of another story/poem, its date comes from this publication, not from the original. Let me know if you have any questions. Annie 15:17, 4 October 2021 (EDT)

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Cjearkham 21:02, 18 February 2022 (EST)

Deepest, Darkest Eden

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?427339; Someone just uploaded a copy to Archive.org, so I corrected page count, added cover and interior artists, and added OL ID. --Username 19:58, 1 August 2022 (EDT)

I randomly came across this again today and there was a bunch of other stuff that needed fixing; many story titles, a date, etc. I also added the link to the Archive.org copy. --Username (talk) 09:27, 11 October 2022 (EDT)

Enoch Coffin

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5488725; An Archive.org copy was uploaded recently so I added a link, but the page count was off so I fixed that. The other 2 editions on ISFDB have the wrong page counts, too, I suspect, but nobody PV those and there's no copies to check. --Username (talk) 11:16, 17 November 2022 (EST)
