Van Gelder's Lonely Souls

Thank you very much for adding this interesting e-book. I have two questions, though: 1) You entered 'B00D301292' in the field for the ISBN. Could you please explain on what this sigle stands for and where it does appear (because it is NOT a ISBN I added a leading # to it, to avoid a report of mistake). 2) The system automatically adds 'Data from another source (details should be provided in the submitted Note)' in the notes to the moderator, but there were no explanatory notes to be found in your submission. You may add the information in the publication's notes, accessible via the 'Edit This Pub' tool on the left tool bar of this page. Thank you again, Stonecreek 09:43, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello! To answer just click on the 'edit' of the particular item of discussion (here to the right of Van Gelder's Lonely Souls). I saw that you uploaded an image, so you should have already logged in to the wiki and there should be no further problem for you in answering.
I have approved of your new submission but as before the ISBN field had to be changed. For future addition of publications that feature no ISBN please do add a leading '#', which transforms the name of the field into 'Catalog ID' or leave it blank. Please also add a note to the publication that there's no ISBN to be found in the publication and where it stems from. Very much here at ISFDB is about sourcing the data so that other users and editors know from where a particular information is taken from.
Your story 'Notespinning' from Pulphouse now appears twice as you may have noticed. Would you like to merge them on your own or shall we step in? Stonecreek 05:23, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Song Stories, Volume 1

The ASIN is a number unique to Amazon, and as such, is not considered to be a catalog number or placed into the ISBN/Catalog # field. It's OK to add it to the "Note" field of the record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 05:43, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

One concern: the Amazon description states that the stories in this anthology are "from across the genre spectrum". If there are any which are not spec-fic (sf, horror, fantasy), they should be removed from the record and deleted from the database. Thanks. Mhhutchins 05:46, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

One last thing: the editor is given on the title page as "Wakefield G. Mahon III" and that is how it should be credited in the record. Also, I've disambiguated the the "Foreword" by adding parenthetically the title of the publication. Sorry, found another problem. There's a story "Raquel's Photograph" credited as written by "Raquel's Photograph". Please correct that when you get the chance. I had to reject the submission which was an attempt to correct the author credit for this title. Go to that title record and click on the "Edit Title Data" under the Editing Tools menu. On the next page, in the Author1 field, enter the full name of the author as credited on the title page of the publication in which the story appeared (not the contents page). If you need to respond to any of these messages, click on the [edit] link to the right of the topic, a window will open, go to the bottom of window, start typing your message by adding a colon to the number in the previous response, and at the end add four tildes (~~~~, found on the first key on the top row of most keyboards) which will sign and date the response. Fine, as long as this doesn't become a habit ;-). The cover image came through: the error message was caused by the size of 465 × 640 pixel; 600 pixels being the maximum which is desirable for one side. But this time I added the image for you (640 pixels isn't that much more for one time). I also placed a note on the primary verifiers talk page, which is the usual etiquette at ISFDB, unless the respective editor states otherwise. Thanks for this item by Bok! No, that's not me. There are a lot of Chris DeVito's out there, including at lease two musicians with websites; not me either. Actually, yes, that's me -- I've been a Crimhead since the mid-70s, and I post occasionally on the DGM Forum, plus download reviews and such. And I did used to be a musician, ages ago, but haven't played in many years. I'm from NYC/Long Island (never been to Alaska, but I'd like to go someday!); now live in east-central Illinois. Ha! My history started in 1975/76, when Red was released and shortly after the Wetton/Cross/Bruford/Fripp band dissolved. So I didn't see the band until 1981, when Discipline was released. Blew my mind (both album and live). I saw them in NYC and Stonybrook in '81 and '82. Awesome stuff, then AND now. And don't forget 21st-century Crim -- The Power to Believe is a great album, and the late 2003 concerts, especially Kingston, are phenomenal. Chris DeVito 00:17, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, every period has a total highlight, Power to Believe is one of them. It was just unbelievable that they came back to life after ten years during which I thought I'd never experience a concert. The Love That Never Dies

I approved of your submission for this ebook. I did change the credit for the cover artist: we don't list 'unknown' artists, only when we know who did the work, so I dropped this credit. I also changed the NONFICTION entry to ESSAY: NONFICTION is only for booklength titles, the type to enter for featured articles is ESSAY. The last thing (that you should change) is your author credit: Alive She Cried is now credited to two authors, if you are only credited as DeVito that should be the credit to catalog. Well, it's more common with cover artists, for example Freas being a way Frank Kelly Freas was credited quite often, but we do treat this as pseudonym. Perhaps 'Alternate Credit' would be a better denomination, but Pseudonym sounds better, so we stick with that, so if 'DeVito' is the credit, we'd go for that. (On the author summary page it will appear under the heading 'Used These Alternate Names'). Stonecreek 06:13, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

I changed the credit to the shortened version (DeVito), intalled a pseudonym relationship and varianted the story to a parent title by one certain Chris DeVito (so that it appears on your summary page). Stonecreek 13:37, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Crediting as published

I had to reject the submission to change the author credit of "Metal Machine Music" as published in this publication. The ISFDB record must reflect the credit as published. Once in the database, a variant record can be created which credits the pseudonymous, anonymous, or uncredited author. I've done that here. Mhhutchins 15:19, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Crediting as published, redux

If you're not credited as the author of the editorial in this publication, even if you are the author, you can not correct the credit as given in the publication. You have to create a parent title record which gives the credit. Go to the title record, click on the link "Make This Title a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work" under the Editing Tools menu. At the bottom of the next screen, change "uncredited" in the Author1 field to "Chris DeVito". Then submit. This creates a parent title record, making the publication's content into a variant. Two steps to resolve the problem.
  1. Go to your Preferences link here on the IFSDB wiki. Click on the "Files" link. On the next page change both of the menus to the highest setting: 10000x1000px in the first box and 300px in the second box.
  2. Never upload images which are more than 600 pixels in height, or more than 150 kb in size.
If you do these two things, you'll never get another error message, other than warning if you try to replace an image with the same file name already on the server. Mhhutchins 04:01, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
