Welcome!

Hello, Asfuller, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -DES Talk 05:38, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Your submission of Three-lobed Burning Eye Annual I

Thank you for entering the data for this work. There are a few minor issues I want to call to your attention. None of them prevent me accepting this edit, however.

  1. You give an image URL of http://www.legionpress.com/images/3LBEi_cov_med.jpg. However, as it says in ISFDB:Image linking permissions, the ISFDB links to cover images only on sites that have given the ISFDB explicit permission to do so, or sites whose own stated policies or terms of use grant such permission. The domain http://www.legionpress.com/ has not, as far as I know, granted such permission.
The best thing to do in such cases is usually to download a copy of the image to one's own computer, and then uploade it to the ISFDB's server, and link to that copy. See Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki for details on this process. I will do this for the cover image in this case.
  2. You listed three people, "Rew X", "Joachim Luetke", and "Andrew Shorrock" in the Artist field. However this field is intended to be used only for the Cover artist(s), and multiple names should be listed only when the cover is the work of more than one person. Art that is not cover art is credited with a content record of type INTERIORART. See Help:Screen:EditPub#Artist and Help:Screen:EditPub#EntryType (the section on INTERIORART) for more details.
Again i will correct this after I have approved the submission, but please be aware of the matter for the future.
  3. You entered the binding (pub format) field as "softcover". This is not a code we use. The main codes the ISFDB uses in this field are "pb" for mass-market paperbacks, "tp" for larger trade paperbacks, and "hc" for hardcovers. For more details, and for the less common codes, see Help:Screen:EditPub#Pub Format (Binding)
I will change this to "tp". If you have reason to think that this might be in mass-market pb format, please change it to "pb" or let me know.
  4. Prices are entered with dollars and cents, so "$15.00" not "$15". This is a minor matter, easily fixed, and i will fix it.
  5. I notice that you did not enter page numbers. I presume that you were working from the content list on the publisher's web site. If you have an actual copy of the book, please do enter the page numbers for each item.
  6. I notice that you listed each content item as a "short story". For the ISFDB, "short story" means a work of under 7,500 words (roughly). Do you have reason to think that none of the works are significantly longer than this? if you are unsure of the length of a work in an anthology, it can be left blank, which will code as "sf" for shortfiction of unknown length. See Help:Screen:EditPub#Length for more detail.

Again thank you very much for entering this anthology, and I hope you will make further contributions to the ISFDB. Welcome to editing. -DES Talk 14:34, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

I have approved the submission and made the required changes. The result is here. Please look it over and correct any errors that may remain. The cover image is located at Image:THRLBDBRNN2002.jpg. Again thank you. -DES Talk 14:50, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks, DES. This will help me to make proper entries as I add the next three volumes. As the editor, I have all original artwork and print editions to reference. Could you answer for me as well, whether there is a way to enter my new publication, a short story e-book? It has a publisher and ISBN Asfuller 22:28, 18 September 2010 (UTC)ASF
Excellent. Once the entries are correct and complete, please verify the publications. That will let everyone know that the entries have been confirmed by someone with an actual copy.
A short story ebook can probably be entered. Was it published as part of an online collection or webzine? If so things are a bit complex, as the entire publication should be entered if possible. But I can help you with that. If it was published separately, you can simply click the "new chapterbook" link. enter the Binding field as "ebook" and list formats in the notes. See Publisher:Project Gutenberg for our entry standards specific to PG, many of these apply to all ebooks.
Note, prices should always be entered with a currency symbol "$15.00" not "15.00" nor "$15". -DES Talk 23:04, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks. It's a stand-alone ebook. And I'll fix the $15 amounts.
You are welcome. By the way, please sign talk page comments with for tildes (~~~~), or use the signature tool (2nd from the right above the edit box). The software converts this into your username and a timestamp, or your custom sig if you set one up.
Please also indent responses with one colon per indent level at the start of a paragraph. See Help:Wiki Conventions for more detail. -DES Talk 23:24, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Image uploads

When you upload an image, please add one of the Image License Tags, and fill out the parameters, as described in Help: How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki. The software can do much of this for you automatically IF you wait until the publication has been entered and approved. Then you can use the "upload cover image" link and the software will pick up the title, edition, publisher, artist, and other details from the publication record.

Note that the image URL will still need to be copied to the relevant pub record.

We have found that in a number of cases increasing the brightness of uploaded images makes them display better on this site. if you have an image editor and can do that, you might want to, but it is in no way required.

Most of our cover images have file names derived from the publication tag (unique ID string). This is so that different publications of the same title can have unique file names. The semi-automated upload follows this convention. However it is in no way required. -DES Talk 23:18, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Your submission of Three-lobed Burning Eye Annual II

A number of the authors have initials. That is fine, but the ISFDB standardizes on the form "<In ital><period><space>". For example "C. S. Forrester", not "C.S. Forrester" nor "CS Forrester". This helps keep all an author's works together. -DES Talk 23:32, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

I have approved the publication, the result is here. -DES Talk 23:32, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
