I removed the BN number from here because it was the ISBN. When the BN number is ISBN13 or the ASIN number is ISBN-10, we don't record them in the two external IDs - as they are in the ISBN field and we already have live links to them based on the ISBN in the left menu. Matching Amazons

While Amazon.de is not a bad source here, I'd also check Amazon Italy for any Italian books - the different Amazons may have different data (look Inside in one and not in the other, some extra comments or reviews and so on) so I would check all of them and always list the "proper language one" (plus any others that gave me additional info). I was using links from DuckDuckGo to check different sites. Actually most of the info came from Libroco & Book Depository. I thought I added a link to Luca Oleastri's site but it didn't seen to attach. I can across this by accident.

Well, you added Amazon.de on an Italian book so I stopped by to mention that Italy has their own Amazon version as well. :)

It is a novel in an omnibus (added as an anthology because of a very old obsolete rule - I am looking into how to fix - as the authors need to be different in that case) :) You cannot use ClonePub (because there was no publication with just the novel) but that is what we have AddPub for :) Annie 18:00, 22 February 2022 (EST)

Hi Annie, I thought that is what I did. If I remember I went to the page and selected "upload new cover" then moved the new link to the page.

All good now. I suspect that last time you changed "Destination filename:" in the upload form - thus the weird tag :) One more thing left here - when the image is already there and not by you, you need to edit the Web page and replace the previous uploader name with yours - it is always a manual step - if you see the "already exist" warning, you need to go edit that post upload. OK a question. There are two versions of this book. One has the Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone title in Black and the other in Red. Other than that, the covers look alike. ISFDB has the black letters. The copy I found has red letters. This version is shown on Amazon. It has the same ISBN-10: 0140322388 as the black but fewer pages (256 red vs 400 Blk (per ISFDB data base but black version on ebay has same 256 pg count)). I find both versions on Ebay (US). At least one of the ebay listings with black says it was published in England. None of the other Black or any of the red say, just that they are in English. I found back sides of both versions and they are also the same. (UK, Aust, NZ & Can pricing).

So... if there are two covers and thus two editions, we want both. It is possible that the ISBN was reused but the covers were different in the different countries. If that is the case, clone for that second one. If not - you may just note the difference in the notes. The 400 pages is the pre-loader from somewhere -- and it is possible that the cover may be a preliminary one. So... do some more digging - if you think there are indeed two books, submit the second one ;) Annie 15:23, 1 March 2022 (EST)

Apparently my fingers were also unhappy with me so sorry for the multiple edits :)

• Open a new page under your own User page where you want to archive your older messages and go to its Talk (or start from there directly). Just go to your talk page here and add the new page name at the bar (I added "/Archive2017-2021" after some fumbling). Edit that page.
• Open your Talk page for editing and move the old messages to the new page. Save the new page.
• Add the new page address to the Archives section I started above under your Welcome (I leave the welcome in place as it has useful things - if you want to move it out to the archived page - go ahead).
• Save the old/regular Talk page. All done. When the page gets too large again, or at the start of each year if you prefer or even more often, you can do the same -- create a new archive page, move messages, add the archive page to your list of archived pages.

new page archive

At bottom of page uder views click on EDIT Create a new section "== name ==". Note this looks like code so copy and paste old archive name then rename. New item will appear in Contents square. I assume you then open new section and old section in seperate windows and copy-paste stuff from old to new section. Then save both.

Nope - this will just add a new entry here on this page... which was only needed that first time so you have an Archives section to collect your Archi links. You need a brand new page. You do that by adding the new name of the page on the address bar - where it says http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Aardvark7, you make this http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Aardvark7/Archive2 or whatever you want to call it. NOW you edit that one and copy stuff into it. Once you are done, you go and edit the Archives section above to add the link to the new page so you do not lose the link to it. Let me know if that makes more sense. OK I see where if I take the http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Aardvark7 g\page and add something http://www.isfdb.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Aardvark7/test it created a page that says "You've followed a link to a page that doesn't exist yet." I see where I can edit and add stuff then I can save that page. What I don't understand is how I create the link in the archive section.

I see that I would need to edit the Archives section. I see there is a link saying Archive2017-2021 and if I open that it leads to a page ending in Archive2017-2021. Its think link I don't understand how to make. OR Wait.... If I hit edit the archive section there is code(?) saying "((User_talk:Aardvark7/Archive2017-2021|Archive2017-2021))". This is the link? and if my new page is named Archive 2021-23 I would add to this section "((User_talk:Aardvark7/Archive2021-23|Archive2021-23))". where the ( are brackets. Yep - that's wiki code so that if we ever move (to https for example), these links are still valid. Just copy what I left there one more time and replace Archive2017-2021|Archive2017-2021 with the name of the new page you created (test|test) for example. The thing before the | is the actual page. The thing after the | is the text appearing on the page here (so you can do "test|And this is my test page" instead of "test|test". Capitalization and authors with multiple initials

When adding books, please keep in mind our standardization rules:

• We standardize capitalization (so "from" is always spelled with small letters unless it is the first word in a title or subtitle)
• Authors with two initials always get a space between the two initials.

I've fixed it here. You also had the wrong Goodreads ID -- this is definitely a different book. I am also not sure where the date 2005-09-05 came from - both GR and Amazon (which are all your sources) have 2005-09-30 :) All that is fixed. I'd also recommend to use Amazon.com and not just Amazon so it is clear which of the 16 Amazons you are sourcing from (as they may have different data) and I added the price as Amazon did have the list price. PS: I also added the series and dated the synopsis here. When copying synopsis or notes from an online source, always add a date - unlike books, sites change so dating when we grabbed the data is useful (Same reason you date the publication notes the way you did it there). My mind must have been somewhere. No idea where my Goodreads came from or the date. I was debating on the initials. There is also a Kindle version and a newer print & Kindle with different covers. OK I have a couple of questions. The current cover has 2 Kindle versions. One is by Realms and the other (1st one out) by Creation House, a self publishing firm. I see them listed as a publishers so I can use them, correct?? Also the second cover in the Amazon Look Inside says "Cover Design by Alexander von Ness". His website https://www.nessgraphica.com says "book covers on steroids". Reading the about me I can't make up my mind, is he also the artists? What do you think?Also in this cover version T. L. No worries - that's why we have the second set of eyes system. You can look for books based on an artist or author or topic or just see something randomly - we want it. I wish we could have all books but we don't so any missing books are welcome to join us. :)

"Creation House" - if they are credited inside of the book as publisher, yes. Or you can use the Author name as we do with some of the "publishing platforms". As we have it here, you can as well use it - but if there is access to a title/copyright page, check what is actually credited.

Alexander von Ness - The operative word is "design". Unless there is also credit for art, he gets only a note (and yes, it is a slippery road and today's technology can make the distinction meaningless but... for now design credit means no coverart :)

Tracy Higley - So you add the book as NewPub by Tracy Higley and decide which one is going to be the canonical (take a look at their other books to see which is used more often) and then pseudonym/variant accordingly. If you need any help, do let me know. If the later name is the canonical, the dating of the parent titles will need some adjusting but ignore that for now - let's get the books in and connected and we can deal with that later. :) Annie 17:13, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Yes, I am aware of the sites, gruselromane.de in particular is no longer maintained and https://gruselroman-forum.de/ has taken over most the material and the users are actively adding. Whilst the publications exist for sure not all of the data is correct, cover credits and publication dates don't always match reality.JLochhas 05:03, 24 July 2022 (EDT)

Vortex ebook

The Transliteration field

I just found quite a few of Russian books added by you where you added a translation into the transliteration field. The field is for transliteration - representing the non-Latin characters with Latin characters and not for translating the words in English. If you are not sure how to transliterate a specific language, just leave the fields empty and someone will fix them later. In addition the artist was credited in English - which will only be valid if the artist's canonical name is in English and they are credited based on secondary sources only and we know the are not credited in the book. I am fixing all books where the cover art was by this artist. If you had done the same for other non-Latin languages, please revisit and/or post them here so I can fix them. Thanks! Importing titles

Concerning this edit of your, if you want to add missing art records (or any contents title really), you should import the title, instead of editing the pub record and thus creating a duplicate title, which would then afterwards have to be merged with the already-existing one. Importing is one edit, the way you're doing it requires two...
To import, search for the title id you want to import (Title Record #), then display the publication you want to import the title into, and select 'Import Contents' from the left hand menu.
