• ISBN / Catalog # - An field for identification numbers. Should hold the ISBN if the publication has one. Please enter the ISBN without spaces, periods or hyphens. The ISFDB will display the ISBN with hyphens, but if you enter the hyphens it has to strip them out, and this is hard to do consistently so we ask for entry without separators. In some cases you will see a nine digit ISBN, without a leading zero (for English language publications); in this case you can add the zero and enter that number. It is helpful but not necessary to make a note in the notes field if you do this. You may also see an ISBN of the form "0-586-06604-7-275"; the last three digits indicate a price, and are not part of the ISBN; they should not be entered. For magazines, it is allowable to enter the ISSN. For works that predate ISBNs, the book's catalog number may be placed here. If the book had neither an ISBN nor a catalog number, the field should be left blank. Some catalog numbers are printed in multiple different ways, and consensus should be reached on the talk page for significant publisher runs. For example, DAW Books have used codes such as "UQ1064"; the book with this code has "UQ1064" on the front cover, and 451-UQ1064-095 on the spine. Which should be entered is an issue for the DAW Books project page. If there is a catalog number in addition to an ISBN, the catalog number should be placed in the Notes field.
