Documentation for Template:GFDL-IS (Transcluded from Template:GFDL-IS/doc)

Purpose

This template is used for indicating that a document or image has been licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) with possible invariant sections. (On the ISFDB wiki this will generally be used only for images copied from sources that use or used to use the GFDL, such as Wikipedia.) It takes four parameters, Version, Author, Source, and IS. Author must be specified to comply with the terms of the license. Source is strongly encouraged -- it is hard to be in compliance if the source is unknown.

Usage

Minimal call:

Note: In all the above examples, when a parameter is shown in angle brackets, like:

<Parameter>

then the parameter, and the angle brackets, should be replaced by the value of the parameter. For example: Title=<TITLE> should become Title=The Name of the Book (or whatever the name might be).

Parameter definitions

Parameter	Description	Default
Author	The name of the author (artist). If there are multiple authors, this should be a list of all names. If the image is a modified version of an original, the names of both the original author (artist) and the author of the modified version must be included. If there is a chain of modified versions, the authors of all links in the chain must be included. This parameter is required to comply with the conditions of the license.	None.
Source	A URL or other specification of the location where the original image may be accessed, or from which this copy was derived. The use of this parameter is strongly encouraged.	"Unknown"
Version	The version number of the GFDL under which the document or image was released.	"1.2"
IS	A list of the names of the 'Invariant Sections if any, imposed by the author. Modified copies must include the invariant sections unchanged.	"None"
