The Orion Paperback Division was launched in 1993.

In December 1998 the group acquired Cassell, and thus the Gollancz imprints.

In 1998, Hachette Livre bought a majority of the share capital and in 2003 Hachette Livre became the sole owner of the group.

In January 2002 Hachette Livre bought the Octopus Publishing Group and the illustrated imprints of Cassell & Co were transferred to the Octopus Group.
