Tags are text strings that help categorize Titles in the ISFDB. You can have more than one tag per title, e.g. Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" may have tags like "time travel" and "dinosaurs" associated with it. Unlike most data submissions within ISFDB, there is no moderator approval needed in order to add a tag -- new tags take effect immediately. Once added to the Title, a tag will be displayed on that Title's Bibliography page. Please do NOT add tags that spoil the plot.

In order to add a new tag, you need to first display the title that the tag is related to. Once the title is displayed, selecting "Add Tags" on the "Popular Tags" line at the top of the page will bring up the "Tag Editor" screen. There will be two lists displayed, one for "Existing Tags Associated With This Work" and one for "Most Popular Tags in the Database". The latter is for reference purposes only; users can add previously undefined tags to titles. However, keep in mind that creating very specific and/or obscure tags will result in very few titles per tag and ultimately defeat the purpose of title tagging.

Once you have reviewed the tags that are currently defined for this title and decided what tag(s) you want to add, scroll down to the field "Tag1" at the bottom of the screen. Enter the first new tag in the field. If you want to add more than one Tag, click on the "Add Tag" button as many times as necessary and enter additional tags in fields "Tag2", "Tag3", etc. Once you have entered all of your new tags, click on the "Submit Data" button and the new tag(s) will be immediately added to the title.
