ISFDB Bureaucrats are ISFDB moderators who also have the Wiki-based "Bureaucrat" flag set on their account. When viewing Moderator-only menu options, they have access to a special "Bureaucrat" menu. The link to the menu appears in the "Moderator Links" navigation bar on the left. Currently, the Bureaucrat menu includes the following options:

• Add New Language
• Add New Award Type
• Manage Self-Approvers. This option lists all current self-approvers, i.e. editors who are able to approve their own submissions. It lets you enter the name of an ISFDB editor and select whether the editor is a self-approver. Note that self-approvers can't perform other moderator-only activities like blocking users on the Wiki, "ignoring" records in cleanup reports, merging authors/publishers, removing secondary verifications, removing tags, etc.
• Re-calculate Marque (most viewed) Authors. Identifies the top 2% of most frequently viewed ISFDB authors. The option then sets the "marque" flag for each identified author record. Marque authors are the only authors which can appear on the front page of the ISFDB Web site. Bureaucrats are expected to run this option at the start of each year.
• ISFDB Control Panel. Lets you change the ISFDB version number, online/offline status and editing status (editing offline, public editing, moderator editing only). Note that changing the ISFDB version number should not be done lightly since it requires a corresponding change to the software. If the value entered in this menu gets out of sync with the software, all ISFDB pages will start displaying highlighted warnings at the top of the page.
• Secondary Verification Sources
  • List/Edit Verification Sources. Lets you list all supported secondary verification sources and edit them one at a time. Each secondary verification source records consists of three fields: Label, Name and URL. The Label field is what's displayed on Publication Verification pages, e.g. "Clute/Nicholls" or "OCLC/Worldcat". The Name field contains the full name of the verification source, e.g. "The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, 2nd edition" for "Clute/Nicholls". The URL field contains the URL of the Web page with more information about the verification source, typically an ISFDB Wiki page.
  • Add a New Verification Source. Lets you add a new supported secondary verification source. See "List/Edit Verification Sources" above for descriptions of the fields within secondary verification source records.
• ISFDB Templates
  • Add a New ISFDB Template. Lets you add a new template to the list of templates supported by the ISFDB software. Templates used within Note and Synopsis fields are automatically expanded by the ISFDB software. Their format is either {{Template_name}} or {{Template name|value}}. Each template is defined by the following 5 fields: Name, Displayed Name, Template Type, Link URL, Mouseover Help. The fields have the following meanings:
    • Name: the name of the template that will be entered inside double braces
    • Displayed Name: the value which will replace the name of the template when the affected Note/Synopsis is displayed.
    • Template Type: one of the following 3 values: "Internal URL", "External URL" or "Substitute String". Internal URL templates replace the template value with a link to an ISFDB record. External URL templates replace the template value with a link to a third party template. Substitute String templates substitute the template name with the "Displayed Name" value and do not link to another Web page.
    • Link URL: A URL string. For eternal URLs, this is the full URL of the third party Web page with "%s" used where the template value will be inserted when a Note/Synopsis field is displayed, e.g. "https://www.worldcat.org/oclc/%s". For Internal URLs, the leading "http(s)" and ISFDB domain name are omitted, e.g. "se.cgi?arg=%s&type=Publication+Series&mode=exact". This field is empty for Substitute String templates.
    • Mouseover Help: Mouse-over Help text which will be displayed when the user's mouse rolls over the displayed template text.
  • List/Edit ISFDB Templates. Lets you list all currently defined ISFDB Templates, then choose one from the list and edit it. The fields that you can edit are described in the "Add a New ISFDB Template" section above.
