90029 OPEN When submitting a deletion request for a Publication or a Work, a free text "Reason" field would be very helpful. That way Moderators would know why a particular record was nominated for deletion, e.g. "Duplicate record, see XYZ". Ahasuerus 09:59, 30 May 2006 (CDT)

Free text, or pulldown menu? Free text can be left blank. Alvonruff 10:04, 30 May 2006 (CDT)
A pulldown menu of pre-defined reasons? How confident are we that we know 95%+ of all possible reasons for deletion? Ahasuerus 10:17, 30 May 2006 (CDT)
I take that as a vote for free text :). Other than "Not SF", "Duplicate", and "Errant Submission", what else is there? Alvonruff 10:22, 30 May 2006 (CDT)
Well, the idea was to make it easier for Moderators to determine whether a proposed deletion is legitimate or not. I was even thinking about adding "(be specific)" to the prompt. One example of what I had in mind would be "Heinlein's name is misspelled in this record, see the Heinlein entry". If we limit the list to canned responses, it may make it more difficult for moderators to determine what the editor had in mind. I am not sure just how much of a problem it will be...
