Jesse Bier was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in the infantry in France, Belgium, and Germany during 1945-1946.[1] He graduated from Bucknell Univ. in 1949, then earned an M.A. (1952) and Ph.D. (1956) from Princeton. He has taught at the Univ. of Colorado, Univ. of Montona, Bucknell Univ., San Diego State College, the Universities of Clermont-Ferrand and Lyon, France, the Sorbonne, and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, where he held the chair of American Literature.[2]
