David Edward Martin is one of several artists and writers named "David Martin". In his case, he was born in 1955 in Rockford, Illinois, and had lived primarily in the Midwest and Virginia. He currently resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

David is primarily known as a fan/ semi-pro artist who has been creating SF and fantasy art since the 1970s. His art is mostly known through displays in scifi conventions nationwide and internet galleries worldwide. His best known painting is "Temple of the Great Cat God", a parody of the original AD&D Players Handbook cover. A large selection of his art and photography is available on Renderosity.com

His writing career is mostly tied to the role-playing game field, with works published by TSR Inc, Mayfair Games, and West End Games. His best known work is The Ultimate Powers Book, the original cyclopedia of superpowers and magical abilities. That book has been copied numerous times by other writers for other game systems. He also was one of the main contributors to The Gamer's Handbook to the Marvel Universe and The Monstrous Compendium.
