Dan Thompson was born in Brownwood, Texas. He was drafted into the Army during the Viet Nam war. He trained as a ballistic missile electronics technician and, over the next twelve years, worked on various Army missile systems in Germany, Italy, Korea, and at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. After leaving the Army in 1980, he worked in applied research in optics, high energy lasers and digital electronics until he accepted a civilian position with the Army. His hobbies include scale modeling, writing (fiction and non-fiction), and digital video production.
