T. Jackson King is a professional archeologist, journalist and author who is a graduate of UCLA (M.A. 1976) and the University of Tennessee (B.S. 1971). His published SF novels are RETREAD SHOP (1988-Warner Books) and ANCESTOR’S WORLD (1996-Ace; with A.C. Crispin). His short stories have appeared in Analog, Pulphouse, Tomorrow, Absolute Magnitude, The Silver Web, VB Tech Journal, Expanse, Aberrations, Figment, Pandora and Midnight Zoo magazines. King writes hard SF, anthropological SF, dark fantasy/horror and contemporary fantasy. In his stories, King explores questions of culture, adaptation, archetypes and individual choice. He is also a published poet and essayist. King has worked as an archaeologist in the American Southwest and has traveled widely in Europe, Russia, Japan and the United States. His archeological publications include one monograph and six professional articles. Other jobs have included short order cook, hotel clerk, legal assistant, investigative reporter, editor, and telephone order taker. As an investigative reporter, his honors include a First Amendment Award 2003, by the Society for Professional Journalists; and two Honorable Mentions, 1987 and 1988, in L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Contest. In past years, King was a Tennessee hippie, belonged to the Southern Students Organizing Committee (SSOC), helped lead the first anti-Vietnam War demonstration by expatriates in Tokyo in 1968, and started up the Shinjuku Sutra, the first English underground newpaper in Japan. King's three grown children are Keith, Karen and Kevin, who now all live in Virginia. Within the SF community, King has appeared at many cons, served as SFWA Elections Chair in 1990 and was chair of the Philip K. Dick Award jury in 1996. His most recent publication was in 2002, the dark fantasy short story "A Lesser Michaelangelo," that appeared in The Silver Web 15, Winter 2002.
