: Per email from LC to me received today, however, that "one of its 21 records" [http://lccn.loc.gov/86025869 LCCN 86-25869] has been reassigned not to '''British illustrator Richard Pitt Kennedy''' but to another Kennedy, namely (as of 1986) "'''Kennedy; illustrator lives in Italy''', does not reveal forenames" [http://lccn.loc.gov/n85372282 n85-372282]. No doubt some of that Kennedy's 12 records are spurious but most of them are children's picture books with text translated from Italian, which fits. At least one is evidently a genre work (albeit unpaged children's picture book), "The Ugly Duckling" (Barron's 1986) [https://lccn.loc.gov/85028576 85-28576].

The Library of Congress does not evidently know Jerome Richard Kennedy (b. 1932) as an illustrator. All but one of its 21 records for him (returned for him in the online catalog as of 2016-04-27) credit him as writer and another person as illustrator. The one record credits Richard Kennedy as illustrator of work by another writer, perhaps by mistaken identity.

This author record was split last week. We now have the distinct illustrator Richard Pitt Kennedy A229183
Per email from LC to me received today, however, that "one of its 21 records" LCCN 86-25869 has been reassigned not to British illustrator Richard Pitt Kennedy but to another Kennedy, namely (as of 1986) "Kennedy; illustrator lives in Italy, does not reveal forenames" n85-372282. No doubt some of that Kennedy's 12 records are spurious but most of them are children's picture books with text translated from Italian, which fits. At least one is evidently a genre work (albeit unpaged children's picture book), "The Ugly Duckling" (Barron's 1986) 85-28576.

At least such editions as Puss-in-Boots 1987, Peter Pan 1967 292645, and OUP Pippi Longstocking 1971 are likely to be handled by a professional illustrator.

  • OCLC 16216530, Pippi Longstocking (Oxford University Press, 1971), translation dated 1954, illus. not dated (not original to 1945)
Richard Jerome Kennedy

Apparently Hodder & Stoughton published one of his books as by "Richard Jerome" (per OCLC, also Amazon as of 2016-04-27). LCCN cites Contemporary Authors for the full name "Jerome Richard".

  • OCLC 849740822, OCLC 16596886, Inside My Feet: The Story of a Giant, Hodder & Stoughton, 1981-03-01 (date from Amazon.co.uk), ISBN 0340258888
