Welcome!

Hello, Drvz1q, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! MagicUnk 16:35, 2 September 2021 (EDT)

When the Sea Failed Her.

Hello, I have your submission on hold as I couldn't figure out why you want to update the title date to 1909-05-00 as the publication it appeared in was published in 1909-04-00? Can you clarify? (you can reply here by clicking the small edit to the right of this message's title, and indenting your reply with one or more colons ':'). Also, if you intend to contribute more, do read through the links provided in the welcome note above. Also, you can ask questions over at the help desk or community portal. Again, welcome! Hello, Thank You for providing me with these links! According to the FictionMags Index (http://www.philsp.com/homeville/FMI/k/k04602.htm#A16) "When the Sea Failed Her" is published in the May issue, not April (date given in Bleiler). --Drvz1q 03:20, 7 September 2021 (EDT)
Ah, in this case, the edit may be a little bit more convoluted: since there are two conflicting sources we need to select the most authoritative one, and then add notes detailing the discrepancy between both. For now, I've added a note to the existing pub record, which is the easiest to do (assuming Bleiler is the authoritative one - I know, I'm lazy :)). Also, I've added the same note to the title field of "When the Sea Failed Her" as well. If you have good argument that FictionMag is the authoritative source over Bleiler, we'd have to change the following data of the publication record (not the title record as you submitted):
  • Change publication title to: Pall Mall Magazine, May 1909
  • Change pub date to 1909-05-00
  • Add note to title and publication records as per above detailing discrepancy
  • Update title date of both titles in the 'Regular Titles' section to 1909-05-00
Hence, I've rejected your submission - feel free to comment and/or submit a correction based on the above (if you do, provide convincing argument why FictionMag is to be trusted over Bleiler). Regards, MagicUnk 14:33, 7 September 2021 (EDT)
Your solution works well for me! I have no definite means to verify the volume/nr. provided on the FictionMag site, so as You point out it is a matter of the authorative source. The FictionMag index does however provide the TOCs from 1893 to 1914, including page numbers - and at least I can verify that the page number they give for Blayley is correct as I do have a photo-copy of the story myself. Brett Holman: The Next War in the Air (2014), p.34, FN 51 also states the month May. I do lean towards an error by Bleiler but cannot verify it. Regards, --Drvz1q 09:12, 10 September 2021 (EDT)
addendum: I forgot to photo-copy the title page of the issue at the time, otherwise I could verify it. --Drvz1q 09:19, 10 September 2021 (EDT)
Thanks for this additional information. I gather that indeed Bleiler is in error. Feel free to give it a try to update the publication record per the recommendations above. Regards, MagicUnk 10:26, 10 September 2021 (EDT)
