Add new bugs at the top. Give the bug a number by incrementing the "next open bug number"; give it a status of OPEN, and then describe the problem.

Valid statuses are:

  • OPEN -- reported, not fixed or denied
  • WORKSFORME -- cannot reproduce the problem; no further research will be done
  • FIXED -- problem has been fixed
  • NAB -- the behaviour described is not a bug, but is the intended behaviour of the software
  • WONTFIX -- the behaviour described is not ideal, but will not be fixed for some reason
  • CLOSED -- the bug has been closed for some other reason. A bug that requires more information for a fix to be made may be closed, and can be reopened if the submitter adds the requested information.

Next open bug number: 30017.

  • 30016 OPEN The Series Bibliography page apparently sorts its entries by year, then by editor, then by title. This can cause display problems when the editor changes half way through a year as it happened to The Dragon Magazine in 1980:
   *  Dragon Magazine
         o The Dragon Magazine - 1976 - Issues # 1-4 (1976) by Timothy J. Kask
         o The Dragon Magazine - 1977 - Issues # 5-11 (1977) by Timothy J. Kask
         o The Dragon Magazine - 1978 - Issues # 12-21 (1978) by Timothy J. Kask
         o The Dragon Magazine - 1979 - Issues # 22-32 (1979) by Timothy J. Kask
         o The Dragon Magazine - 1980 - Issues # 35-41 (1980) by Jake Jaquet
         o The Dragon Magazine - 1980 - Issues # 33-34 (1980) by Timothy J. Kask
         o Dragon Magazine - 1980 - Issue # 42-44 (1980) by Jake Jaquet
    • Note that the problem is no longer visible on The Dragon Magazine page since Title dates have been changed to 1980-00-01, 1980-00-02, etc. Ahasuerus 11:49, 17 Jul 2007 (CDT)
  • 30015 OPEN When a Series name includes an apostrophe, entering new Titles in the series results in a new series (with the same name) being created instead of the Title being added to the existing series. The workaround is to change the Series name to a string without an apostrophe, then add all related Titles to it and then change the Series name back to what it should be. See Gregory Betancourt John Gregory Betancourt's Roger Zelazny's The Dawn of Amber for an example. Ahasuerus 14:18, 9 Feb 2007 (CST)
  • 30014 OPEN When the last Title is deleted from a Series, the resulting "empty" Series is not deleted. This is due to the fact that determining that a Series is truly empty as opposed to being a superseries that contains other, non-empty, series, is non-trivial. This behavior causes various previously reported bugs that are now consilidated under this bug number:
    • 30009 OPEN It looks like deleting the last Work in a Series fails to delete that series if it happens to be a subseries within another series. See, e.g., Star Wars: The New Jedi Order, whose subseries, Agents of Chaos was not deleted when its last entry was deleted; it is now undeletable by regular means. Also note that Star Wars: The New Jedi Order is the superseries of Star Wars: The New Jedi Order (note the different URL), and I can't easily delete the association between the two. I am leaving them as is for now. Ahasuerus 16:50, 31 May 2006 (CDT)
    • 30007 OPEN Deleting the last Work in a Series sometimes leaves the Series record behind, resulting in an empty series, e.g. Uncanny X-Men. This may be related to the next bug described below. Ahasuerus 17:10, 21 May 2006 (CDT)
    • 30006 OPEN At one point a two book series by Diane Duane ("Feline Wizards") was associated with the "Wizards" superseries by Simon Hawke. I tried unlinking Duane's Works from the series and then recreating the series data elements, hoping that the newly created series would no longer be linked to the superseries. No luck, though. After deleting all series data from Duane's Works, "Feline Wizards" should have been deleted, but it stuck around as an empty subseries under "Wizards" and was then repopulated when I added Works to it. I then blanked out the series names in the 2 Works again, went to the "Wizard" superseries display screen, pulled up the empty series in Series Edit and blanked out both the series name and the superseries name. The result, as can be seen here is not pretty -- there is a series stub left at the bottom of the the super-series listing with no series name or titles. Ahasuerus 13:17, 18 May 2006 (CDT)
      • Here is another, likely related, bug. E. Modesitt, Jr. L. E. Modessit, Jr.'s Ecolitan Envoy series was listed as a subseries of a super-series. However, upon closer examination it turned out that the superseries had no entries other than the Ecolitan Envoy series. I pulled up the superseries in Edit Series, blanked out the superseries name and submitted/approved it. The superseries is gone now, but Ecolitan Envoy is still displayed as a subseries of a non-existing superseries, as can be seen in the Long Works Bibliography. Ahasuerus 10:56, 24 May 2006 (CDT)
      • Another example can be found here. I deleted the association between the only Work in this subseries -- which should have made the subseries dispappear -- but it stuck around. Ahasuerus 17:03, 29 May 2006 (CDT)
  • 30013 OPEN Series lists do not display Variant titles or pseudonyms -- see Rennie Gordon Rennie's biblio for an example. Ahasuerus 14:15, 6 Jul 2006 (CDT)
  • 30008 OPEN I have just entered a non-fiction book in the "Thieves' World" series, "Game Master's Guide for Sanctuary". Lynn_Abbey's Long Works page displays the non-fiction series, but not the Work itself. The actual Work is listed under the fiction version of the "Thieves' World" series listing. Ahasuerus 13:14, 29 May 2006 (CDT)
  • 30005 OPEN Any time a Superseries includes a series with the same name as the Superseries name, the Superseries display screen displays that subseries' data twice. We may want to implement stronger safeguards against attempts to create series names that already exist. It sounds like they are more trouble than they are worth. Ahasuerus 20:09, 8 May 2006 (CDT)
  • 30004 OPEN When a series worth of Works is coverted from "novel" to "non-genre", they are no longer displayed as a series in Long Works, instead they are listed alphabetically under Nongenre. The Series information, however, is preserved and you can still see it via other tools. Shouldn't this be consistent? Do we want to have "Nongenre series" in Long Works? Ahasuerus 18:45, 4 May 2006 (CDT)
  • 30003 OPEN I seem to be unable to delete an association between a super-series and a series that is nested within it. E.g., when I pull up the Series entry for Leigh Brackett's "Eric John Stark" and blank out the name of its parent series, "Mars", the submission looks right, but when I approve it, nothing happens. Ahasuerus 18:37, 4 May 2006 (CDT)
  • 30001 OPEN In McCaffrey's Long Works list, the following series is displayed twice, once as a regular series and once as a non-fiction series: "Dragon Riders of Pern". The URLs are the same. Ahasuerus 10:10, 2 May 2006 (CDT)
