As the oldest child of three, Jack loved reading and he scoured the local library for books. His first interests were television and electronics. In the Navy he served as an Electronics Technician, making Chief Petty Officer after only nine years. He retired from the Navy after serving twenty years. Having developed a love of computers, Jack worked in the Information Technology field after he retired, garnering a variety of industry certificaitons. Much of his work involved research and education, both which requred extensive writing. In his mid-fifties, Jack took his proclivity for verbosity and decided to write for himself. In 2010, his long-time friend Faith Page (an accomplished musician), encouraged him to write the shell of a book and the lyrics for a musical entitled "Wisteria." That play still languishes in rewrite hell, but the process encouraged Jack to explore his newfound love for writing.

J. Carlysle Ramsey, who goes by 'Jack,' was born Andrew Jack Turner on September 10, 1957 in Pontiac, Michigan. He is an American writer of science fiction novels and Broadway-style musicals. He grew up in Sitka, Alaska, and at the age of 18 joined the U.S. Navy. While serving, he attended Chapman University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Technology, and the University of Redlands where he received a Masters in Business Administration. Both degrees were earned while stationed in San Diego, California.

He joined a writers group in Buffalo, New York, and started writing novels. There he was encouraged to participate in National Novel Writing Month. That first year he didn't finish the 50,000 word novel, but the second and third times he competed he did. In fact, he finished the 50,000 word draft of his first NaNoWriMo novel in only fifteen days. He chose to write under the nom de plume of J. Carlysle Ramsey since he was concerned that he might not be taken seriously in the theatre world if he was known as a sci-fi writer.

In 2012, having very much enjoyed writing the lyrics for "Wisteria," Jack completed his second musical, "Lube: A Modern Love Story." This time there was no composer available to collaborate with, so "Lube" was shelved until such could be found. Jack continued writing science fiction, accumulating a pile of drafts. Finally in 2013, he decided to publish his first book, giving himself a deadline of six months to edit and polish the draft manuscript for "Cat-astrophe." Jack self-published the sci-fi novel on Amazon for the Kindle on August 31, 2013. He continued to write two books a year for the next couple of years.

After moving back to San Diego in 2014, Jack was encouraged by a member of his new writers group, Victoria Turner (no relation), to dust off "Lube" and look for a composer. In 2015, the pair held a Student Composer Contest in the state of California. Several college students competed, but the winner was Brandon Bowerman, a freshman at UCLA studying music composition. The winning entry, "Damn These Feelings Anyway," and the scene from "Lube" that contains that song, were filmed in November of 2015. After editing, the scene was aired on Time Warner Public Access Cable and uploaded to YouTube along with three music videos extraced from that video sequence.

As of April 2014, Jack has been living in San Diego. His current project is a sequel to his first novel, "Cat-astrophe," entitled "Cat-atonic." Jack says he loved the characters in his first book so much that he had to bring them back for an encore. He hopes to have that novel published sometime in 2016. He's also gearing up for a public reading of the full script from "Lube: A Modern Love Story" in the fall of 2016 -- including recording all twenty-four of the songs from the play in advance.
