A start at a collection of links to authors of color, including Asians, Asian-Americans, Africans, African-Americans, other African diaspora authors, Native Americans, Caribbean, South American, Latin American, and Latinos (Hispanic-Americans). This will take a long time to do well, but here's a start.

Native American (American Indian)

This list consists of authors in Wikipedia's Native American writers, the Native American Authors list at the Internet Public Library, and various other lists of Native American writers. These writers were then compared those to the authors which are also in the ISFDB (as of Feb. 10, 2014). This does not include artists and non-fiction Native American writers if they did not write fiction (that we know of).

In the columns below, the author's name links to their ISFDB entry. The numbers of books & short stories include only fiction publications. The "Publishing years" include non-fiction and magazine/anthology editor positions as well. Neither of these last two columns includes non-genre works by the author.

We do not normally include folk tales and legends as part of "speculative fiction", but they are closely related. However, several early books of such legends were compiled by Native American authors, and we include some of these here:

  • Zitkala Sa (Gertrude Bonnin) (Dakota Sioux of Yankton band, 1876-1938)
    • Old Indian Legends (1901)
    • American Indian Stories (1921)
  • Hum-is hu-ma or Mourning Dove (Christal Quintasket) (Okanogan, 1888-1936)
    • Coyote Stories (1933)
