Welcome!

Hello, Zvar, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 17:30, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Clone Republic novels

Instead of changing the later editions' title data they should be merged with the first editions which automatically adds the Series data. I've done that for the three novels. If you just change the title data there would be two each of 1, 2, 3 in the series. By merging the titles there is just one but each one shows the two editions. --~ Bill, Bluesman 18:40, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for getting that. I have a couple bore books I'd like to merge, but either I'm being very blonde or blind and I don't see the option. Under Title I see to unmerge, but not merge. Under the publication I'm seeing nothing. How do I submit a merge request? Zvar 18:56, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
When you open up the bibliographic page of any author, there is a link under Editing Tools to "Check for Duplicate Titles". If there are any, they will be grouped in twos/threes/etc. Click the buttons to the left of the ones you want to merge and then click the "Merge Selected Records". This will bring up another page that will show the differences between the editions [if any] with one set already checked. If that data is correct for the two or more records then just click "Submit Merge". Sometimes, especially when series are involved, there are other parts of one record that may be correct but aren't pre-selected. Just go through the options carefully. If there is any confusion, add a note here and I can walk you through it [always easier with a real example!]. --~ Bill, Bluesman 19:23, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Series conflict

Looks like the same book is being given as part of two entirely different series, Midkemian Trilogy in the UK and Chaoswar in the US. This isn't the first time this has happened. To do both editions justice, the Series Title should be a combination: Midkemian Trilogy [UK] / Chaoswar [US] or something similar. Currently there is no way to make one series a Variant of another. Also, in the proposed Merge submission, you opted for the later date of the US release, which is not correct as the UK edition is already out there, that date should be used. I've put the submission on hold as it is easier to re-submit than to correct it after. The easiest way would be to edit the Series title of the UK edition to add the US series name, then merge the two editions. I can do that or you can try it? --~ Bill, Bluesman 19:59, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

One last thing: does this series belong in the Riftwar Universe parent series? If so, click on the new Series title you just created and to the left is a button "Edit Series" which will open a page where you can enter a Parent Series. Be careful you get it exactly the same as the way Riftwar Universe is spelled, punctuated etc. as the database software has NO interpolative aspects. Any difference will create a new series. I have a feeling the "Demonwar" series also belongs there, but I've never read any Feist to know. --~ Bill, Bluesman 22:48, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Beat me to it!! :-) --~ Bill, Bluesman 22:49, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I just noticed that before I came to the talk page. As for Demonwar I haven't read it either, but the author's website show's it to be a Riftwar series, so I'll submit the move in one moment. Zvar 23:04, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
