User talk:ZEROSPAWN
Welcome!
Hello, ZEROSPAWN, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- FAQ
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
- Wiki Conventions - How things are usually done on this wiki.
- Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki
Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Annie 22:41, 8 September 2019 (EDT)
Cries from the Static
Hello,
The pipes (|) are used for cases where we need to order the contents but do not know the exact pages. As it looks like we do know them here (or someone thought so when adding the book anyway), what is the reason to hide the page numbers? Thanks! Annie 22:43, 8 September 2019 (EDT)
tp vs pb
Our paperback formats are a bit tricky - they are based only on size:
- If at least one of the sides of the book is 19 cm / 7.25' or higher, it is tp and not a pb.
- pb is for mass market paperbacks only (US Style).
This one is 5.5x8.5 according to amazon - which makes it a tp. Most books published today are "tp" and not "pb" in the DB. :) Annie 23:05, 11 September 2019 (EDT)
The Encyclopedia...
Hello, and welcome! I thought I'd drop you a note to let you know that title-related information goes into the title record. I've moved the notes contents of The Encyclopedia... pub record to its title record for you. Thanks again for your submission, and we hope you'll continue contributing to the ISFDB. Flowers of War
I approved your submission Flowers of War, but you need to correct a few problems. Since you own the pub, you should be able to assign the price. If it's not in the pub, then the notes should say so. The cover scan you used is not among those permitted to the ISFDB. You have three choices: you can ask the website you used if they will allow ISFDB to use their cover scans, and if they will, then tell Ahasuerus that you have such permission. He will alter the software to show that permission. Alternatively (and really preferably), you can scan the cover yourself, limit the height of that scan to no more than 600 pixels, upload that scan, copy the scan location, and substitute that scan for the current scan. If neither of those is possible, than simply delete the existing scan and allow the submission without a scan. Another correction you need to make is the last content item is not "NONFICTION", but an "ESSAY". Most such content in novels, collections or anthologies will be essays. Nonfiction is usually used for entire pubs, while essay is used for non-fiction in otherwise fictional publications. Finally, the word "across" in the first content item's title should be capitalized. While I was taught not to capitalize prepositions in titles, the ISFDB standard limits non-capitalized words in titles to "and", "or", "the", "a", "an", "for", "of", "in", "on", "by", "at", "from", "with", and "to". You might find it useful to review the help screen for New Pubs that lays a lot of these mechanics out. Bob 18:45, 16 September 2019 (EDT)
