Welcome!

Hello, Whofan, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 12:51, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Miss Wildthyme and Friends Investigate

I've accepted Miss Wildthyme and Friends Investigate but added a "£" to the price. Also, I wonder if you're in a position to grant us permission to use that cover image? It's not on one of the sites we've been given permission to deep-link to yet. BLongley 12:55, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Also, The Shapre of Things looks incorrectly spelled - should it be "Shape" or "Shaper" maybe? BLongley 12:57, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming permission for cover links. By all means, add the previous titles - ISBNs are not necessary for us to include them, but if the publications have them we want them. BLongley 21:02, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Review of "Shooty Dog Thing"

I'm holding a submission in which you wish to change the title of the review of "Shooty Dog Thing" in this pub to the title of the pub itself. Is this actually a review of the book in which it is a content? Strange... Mhhutchins 14:46, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Please respond to this inquiry on this page. Click on the [edit] link to the right of the comment. This keeps all correspondence about one topic on a single page. Thanks. Mhhutchins 14:48, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi - sorry, I got the title/book reviewed element of the db the wrong way round. There is a review of the book 'Iris Wildthyme and the Celestial Omnibus' in the non-fiction book Shooty Dog Thing. Sorry for the confusion. Whofan 19:28, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, the review goes in Shooty Dog Thing, which I've entered for you. however, I couldn't figure out who wrote the review, so please add that. BLongley 19:42, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
It appears to have been straightened out, so I'll reject the original submission. Thanks. Mhhutchins 17:31, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that Whofan 15:33, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Iris: Abroad submission

Hi. A bad thing happened to your Iris: Abroad submission -- the server choked on the approval, and the data is sort of only half there. I am leaving it in this partial state in case there's anything Ahasuerus wants to look at. I will fix things up when he is done. --MartyD 12:19, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Ahasuerus fixed things up, providing an initial set of data from what he could find on the web. See this result, and make sure nothing got lost in the process. I ended up having to reject your lingering original submission so that it wouldn't duplicate anything. Sorry about the problems getting it through the system. --MartyD 13:18, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
That was better than my original submission. Thanks Whofan 16:06, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
I accepted your addition of "Hospitality" by Paul Magrs and then removed the version we already had. The only additional detail was that it was a Short Story rather than generic Shortfiction, so a title edit would have been better. Or just edit the existing title in the pub to give the length. A Romance in Twelve Parts

There are a few problems with the submission to add this book. Names should be entered normally: "Firstname Middlename Lastname". (You entered the editors and the artist as "Lastname, Firstname", but the contents authors were entered correctly.) Pub format for hardcover books should used the abbreviation "hc". (You entered it as "hardback".) You should give the currency in the price field. (It's given as "11.99" so it could be dollars, pounds, euros, Canadian dollars, etc.) I'm going to accept the submission and make the corrections for you. Here is a link to the help page for entering new publications. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 16:17, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

The record as corrected is here. I've added a link to the cover image on Amazon. If you have a copy of this book, please do a primary verification of the record. If not, please update the record, giving your source in the note field. This is an ISFDB standard. Mhhutchins 16:21, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
One last thing: you entered an ISBN-10 for the book. I'm pretty sure that almost all 2011 books contain the ISBN-13. I'll correct the record, and if that's wrong please let me know. (I've also changed the date to the Amazon date of 2011-05-31. If this is wrong, again, please let me know here on this talk page.) Mhhutchins 16:24, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, one more thing: you gave the length of "A Hundred Words from a Civil War" as "shortstory". At more than 35 pages, it appears to be at least a novelette. Have you done a word count of the stories, or is this an estimate? (Perhaps the text is large, and the story is less than 7500 words.) Thanks. Mhhutchins 16:31, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
I've notice one more error: you gave the author of "Nothing Lasts Forever" as "David N Smith & Violet Addison" which is entered into the database exactly as given. I'm assuming this is actually a collaborative story. When any work has more than one creator, you should enter each in their own field. This is done by clicking on the "Add Author" button under each Author entry field. I will correct this record (adding a period after the first author's middle initial, too.) Skaldenland

I'm holding the submission adding a record for this title for a few reasons. Research shows that the cover is credited to "James Mortimore". How is the novel credited on the book's title page? Also, does it have an ISBN? I was unable to find one listed on the publisher's website. I'm assuming the price is in pounds (you should enter the currency also) and that it's a hardcover book (it should be entered as "hc"). Also, do you have a date of publication other than the year? I'll hold the submission until you can respond to this message. Mhhutchins 16:39, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to accept the submission and ask that you make any changes if necessary to the corrections I'll have to make to add it to the database. Thanks. Mhhutchins 01:49, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Here's a link to the record. Mhhutchins 01:49, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
