Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

Secondary sources; notifying verifiers

Hi, and welcome. Thank you for the artist credits. A couple of minor things you wouldn't have known, to keep in mind for future submissions (and I hope you'll be making many more!):

  • For data from secondary sources (anything not in the book itself), we record the source in the publication's notes. This is so that someone with the book in hand can understand whether the particular piece of data is appropriate. Notes to the moderator are not preserved beyond the life of the submission -- they're just to help the moderator in processing it. So I took the information about the email with the artists and moved it into the publication notes.
  • For changes to publications that have a Primary (and perhaps Primary 2, Primary 3, etc.) verifier, our standard etiquette is basically "notify after the fact of additions, ask before submission of changes". See the links above for some more details. Recording an artist credit where none was present qualifies as an addition, so I have accepted the submissions and have left notes on the verifiers' talk pages.

Cover art credit for Beyond the Safe Zone

When making a significant change to a primary-verified record, you should first discuss it with the editor who verified record, before making the submission. In the case of this record, it's highly possible that the cover art credit isn't actually stated in the publication. You need to provide the source for your data in the record's Note field. It's important that all unstated data be sourced as well. I'll hold the submission until you've received a response from the primary verifier. Mhhutchins 21:15, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Cover art credit for Project Pendulum

I've accepted the submission adding cover art credit to this record, and added the source in the Note field. Source information should not be given in the Note to Moderator field. Anything entered into that field is temporary and doesn't become a permanent part of the record. Please click on the link to learn how that field is used. Thanks. Also, you should have notified the primary verifier first. And because you've given yourself as the source, you will need to do a primary verification of the record (in the Primary2 position). Mhhutchins 21:42, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Linking uploaded image files to the publication records.

Thanks for uploading this image to the ISFDB server. As the upload instructions explain:

Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) Go back to the publication record, click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu, and enter the URL you just copied into the "Image URL" field. Then submit for moderator approval.

So I'll be waiting for your submission to update this record in order to add a link to the cover image. Because you've done a primary verification of the record, you'll need to determine whether there are fields of the record which contain data stated in the publication and which data come from a secondary source. At the moment the source in the Note field states "Data from Locus1". You can remove that line if all the data is taken directly from the book itself. If it isn't you should note the secondary source. For example, if the cover artist is not credited in the publication, you should give the source for the credit in the Note field. Good. I see you've figured out how to link the image file to the pub record. When you get a chance please update the Note field of Up the Line, since most of it appears to be irrelevant when the record has been primary verified. Mhhutchins 19:40, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

I was going to leave the note field as is because the September 1988 printing states it is a "sixth" printing, just like the previous 1985 printing does. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Welshgriffin (talk • contribs) .
If you have a copy of the book, you should update the record's note so that it reflects the data that appears in the actual book. Leave the parts of the current note that provides data that is true but may not be stated in the book itself. Mhhutchins 05:08, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

The Silent Invaders

I'm holding the submission to add cover art credit to this record and amend the notes. Why did you remove the note that the cover artist isn't credited and that there is no visible signature? There are at least three ISFDB editors who have verified that the cover art is not credited. Does your copy of the book credit Punchatz? I wouldn't think so, because you provide a source for the credit, which otherwise would be unnecessary if the artwork was credited in the book.

Also, you credit the art to "Don Punchatz" when the artist's canonical name is "Don Ivan Punchatz". That is also the name given in the source you've linked to. It is important to follow the established ISFDB standards when editing publication records, especially those that have been primary verified. Should I proceed to accept the submission, but edit it again to change the artist credit and return the note about the art not being credited? Or would you rather cancel the submission and re-submit another that keeps the note and corrects the artist credit? Your call. Mhhutchins 06:13, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
