Welcome!

Hello, Wanderer, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! ~Bill, --Bluesman 15:39, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Welcome, again

Approved the three edits you submitted, and then made some minor changes. Added the $ to the first two prices, the third one was there. Changed the binding to 'tp' [trade paperback] for each. [This] help page goes through all the variations for the different fields. About halfway down is the one for bindings. At the moment there are only three in use for a book: hc, tp and pb. All three of the images linked to a site that we do NOT have explicit permission for direct linking. I replaced all three images with ones found on Amazon.com, a site we DO have permission to directly link. In each case the image was sharper, and since the only link between the three books was one artist, thought that important. Further down the same help page is a section "Image URL" that shows the sites we can link to. If there is an image on another site, you can always download it to your computer, then upload it to the database [use the "Upload Image" link on a publication's record page] in the same way you would e-mail a pic from your computer. There is a size limit on the file of 150KB, we don't want to have images of high enough resolution that they could be usable/pirated. One caution on using Amazon images. Their format puts every image in a 500x500 box. If uploaded as-is the image appears in the publication record with "wings", or all the "Look-Inside" arrows attached. To get rid of these and just have the image show, everything in the URL after the "xxxxL." needs to be erased, except for the file extension at the end [gif, jpg]. For example, the last image has a URL of http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51GF%2BFJ3oYL._SS500_.jpg . You can see the "L." near the end. Just erase the _SS500_. and keep the jpg. This can be done once you've copied the url into the Image field. If you have any problems, questions, just ask. Thanks for editing! ~Bill, --Bluesman 16:22, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
