Welcome!

Hello, Valis, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 14:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Lansdale's Captains Outrageous

Hello, Valis! Thank you very much for adding this fine publication. I don't know if you have noticed that there already is this title in the database, so I have merged the newly generated title with the already existing one. You may now want to primary verify this publication (given that you own it or have constant access to it - in other cases, where you only have temporary access, a Primary (Transient) verification would be right. Thank you again for contributing! Stonecreek 14:43, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

I have removed the deeplink to the Wikipedia cover image file from this record. This is strictly forbidden under Wikipedia rules. If you have a copy of the book, please do a primary verification (see the link in the Welcome section above). If you don't have a copy of the book, you must give the source for your data in the record's "Note" field. Mhhutchins 18:18, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Lansdale's Rumble Tumble

The submission adding this record to the database was accepted, but you failed to give the source for your data. If your data is from the actual book, you should state that in the "Note to Moderator" field. Otherwise you must give the secondary source for your data in the record's "Note" field. I will go through the effort to find a source which confirms your data and note that source in the record. (Don't expect other moderators to do this for you.) Please keep this in mind in future submissions.

ALso, I had to remove the link to the image file on Wikipedia, who strictly forbid the deeplinking of files from their server to another website. I will try to find one on one of the sites which have given us permission to link to their files (those sites are listed here). Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 18:01, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

I was able to confirm everything but the price, so you'll need to add the source for that to the record. I was also able to locate a cover image file and uploaded it to the ISFDB server, and then linked it to the record. Thanks. Mhhutchins 18:15, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
You should remove the sources I added to the Note field if you're verifying that the data is from the primary source (the book). Mhhutchins 22:32, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Star Trek: The New Voyages

I'm holding the submission to add a reprint of this title, because you don't mention the printing number. Is there a statement that gives the printing on the copyright page? Mhhutchins 01:42, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

No printing number is specified. --Valis 07:45, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
I'll accept the submission and ask you to update it to add that to the Note field. Also, so a Primary Verification of the record when you get a chance. Thanks. Mhhutchins 17:24, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Changing records having a Primary Verifier

Hi. When you want to change a publication record that has a primary verifier, it is ISFDB practice to notify the verifier of the changes. Any alteration of information that's there should be asked about and only made if the verifier agrees. For additions, it's usually ok to submit the change and to notify the verifier at the same time, especially if you're working from a copy of the book. Some verifiers will post more specific instructions about how they'd like to be notified, and for what, at the top of their talk pages.

The extra work and communication can be a little bit painful at times, but you'd be surprised how often it turns up alternate editions/printings.

With that as background, I have your addition of Peter Cross as cover artist on the 13th Pocket Books printing of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on hold. You didn't say in the submission where the information came from, so I am confirming with the primary verifier before accepting it. I'm pretty sure it will be fine. Thanks. --MartyD 13:33, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Don agreed, so I have accepted the submission. Thanks. --MartyD 22:52, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Foster's Star Trek Log One

Thanks for submitting an artist for this book. However, we do need a source for this information. You could have supplied that in the note to moderator field, or even better: in the publication's notes. I have put the submission on hold while waiting for an answer. Thanks, Stonecreek 14:16, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Ubik

I'm presuming you have (or have access to) a physical copy of Ubik, as you have been entering some details of that series' cover credits for Heidi North. The Note for this edition mentions a discrepancy in the page numbers between the Locus Index and OCLC. Could you take a look and clear up that small matter (but keep the record of the discrepancy in the Note)? Thanks. PeteYoung 04:45, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

The Stars My Destination

I've accepted your edit to add a cover artist to The Stars My Destination, but could you also mention this addition on the Primary Verifier's Talk page? Alvonruff is not around much these days, but I'm sure he'd appreciate your notification. Thanks. PeteYoung 04:54, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Miss Darkness: The Great Short Crime Fiction of Fredric Brown

Only contents that are known to be speculative fiction should be entered into the publication record. Please use this record as an example of how to enter books which include mixed genre contents into the ISFDB. If you wish, I could accept the submission, but you will have to remove the non-spec-fic titles from the publication record, and then you'll have to delete in separate submissions each non-spec-fic title. Or you can cancel the submission, and create a new record that includes only the spec-fic contents. If you haven't read the stories, then don't create content records at all. Even if there are records in the db for those titles. They may be in the db by mistake, and will eventually be deleted. Adding new publications to those titles only supports their claim to be in the db. In situations like this, it is best to ask on the [[ISFDB:Help desk] page before taking the time and effort to create such records. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 00:10, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

The Bloodline Feud

I changed the publisher for The Bloodline Feud from "Tor" to "Tor / Pan Macmillan UK" based on the ISBN and multiple Abebooks seller listings where the dealers are calling it a "Pan MacMillan, United Kingdom" or "Pan Macmillan Tor". If you get a chance, please double-check the publication and document what it states. --Marc Kupper|talk 22:51, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
