Welcome!

Hello, Tool, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 22:37, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Ford's "Out of Service"

I had to reject the submission to add a series number ("26149") to this record of the title. That field is used to give the order in which a title appears with a series of related stories. Without a series name, the number is useless, and I could not imagine a series that has at least 26,149 titles. If you can explain what you were trying to do with the submission, please respond to this message, here on this page. Click on the "[edit]" link to the right of this message, write your response in the box that opens (below this message), and then end your response with four tildes ~~~~) which will sign and date the message. Thanks. Mhhutchins 22:42, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Issue of "Rabbit Hole"

I'm holding the submission to add an issue of this newsletter which contained a piece of fiction by Harlan Ellison. Does the issue have a date, or issue number? Thanks. Mhhutchins 19:28, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Issue #9, Winter 1988. I entered that information in the submission. Tool 19:36, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Well...actually, you didn't. I'll accept the submission and ask you to update the record to add the issue number and date to the title field. Thanks. Mhhutchins 18:38, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Games, September-October 1980

I've accepted the submission to add this publication but have had to make a few changes.

  • Changed the title field from "Games" to "Games, September-October 1980". Magazine records must have the date in the title field or there will be too many identically titled records.
  • Changed the editor field from "Michael Donner" to "Editors of Games". This is not a speculative fiction magazine, so it must be entered using the standards for nongenre magazines.
  • Changed the year/date field from "1980" to "1980-09-00".
  • Changed the date field of the content record for "The Gamesman" from "1980-09-01" to "1980-09-00". We use the same date given in the record's year/date field. For a bimonthly publication like this one, we use just the first month, and no day unless it is explicitly given in the publication.

Your "Note to Moderator" is as follows:

I am looking hard and I don't see where to enter the actual issue number (Pub Series # doesn't mention magazines at all) or the issue date. The date is September/October 1980 and it's Volume 4, Number 5 (Issue 19).

This is not an appropriate place to ask for assistance if you need further information. Please post a message on the ISFDB:Help desk when you have a question or need help. Ask before you make the submission. :)

Magazines aren't entered into publication series, only books. That's why there's no mention of magazines on the Help page for publication series. As I said above, the issue dates of magazines are entered in the Title field, the volume numbering can be entered into the Note field. Once a publication record has been created, the editor record of a magazine is entered into a title series which generates a magazine grid. I'll do that for you. Thanks for contributing.
