Welcome!

Hello, Thaoworra, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:24, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Welcome Bryan, delighted to see you submitting edits here. I'm familiar with some of your work (and live in Thailand myself).

There are a few changes that need to be made to your edits before they are complete, but thank you for doing a good job with these. The best source for help in learning the ISFDB's conventions for adding publications is our New Pub page: everything you need is there. I've accepted the edits but they will need a little work, detailed below. The first thing to remember is that when adding a new publication it is split into two levels: 1) the Publication, which contains 2) The title/titles.

A History of the Cetacean American Diaspora:

  • For the title synopsis, keep it brief. The first sentence is probably enough in this instance.
  • Post-2007 publications contain 13-digit ISBNs (usually beginning 978-), however this ISBN is 10-digit. Is there another ISBN on the publication or at the Anchor & Plume website?
  • We can only deep-link images from websites that have agreed to let us do this, so I've had to remove the cover picture. If it's also on Amazon we can link from there; if not you can upload the image to the ISFDB server by clicking on 'Upload cover scan' and using the resulting URL for the image itself.
  • The price needs a currency. Dollars?

On the Other Side of the Eye:

  • This edit looks OK, but you can also add a price, cover and Contents.

No Such Phi:

  • The ISFDB has a necessary convention among editors in which a change to a verified publication is discussed with the verifier first before changes are made. In this case it seems such a small edit you are making (from shortfiction to poem, for a poem you yourself wrote) that it seems counter-productive to point out the above. In this case the verifying editor Cuinn has not made any edits for a number of years, so he may not be around anymore. I have left a message on his talk page, and if after a week we see no reply I will go ahead and approve the edit.

BARROW:

  • Is the title meant to be read in all caps? Unless that is specifically the case it should be spelled in U&lc.
  • The price needs a currency. Also, what is the binding for this publication?
  • Again, you can now add a cover, and the Contents.

The Kaiju and I:

  • Chapbook records are used for single pieces of fiction or a poem, but the resulting publication record still needs a title record within it. Getting a full chapbook record into the database is therefore done by adding (or importing from an existing record) the title of the story/poem being showcased. You will need to enter the title for the poem beneath 'Regular Titles' on the data entry page, and add POEM under Title Type.

I will keep an eye out for any further edits you make to these (but any moderating editor can also approve). If after a few weeks you have not seen this message and no changes have been made to these records, I will address them myself to the extent that I can. Please don't be afraid to ask questions on things you don't yet understand – in turn we understand it can be a steep learning curve when starting to edit here! You can reply by clicking Edit on the right of the title to this message, add a colon to indent your text and finish by typing four tildes ( ~ ) to add your name and timestamp. Thanks again.
