User talk:Temp Insecure
Welcome to the ISFDB! I have answered your question over on ISFDB:Help_desk, but I am copy-pasting it here in case you haven't seen it:
- As I wrote last month, "Migrating to HTTPS is certainly the right thing to do. There are some administrative issues that we need to resolve first, but it's definitely on the agenda. Unfortunately, there is no ETA at this time."
An HTTP ("insecure") connection means that the data that you send to the ISFDB server is not encrypted. A dedicated hacker who inserts himself between your computer and the ISFDB server can read the data that you submit, including your password. It can be done by hacking a router, cutting a cable, infiltrating your ISP, etc. With HTTPS, all of your data is encrypted, so even if it's intercepted, the hacker won't be able to read it.
For this and other reasons it's always advisable to use unique passwords for Web sites. That way if the password that you use at an HTTP site like the ISFDB is intercepted by a hacker, it won't affect your other, more important accounts which use HTTPS -- like you bank, credit cards, etc. Ahasuerus 19:34, 13 November 2018 (EST)
