Sphinx's Princess and Sphinx's Queen

Hi. I accepted your submission of Sphinx's Princess, but I had to make a minor change, and I have a question.

The change: This gotcha bites every new editor. The "Pub. Series" you see when adding a new novel is for publisher series, not title series. Examples of publisher series might be "Tor Fantasy" or "Penguin Classics". Only if you'd expect the series to change if the book were published by another publisher, is it a "Pub. Series". A title series is the universe or grouping of the stories. "Harry Potter", "Chicks in Chainmail", etc. The books would be part of these series no matter who published them. So "Helen of Sparta" is a title series. Unfortunately, you cannot enter Title Series information when you submit a new publication. You have to wait until the submission is accepted, then go back and edit the newly-recorded title to give it the series information. So I removed the "Helen of Sparta" #3 and #4 from the Pub. Series for this book and moved that information to the titles.

The question: Does the author credit in the books, on the title pages, use the "M."? Or is it simply "Esther Friesner"? The other books in that series do not use the "M.", and Amazon's Look Inside forPrincess and Queen suggest to me the "M." isn't used. We record the authorship as stated on the title page, then either using pseudonyms to link that version of the name to another or recording the full name in the "Legal Name" field. In this case, Esther Frieser is already linked to Esther M. Friesner. So all we'd have to do is record the actual credit as Esther Friesner, view Sphinx's Princess and Sphinx's Queen, and choose Make This Title a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work from the menu at the left, and record a new "parent" title of the same name but using "Esther M. Friesner" as the author. If you agree the credit is "Esther Friesner" and would like help fixing this up, let me know. You're welcome to try your hand at it -- you can't hurt anything.

I'm sorry about the mistake (and my sloppiness) - I guess I should read more help pages.
I admit, I found the book on amazon.co.uk, I don't actually own it. I hope, it's ok to enter a book based on information that is availabe online. Also, I think I made a mistake, assuming that the two books are part of the "Helen of Sparta" series. It seems you're right and the author is credited as "Ester Friesner".
I will be more thorough in the future. And yes, I would like to help fixing this up, so ... I just come back later, when the books are approved and try to edit them?

No problem. You can edit them. It is ok to enter information for books you don't have, but you should cite the source(s) in the Notes. For example, "Information from Amazon UK and Amazon Look Inside as of 2011-06-19". Moderators are here to help and will look over any changes you propose to make, so go right ahead and give it a try -- it's the best way to learn. If you need help, just ask. Okorafor's Who Fears Death

Instead of varianting the two title records, I merged them into one. It appears that the one with the question mark in its title was in error. If you have the paperback edition and if it is titled as Who Fears Death? on the book's title page, let me know and then I can make it into a variant. Thanks. Translations

You may have missed the recent changes in language support. While it's still OK to enter translations under the original title, we now prefer to enter translated pubs as new titles with the correct language, and after that's accepted it can be made a variant of the original title. There is a lot of rework to be done, and it's probably best to leave that until we improve "unmerge" functionality, but all new publications are better entered the new way. Jim Knopf und die Wilde 13

Thank you very much for adding this publication of the novel! If you look at the entry now, you'll recognize that the note is somehow detached from its source (= you). It would be better to add a note similar to the first edition & first printing of the previous part Jim Knopf und Lukas, der Lokomotivführer. In any case it would be most welcome if you added (and then verified) your edition & printing. For example there are some for Ende's Die unendliche Geschichte / The Neverending Story. Well, I changed the notes (best to add these kind of notes to the 'Notes to the Moderator' section) and added the edition that likely corresponds to yours. Any other bibliographical notes would be welcome, such as printing statements, illustrations etc. Stonecreek 10:00, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
