Welcome!

Hello, Steph-osborn, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Editing a verified record

I'm holding a submission which wishes to change the cover artist credit from "Darrell Osborne" to "Darrel Osborn" in this record. Do you have a copy of the actual book, and can you confirm that the artist is credited exactly as you wish to change the record? Also, ISFDB policy asks that any changes to a verified record be communicated with the primary verifier. Editors may have individual levels of notification posted on their talk pages. Thanks for contributing and welcome to the ISFDB. Mhhutchins 05:47, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

I just noticed the similarity in names. Are you the author of the book? If so, I guess you would be aware of who did the cover art, perhaps a relative. Mhhutchins 16:19, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I'm the author. My husband did the cover art. I can vouch for it, lol. ;) In fact the credit spelling should be changed for all my books: Burnout, The Y Factor, and The Cresperian Alliance, as well as any listing for the anthology containing my short The Bunker, said anthology being Dreams of Steam, ed. Kimberly Richardson. Cover art again Darrell Osborn. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Steph-osborn (talkcontribs) .
Thanks for the response. I'll accept the changes. Remember to end your comments with four tildes (~~~~) which will automatically sign and date them. Also use a colon (:) to indent your comments from the previous ones. It just helps to organize the page and makes it easier to read. Thanks again. Mhhutchins 17:12, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
I think I'm starting to get the hang of this, but am still a little confused about putting in new books. I gather that I have to put the book in and "verify" it, THEN I can make it part of a series?Steph 04:34, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
WRT questions listed on Dreams of Steam regarding print date: The Amazon print date is the correct date. The book is POD, with a small publisher, and evidently one of the printers put the date of a batch on the book. Hope this helps.Steph

Extraction Point!

Your submission adding this new publication was accepted, but there are a couple of problems which will need to be corrected.

  1. The acceptable entry for trade paperback format is "tp"
  2. Prices should indicate the currency. Use "$" for US dollars.
  3. A publication series, as entered on a publication record, is not the same as a title series, as recorded on a title record. For the differences see this help page. You'll have to remove the series which is entered in this record, and move it to this record.
  4. Do you know the date of publication (month and day, or month alone) of the book? That should be given in the date field if known.

Let me know here on your talk page if you need assistance on how to do these updates. Just click the [edit] link for this message, add your response (starting with a colon to indent it), sign it with four tildes (~~~~) and save the page. Thanks. Mhhutchins 05:52, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

AAAAAH! I FINALLY figured out how to get into this particular page to edit! It said I was logged in but I wasn't really.
Yes, I am the author in question, and the artist is my husband. I can vouch for the spelling of his name, lol. Thought I put the date in there, but maybe not. I'll go back and do that.
Ok I think I fixed the Extraction Point edit issues. Please double-check and make sure I did them correctly, and feel free to fix if I didn't. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Steph-osborn (talkcontribs) .
The pub record looks great. You'll now need to update the title record (here) and add the series name and number. (Click "Edit Title Data" under editing tools menu and fill in the field.) Thanks. Mhhutchins 17:15, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Ok I think I got that in there now. Steph 04:33, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Cresperian Saga

We have the third book in the series, but not the first two. Are the pub records missing, or have their title records not been added to the series? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins 17:21, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Ok the first book was by Travis S. Taylor and Darrell Bain and is called Human By Choice, which is in your database. The second book was by Darrell Bain and myself and is called The Y Factor, which you also have. I am having a lot of trouble figuring out your editing system so maybe it's better if I just tell you when something needs adding and y'all add it, lol. Sorry. Um, ok I get the tildes but not the colon. I'll reread and edit as needed. Edit - think I got it now. Steph 04:29, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
