Welcome!

Hello, Shirley49, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 13:06, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, but I had to reject your submisission to alter the entry. The reason was that you tried to insert different publishers in one step as Vols 1 + 2 J. J. Weber; vol 3 Otto Wigand; both of Leipzig. The way the database works that would have directly caused a new publisher named Vols 1 + 2 J. J. Weber; vol 3 Otto Wigand; both of Leipzig, which is not a meaningful name for a publisher. If you'd like to account for the three different volumes the best way would be to alter the existing record (then fitting the bibliographic data of the first volume) and then add the other two volumes accordingly.

Let me add that we don't add the city the publisher is or was based in the publisher's field of a given publication. This information may be added to the publisher.

Also, please rethink to change the year from 1848-00-00 to 0000-00-00 (unknown), which would reduce the information of publication significantly. After all, wikipedia says that the title was published 1847/48. Thank you anyway for contributing! Stonecreek 13:20, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply.
The problem is that the existing information in the database is simply wrong.  To repeat myself: the first printing of volumes one and two is not documented properly here, because the novel was first printed in numerous weekly issues of the Novellen-Zeitung during 1847, in an abridged form, which does not fully represent the author’s intentions. Compiling an accurate list of the issue dates and magazine page numbers from the online facsimile would be very time consuming and would not be directly relevant to the book I am trying to verify, which is the first full edition as intended by Wilhelm Meinhold.
Also the page numbers given in the database refer only to the reprints in the Gesammelte Schriften.  So the publication date of volume one in the database refers only to the first printing of 1847 and the page numbers only to the second printing of 1848, the publication date of volume two refers to both printings of 1847 and the page numbers only to the second printing, and the publication date and the page numbers of volume three both refer to the only printing, that of 1848.  The body of the text in the two reprints has been completely reset, in a single column rather than two, in better spaced type.
I do not think your solution addresses the real problem. I need to be able to verify the book I have, Volumes 5, 6 and 7 of the Gesammelte Schriften bound together, with the dates when it was actually printed and the actual page numbers, with an indication to show that volumes 5(1) and 6(2) have been printed before in an abridged form in a magazine.
Please can you think again and advise. Thanks, Shirley.
To enter the edition and printing you have, please go to the title and change it accordingly to Sidonia von Bork die Klosterhexe. Then just use the Add Publication to This Title option on the left tool bar and enter the data fitting your edition. It seems to me that 1848 was the year of publication of the full text as intended by Meinhold, so we would let remain this year as already stated for the title (this being the parent title for all other variant titles, including earlier publications and translations).
It would be possible, though, to enter the first abridged publication from 1847 as serial, analogue to magazine appearances of other novels, here an example, but for that at least the numbers of Novellen-Zeitung in which the novel were serialized should be known.
