e-books

Greetings, and welcome to the ISFDB. A couple of questions about the e-book editions of your novels: do they use the original Laser covers or was that just a result of cloning an existing record? On the first submission you kept the Laser printing statement but not on the second. Do the ebooks retain those from the originals? I have both submissions on hold temporarily. Accepted the two trade paperback submissions. Neither of those comes with an ISBN? ~Bill, --Bluesman 20:41, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

As you suspected, those come from cloning the page; they don't use the Laser maaterial. Neither of those trade paperbacks has an ISBN that I'm aware of.

ebook rather than e-book for binding

The standard is to enter ebook rather than e-book for the pub binding. Also, I have "But As A Soldier, For His Country" on a temporary hold as I get the opinion on others about a minor matter. Thanks.--swfritter 18:57, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Single story "collection" should be entered as chapterbook

But As A Soldier, For His Country has been changed so it uses the chapterbook convention. Adding a chapterbook uses the same process as adding a collection. Usually the title of the chapterbook will be the title of the chapterbook but you must also add the story to the pub contents just as you would with a collection.--swfritter 19:10, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Accepted the submission creating [Painting the Roses Red] but to make the Chapterbooks display properly you also need to add the story to the contents. I've done that for this one. It's a software 'quirk'. I also corrected Ms Sky's name, as I'm sure she doesn't need the second 'a'..... ;-) Cheers! ~Bill, --Bluesman 22:41, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Alien Murders changed to collection

Although it is a short one. Strictly voluntary with ebooks but I normally enter the format of the ebook being entered in the notes; or MultiFomat if that is appropriate. If there is a PDF version I use that as the preferred format because there is an actual page count. You will get different opinions about the page count to enter for other ebook types but I usually leave it blank; I just noticed that if you enter "0" then the page count does not show up on the screen. My ebooks are multiformat, including a PDF version. I'll list the PDF page count and add in the notes thaat it's also multigormat. Does that make sense? Sgoldin 20:07, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
I usually do something like this in the notes. According to industry standards the publisher is supposed to pay for a unique ISBN for each format. Since they are not legally required to do so, there is a lot of inconsistency in what the publishers actually do.--swfritter 13:31, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Images

Accepted the submission for [this] but we don't have permission to direct-link to the site for the image. For the sites we currently have permission to link to see [here]. At the bottom of the page is a sample 'permission' letter we use. For sites that refuse or there's no way to get permission, you can always upload an image to your computer and then upload it to the DB. That's what I did with the image for this chapterbook, also downsizing it [file size] as we try not to host images above 150kb. That way they can't be used to create a cover. I'll take a quick look at the other chapterbook with an image that was just added and probably do the same thing.
