Welcome!

Hello, Settdigger, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 15:11, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Your recent submissions

I've accepted the submissions adding new records to the database but have made changes based on the current ISFDB entry standards. You will find those standards in this field-by-field guide of this help page. Please take some time to look over that page and use it for any future submissions. It would also be good to look over the records for the publications you added to see the changes I made. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 15:14, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Conquistador of the Night Lands

Re this record: I changed the price field to indicate the decimals per ISFDB standards, and I removed the link to the cover image hosted by a non-permitting website. You have the option to upload the image file to the ISFDB server and then linking the record to it. Mhhutchins|talk 02:53, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Poems from the War

I changed this publication from a CHAPBOOK to a COLLECTION per ISFDB standards (which you'll find linked in the Welcome section above.) I also added the publication date given by Amazon, removed the cover image link to a non-permitting host, replacing it with a link to the image file on Amazon. Mhhutchins|talk 02:58, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Last Freedom

The following changes were made to [ this record]:

  • Removed the link to a cover image hosted by a non-permitting website, replaced it with the image on Amazon.com
  • Specified the publication date as 2015-02-02, based on the Amazon listing.
  • Changed the format/binding from "unknown" to "tp"

- Please take some time to look over this help page which is a field-by-field guide to entering and updating publication records on the ISFDB. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 03:07, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Colonel Stierlitz and City, Psychonaut covers

Hi. I accepted your addition of Colonel Sterlitz, but I changed the cover URL. We do not have permission to link to the robindunn.com site, so I found the image on Amazon. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for more details. I also noticed that the binding was left "unknown", and the information on Amazon suggests it is trade (oversized) paperback. So I switched it to that -- please change it if that's not correct. Thanks. --MartyD 03:08, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

There was the same problem with the cover for City, Psychonaut. This one doesn't exist yet on Amazon. If you'd like, you can download the cover image from the source you provided (http://robindunn.com/psychonaut.jpg) and upload it to our server (go to the publication record and use the "Upload Cover Scan" link to get the appropriate template; then change the notes about the source to indicate it came from the publisher's website), then edit the publication to use that uploaded image as the cover URL. It's a little complicated, so if you need some help, just ask. --MartyD 03:20, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Just in case you're not watching my talk page, I responded to you here. Let me know if you need help. --MartyD 23:35, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

2DEE cover and date question

Hi. I accepted 2DEE, but it had the same problem as above with the cover image link to a site for which we do not have permission. I replaced it with a downloaded and resized copy.

I have a question about the date. You gave 2017-00-00 and a primary verification for the paperback, but the author's site says that's coming out 2017-06-14, and Createspace likewise says it's coming soon (I do see sample chapters are available on Smashwords for the electronic version). Do you have an advance copy, or is it still to-be-published? Thanks. --MartyD 03:54, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

p.s. If you own www.robindunn.com, you could give us permission to link to that site. --MartyD 03:59, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi MartyD, certainly you have permission to link to it; yes, it is my site. Apologies for the date; you are correct it is coming out June 14. Cheers!

More of your recent submissions

1) I rejected the two updates for the Colonel Stierlitz book. The entries for publications list the items (NOVELs, SHORTFICTIONs, here: REVIEWs) that are published as part of the real thing. As the reviews were only published online, the right thing was to add them to the title entry, which I did here.

2) I accepted Debudaderrah, but had to remove the link to the cover image (same problem as above, it seems). The entry will have to be updated by you if you know the exact binding and have a valid link for the cover. (It's also meaningless to primary verify a book that is not published yet: I'll let it stand as it is for now, though). Thanks, Stonecreek 09:18, 8 October 2017 (EDT)

This isn't one of the stories I remember

Hello, I've rejected your submission as this book is way too far in the future to be entered in the db (there's a three months ahead time limit and this is for major publishers). We try to avoid to list titles that may become phantom. Thanks. Hauck 06:03, 25 March 2018 (EDT)

Arc 1.5 / Is the Future Friendly?

Hello,

Do you have any more details about this webzine? Where is the date and the title coming from (the only source you had added (the PDF) has a different title and number from what you submitted and no date). Thanks! Annie (talk) 09:23, 22 December 2022 (EST)

Hi, I realize now it was only half-published. They sent me this PDF but I can't find it anywhere else. It may have been a planned issue that was only partially completed. Thanks! Settdigger (talk)
I see. In this case we use 8888-00-00 as a date. I will approve and fix it later. In the meantime, I fixed If This Document Should Survive a bit - we follow house capitalization rules and a 8 inches tall book is always a tp and not a pb. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Annie (talk) 15:50, 3 January 2023 (EST)
I deleted the submission; should I resubmit it? Thanks-- Settdigger (talk) 22:22, 23 January 2023 (EST)

Older Brother

Hello. First of all, apologies for taking this long to getting to your submission. I have your submission on hold, as I fail to see - having read the story - that there are any spec fic elements that warrant inclusion. Can you clarify? Thanks! MagicUnk (talk) 14:11, 3 March 2023 (EST)

Conversely, the last time you could buy fountain pen ink from a vending machine was the 1950s. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/78436-ink-vending-machine/ The story is in a parallel universe: on the one hand, there are no landlords, only computers, on the other, the character is writing with fountain pen. Spec-fic doesn't always have to scream at you from the rooftops. Settdigger (talk)
