Author credit for "Walker"

When providing author credit for a published work, you should only state the name as it exactly appears in the publication. If you credit this piece as by "Rycke Foreman (as Richard M. Foreman)" that's exactly how it will appear in the database. I'm assuming that the piece was published as by "Richard M. Foreman". If you want "Rycke Foreman" to be the canonical author credit, we can make "Richard M. Foreman" a pseudonym, and then create a variant of the story's title record so that it will appear as by "Rycke Foreman". Just let me know which is author is canonical and which is pseudonym. Thanks. Crossroads cover artist credit

You give six artist cover credit for this magazine. If all six contributed to the cover, that's fine. If any of them were interior artists that should go into the contents section of the pub, not in the cover artist field. Thanks. MHHutchins 18:35, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Author data update

I rejected your submission updating the author data for Rycke Foreman, because there were a couple of formatting errors. In the Legal Name field, it should be formatted as "Lastname, firstname middlename". In the Birth Date field, it should be "YYYY-MM-DD". I've taken the information that you provided to update the record. Parlour Papers

The record for this magazine needs to have either a date or a number. This is placed in the title field. For example: "Parlour Papers, February 1994" or "Parlour Papers, Number 4" or "Parlour Papers, No. 9". This individualizes the record in the case where there are multiple issues of the magazine in the database. And again the author credit for Real King Fiction is wrong. If it was published as by "Rick Foreman", we can make that a pseudonym, and then create a variant so that it shows up on the Rycke Foreman summary page. Thanks. Dead of Night Newsletter

This needs a date or number in the title. Also the "Film Reviews" should be typed as ESSAY when entering contents. Any nonfiction piece would be typed as ESSAY if it is one of the contents of a larger work. The NONFICTION type is used only for a single publication which is either completely or the major portion of which is nonfiction. I'll change that content for you. Again, you've given three artists cover credit. Was the cover a collaboration among the three of them? I also noticed that you're zeroing out the dates for the pieces that you contributed. Zeros means that the date of first publication is unknown. If these are the first publications then leave the date field of the content entries blank and the system will date them the same as the magazine in which they appear. Journal of the Dark

This magazine needs a date or number in the title. Also, cover is credited to five artists. Is this correct? And the piece "Dressed to Kill - Vampire Fashion" should be ESSAY instead of NONFICTION. I'll correct that. Thanks. MHHutchins 18:58, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

69 Flavors of Paranoia

I'm sorry to tell you that I am going to reject this submission. The main reason is that it is for a webzine that does not appear to fit our Rules of Acquisition. Specifically Rule 15 says "Out - Web only publications such as webzines. The problem for us is that they are not durable; anything we index could change, be reorganized, edited, updated with new versions or revisions, and so on. In addition, the URLs are not likely to be durable. So for now web only publications are not accepted into the ISFDB". That may change in future, but for now this publication is out. If you want to discuss changing the rules, or making 69 Flavors of Paranoia an exception, the place to discuss that would be the Rules and standards discussions page. You are welcome to raise the topic there, if you like.

Even had 69 Flavors of Paranoia been IN, there would have been some problems with your submission. I mention these for your information in submitting future magazines and other publications to the ISFDB.

  1. Editorials should be submitted as type ESSAY, not as type EDITOR. Records of type EDITOR are created automatically when a new magazine is entered, and need be created manually only in rare cases to fix a malformed entry, usually from the early days of the software, or where a record has been deleted or altered incorrectly.
  2. The TAG field on a new publication should usually be left blank. The system auto-generates a unique alphanumeric lapel for the publication. If entered manually, this should be a an alphanumeric ID string, different from any such string currently in use. Title-tags that identify particular sorts of works (such as "Vampire") are entered from a title record after a publication has been created, ad are quite a different thing from publication tags. The use of the term "Tag" for both is unfortunate.
  3. The Image URL field should point to an actual image file, usually a jpg or png or gif file. It should not normally point to an html file. Also, the domain or site should be one that has granted hot-linking permission. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for the list of sites that have granted permission, and why permission is needed. See Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki for uploading images to the ISFDB directly instead.
