Welcome!
Hello, Robbycharters, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- ISFDB FAQ
- Help:Screen:EditPub#General contents - Warning and a note on how to update a publication's contents
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -DES Talk 15:08, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Pepe
Welcome, and thank you for your submission. There are some formatting issues with your submisison, but nothing overly hard to fix. I am mentioning them for your information on future submissions.
- You give the ISBN as "781921314919" this is incorrect, I assume a typo, as the publisher's site gives "9781921314919".
- You give the price as "US$4.95" We currently list US prices simply with a dollar sign, so "$4.95". See Help:Screen:EditPub#Price for more detail.
- You give the image URL as "http://www.readerseden.com/images/P/pepe-3d.jpg". However, we don't have permission to deep-link to readerseden.com. See ISFDB:Image linking permissions for the list of sites which we have permission to deep-link cover images to, and for the reasons we need such permission. Also, when possible, we prefer a flat image to a 3-d picture of a book. What I am going to do is to download a copy of a cover image from the readerseden.com site, and upload it here. See Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki for details on doing this yourself another time.
- I take it, by the way, that you created the cover image as well as writing the book yourself?
- If the book has a precise month of publication, that can be listed in the date (Year) field. For example, March 2009 would be entered as 2009-03-00
I hope this information is helpful. -DES Talk 15:31, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
I have approved and edited your submission. The result is here. Please take a look and make sure that everything is correct. Also, you might want to verify the record if everything is correct.
Again, thank you and welcome. -DES Talk 15:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Duplicates
You appear to have submitted the information on Pepe twice. I rejected the 2nd submisison, as a duplicate entry would serve no purpose. The first entry I accepted and edited, see above. Thank you. -DES Talk 15:56, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. I'm sorry for the duplicate submission. I might have made a minor change, such as taken the hyphon out of "e-book".
- If it makes a difference, perhaps the date should be changed from 2009-00-00 to 2009-02-00, as it was actually released in February.
- Otherwise, I'm quite happy with it. I'll verify it as soon as I'm sure if the above should be or has been changed.
- Are there any particular do-s and don't-s as to editing the author's bio?
- cheers

- Please do go ahead and verify the book. Please feel free to enter records on any other SF book you have handy. To avoid needless effort, check if we already have the book recorded first. See Help:Getting Started for more information on entering books. Feel free to verify any book you have a copy of once the db record of it is correct and complete.
- About an author bio, the main things to avoid are making the bio into a bibliography itself (that is what the database proper is for) or making it into an advertisement. Such rules as we have are included in our Biography Policy and our Biography Guidelines. The main point of those is that bios should be "neutral, factual, and have a professional tone". (By "neutral" is meant that bios should neither praise nor attack the subject.) Do please start any bio page with

- A couple of wiki editing points. Successive replies in a thread should be indented, by starting each paragraph with one or more colons. Posts should be signed with four tildes (~~~~). The software converts this into your UserID (or your custom signature if you have one set in your preferences) and a timestamp. You can see more on these and other wiki matters at Help:Wiki Conventions, Help:Editing, and Help:Editing FAQ.
- It is helpful. Thank you. Robbycharters 03:23, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
