Welcome!
Hello, Rgroller, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- FAQ
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
- Wiki Conventions - How things are usually done on this wiki.
- Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki
Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 08:01, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
The Book of Night
Hello, I've approved your submission for this anthology but made a few changes to conform to our standards: 1) added currency (i supposed USD), 2) uploaded the scan into our system as we're not allowed to deeplink to the specified site, 3) changed artist from "Jim Mars" to "Chris Mars" as per amazon look inside feature that shows the copyright page. The result is here. You can now become the primary verifier of this publication (if you own a copy) and think of entering its contents. Thanks for contributing. Hauck 08:14, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Quite similar remarks for Sha'Daa: Facets where I found artist and varianted editor, and Sha'Daa: Inked. Hauck 08:31, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Herve: Thank you. Quick question - The Book of Night is a book of poetry with a hundred poems. Is it appropriate to list ALL the poems in the content section or would that take up too much space? Please advise. V/R Rich rgroller 16:36, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Rgroller
- Alas, you should list ALL the poems ;-), there will be no problem of space. Technically you can skip the non spec-fic poems but I doubt that there are many of them. Hauck 17:08, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

"What Scares the Boogey Man?"
In your contents for this anthology, you listed one of the authors as "J.D. Fritz". To standardize the way names are presented, we *always* add a blank space between the initials, so I have changed the author to "J. D. Fritz". Chavey 02:54, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
"Sha'Daa: Inked"
I added the cover artist, from the Amazon look-inside, to your verified edition after approving it. Chavey 03:02, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
"Poets in Hell", by Chris & Janet Morris
I accepted your submission of the contents for this book (and thanks for the data entry!). I made two corrections: You typed "Shebat Jegion" for "Shebat Legion", and (again, for standardization), we *always* put the comma in a name like "Larry Atchley, Jr.", even if though the publisher didn't. Chavey 03:15, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for catching the typo. I originally typed in the comma, but then removed it since the publisher didn't. Now I will know better for the future.
- No problem, there are lots of little things like that in our standards, and it just takes a while to get used to them all. Chavey 02:54, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
Author update: Jeffrey Barnes
I accepted your proposed Author Update to Jeff Barnes, as "Jeffrey Barnes", but then had to correct the legal name to "Barnes, Jeffrey", because we always put the family name first in this format. Chavey 05:21, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Darrah: How do I connect the two entries for Jeff Barnes and Jeffrey Barnes. They are the same person and I was trying to fix it son there would be a single listing for his works. rgroller 15:18, 5 August 2016 (UTC)Rgroller
- I did that for you. What you normally do is to set "Jeffrey Barnes" to be a "Pseudonym" for "Jeff Barnes" ("Make/Remove a Pseudonym" Editing Tools option), then take the poem by Jeffrey Barnes and "Make This Title a Variant Title or Pseudonymous Work" for a new title, i.e. the same poem, but "by Jeff Barnes". This process is somewhat awkward, and error-prone, so it's better to hold off on doing that until you've worked with the database a bit longer. Which is why I did it for you this time. Thanks!
The Warrior's Edge
Hello, I've deleted this NONFICTION title as it falls outside the scope of the db (see here for our inclusion policy). I suppose that you're one of its authors, so the mention of this book may probably better be made here. Hauck 10:11, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
- The policy on non-fiction is: "Included: Works (both fiction and non-fiction) which are not related to speculative fiction, but were produced by authors who have otherwise published works either of or about speculative fiction over a certain threshold (see below)." One of the authors is Janet Morris, who is above the threshold. As such, it seems that this book should be included. Chavey 16:26, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification.
Iron Clad Press
In this book you added, you put the publisher as "XLIBRIS / Iron Clad Press" but I changed it to the other way around with Iron Clad first, because Iron Clad is an imprint of XLIBRIS. --Vasha 17:27, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Query: Goethe translations
Hi: can you tell me who the translator of the two Goethe poems in The Book of Night is? --Vasha (cazadora de tildes) 13:21, 17 July 2018 (EDT)
HWA Poetry Showcase Volume IV
I have submitted an edit to change the title of HWA Poetry Showcase Volume IV to "Poetry Showcase: Volume IV" as well as the 2 publications. Also, the Cover Art credit should be "Marge Simon" not "Rick Pickman" who did the layout and e-book conversion. Added missing content titles. This is easily confirmed with a glance at the copyright page. Thanks John Scifibones 16:35, 11 August 2021 (EDT)
