Welcome!

Hello, Ravonlocke, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!Hauck 16:35, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Leave me messages here about my additions. I'm not sure how to/if I can edit while waiting for approval? Ravonlocke 16:30, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke

Thanks for all that useful information. Ravonlocke 16:42, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke

The Silver Branch

Hello, I've approved your submission but made a few changes : 1) added month of publication as per your notes, 2) simplified publisher to Dell, 3) added # before catalog number (it's only the iSBN that is entered without #), 4) changed price to "$0.50", 5) changed publication series to "Laurel-Leaf library" as per your notes and deleted Pub series # (it's already in the catalog number field). The result is here. It will be interesting to indicate in the notes the source of the artist's credit. Thanks for contributing. Hauck 16:44, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Outcast

Hello, note that this book doesn't seem to contain any spec-fic elements (in case it must either deleted either martked as "non-genre"). Can you confirm? Hauck 16:50, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

I believe you are correct, it appears to be historical fiction. Ravonlocke 16:56, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke
Thanks for the info. Deleted. Hauck 17:03, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Life, The Unknown: The Enigma of Human Survival

I've approved your submission but I'm very reserved about this book (based on what I can see on the net), we do not list all NONFICTION titles for relatively minor authors except when the're about speculative fiction. Hauck 16:55, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

That's fair. If the topic doesn't fit the site, I'm okay with it being rejected. That said, the book does delve into cryogenics and cryonics. I am new to this site, and am cataloging books for a scifi/fantasy library, but there are some random things in the boxes I'm going through. Ravonlocke 16:59, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke
As there are other like this one for this author, it'll stay. Hauck 17:11, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

The Lost Continent

I've rejected your submission, your book is very likely this one, you just have to add data and verify it. Hauck 17:01, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Okay, I wasn't sure about that one, as it has a completely different number of pages listed. And the author name hyphenated. Ravonlocke 17:02, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke
Interesting. If there's no hyphen, I will have to make some changes. Can you confirm this fact for the title page (not the cover)? Thanks. Hauck 17:05, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Title page says: The Lost Continent C.J. Cutlifffe Hyne Introduction by Lin Carter Ravonlocke 17:09, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke
Thanks. Hauck 17:39, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Pub Series #

Hello, I've approved your submission for this pub but deleted the Pub Series #. This field is generally used when there's a "continuous" numbering like the Laser Books, not to enter a part of the ISBN (like here). Such data is more akin to a Catalog# like for Ace Books. Hauck 18:15, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

The Ring of Allaire

Hello, you entered this pub that, at first looks a lot like that one (except for the price). Can you clear the matter with the PV of the latter (perhaps that you own a canadian printing). Thanks. Hauck 18:18, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Not a Canadian, the cover of the one I have in hand lists the price as $2.75. I should have just edited that one? Ravonlocke 18:25, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke
No, no, you were correct. There's probably a problem with this pub. I'm going to contact the PV, done here. Hauck 18:37, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
No hard evidence was found. I've modified the notes of the other "second" printing. Hauck 15:12, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Double Phoenix

Lin Carter was listed as the Editor for the book, but nowhere on the book does it list her as an editor, only as "Introductions by Lin Carter."

Ravonlocke 21:38, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke

I'm going to have to reject this edit. There are several issues here. While you are correct that Carter is not credited as editor in the book, he is, in fact the editor of the anthology. The entry in Reginald1 makes it clear that the anthology was anonymously edited, with Carter being the actual editor. You changed the editor to Cooper and Green. They are clearly credited as authors, not as co-editors. Since we use the name of the editor for anthologies, it isn't appropriate to list them as such. Even had your edit been appropriate, it affected only the publication record of the book, leaving the title record unchanged. This would have created a mismatch between those two records which would need further edits to correct. Additionally, if we change the title record we'll also need to change the publication record for the other printing of this book. You are correct in respect that the records are incorrectly credited. However, the way this should be fixed is that the editor should be listed as "uncredited". We would first have to change the title record and the two publication records showing the editor as uncredited. The next step would be to make the altered title record into a variant of a new title record showing Carter as the editor. We would also add appropriate notes indicating that Reginald verifies the editor. The last issue with your edit is that you should have notified those editors that had verified the publication before submitting this edit (see this help page). While you did leave this note on your own talk page, the usual practice is to leave the note on the talk pages of those who have verified the publication. Don't worry if you hadn't seen that policy before. You just need to keep it in mind going forward. I've left notes on the pages for the other verifiers of both the US and Canadian printings proposing the changes that I outlined above. I'll go ahead and make the changes after I get their agreement. Thanks. --Ron ~ RtraceTalk 13:09, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for all that. Ravonlocke 20:11, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke

Time Tunnel

There are two separate titles, both by Leinster. One is for a novelization of the TV series. You're trying to enter a pub under the wrong title. The edition you have is already [here]. --~ Bill, Bluesman 20:23, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, I could not find that edition. Ravonlocke 20:23, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Ravonlocke
