Welcome!

Hello, Pricez, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 00:15, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Mark Robson's Dragon Orb series

I'm holding the submissions adding four new pubs from this series into the database, pending the results of a few questions.

  1. All of these have only the ISBN-10. By 2008 most major publishers were using the ISBN-13. Do you have copies of these books so that we can determine which ISBN is actually printed in the books?
  2. You typed these as "paperbacks". If they are mass-market size paperbacks (18 cm tall or smaller) they should be entered as "pb". If they are trade size paperbacks (19 cm or taller), they should be entered as "tp".
  3. You give the price as "6.99". Is this in US dollars? If so it should be entered as "$6.99".
  4. The submissions place these into a publication series titled "Dragon Orb". This field is designated for series which are packaged as a marketing tool by the publisher without them necessarily having content in common. For example, the Ace SF Specials or the Bantam Special Editions. If the books have related content, such as Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern or Frank Herbert's Dune books, then the titles would be placed into a fiction/title series. (Title records are placed into these series, not the publication records.)

This may be "too much information" for a new editor to absorb, but it will come to you in time if you continue to submit to the database. Please see the links in the Welcome section above, which will lead to pages with the ISFDB standards on entering publications. Thanks and welcome. Mhhutchins 00:32, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to accept the submissions and make the changes as noted above. I've learned these are the UK editions so I'm assuming the price is in UK pounds. Mhhutchins 04:49, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
The following changes were made in all four publication records:
  1. Removed the series title from the pub title (e.g. "Dragon Orb: Firestorm" was changed to "Firestorm")
  2. Changed dates to those given on Amazon.co.uk
  3. Changed the publisher name to "Simon & Schuster Children's"
  4. Added page numbers from OCLC records
  5. Changed "Paperback" to "tp" based on the OCLC records indicating a height of 20 cm
  6. Changed the ISBN-10 to ISBN-13 based on the OCLC records
  7. Placed the British pound sign before the price
  8. Linked cover images on Amazon.co.uk
  9. Removed the publication series "Dragon Orb" and placed all titles into the title series "Dragon Orb".
Please look over each record to see if it matches your book, and if so, please verify the record. Thanks. Mhhutchins 05:09, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
